A Reasonable Spirit Nerf

I'm just going to do this because Spirit does need to be nerfed in some capacity to be more in line with other Killers. But, I think there's a couple of creative (one not-so-creative) nerfs I can give her that could be at least somewhat agreeable.

Power: Yamaoka's Haunting

  • Nerf: Flashlights, Firecrackers and Flash Grenades now have an effect on The Spirit's invisibility during a Phase Walk.
    • Whenever The Spirit starts to initiate or is active in a Phase Walk, or in their wiping animation after lunging from Phase Walk, being exposed to 2 seconds of a Flashlight in total will cause The Spirit's body to be given a special "Lightburn" effect.
    • Whenever same occurs against a Flash Grenade or Firecracker, The Spirit's body will be given the Lightburn effect immediately.
    • This version of Lightburn prevents The Spirit from becoming invisible during a Phase Walk for 60 seconds.
    • To compensate, this effect does not stack or reset, and the effect has a cooldown of 20 seconds before it can be applied again.

Add-Ons

  • Nerf: Mother-Daughter Ring speed boost increase is reduced to 50% (from 70%).

What this ability to give her a "Lightburn" does will make it so that The Spirit can be more predictable to Survivors, while also needing the Survivor's input in actually exposing her ethereal form. This is not a permanent "Lightburn" effect, however, it is one that I think would make Survivor-Killer interactions against her far more engaging and interesting and would be something that would make her more tolerable, even for Solo Queue.

The 60 seconds of a Survivor knowing where you are during "Lightburn" will allow them to properly interact with and predict what you are doing as Spirit. This new level of engagement means that you will need to be a lot more crafty with The Spirit than ever before!

Also, Mother-Daughter Ring is absolute bollocks currently.

So if there's a single Flashlight in the game, it's possible that every 20 seconds, Spirit can be effectively neutered and essentially forced to be a harmless 4.4m/s M1 Killer for 60 seconds. No thanks, we've got Trickster already.

This nerf is neither creative nor reasonable, anything that takes the guesswork away will gut her, even if it's temporary. 60 seconds is a long time in this game, especially at high-level play.

Just make her deaf during phase walk or add substantial wind noise/ghost noise and muffle the in game survivor sounds. That would be a decent place to start. I had never really played with her and thought people were exaggerating with how clearly you can hear the position of survivors during phase and I'm a bit deaf myself.

I also think it should be more clear that she is phasing. More animated or jittery. There is no mind game because many pallets/loops/windows are basically unsafe as they are.

Spirit nerf: bite the bullet with a medkit or self care.

How is a perk that requires you to be injured a nerf? She can hear healthy survivors easily.

It’s a partial joke... eliminating sound completely during a phase with the use of perks aka countering=nerf.

    • "This version of Lightburn prevents The Spirit from becoming invisible during a Phase Walk for 60 seconds."

Two questions: [1] Lightborn will counter this? [2] Why 60 seconds? Purple flashlight swf? Come on dude.

    No.

Dude, she's a 4.4 killer completely reliant on her power to get hits. There's a reason her recovery is a generous 15 seconds with no fatigue.

Depriving her of her power for 60, hell even 30 seconds is BS. Lightburn is a mechanic that can *burn* for all I care. Let it die.

Let me clarify for those who don't understand; she's not going to be a harmless 4.4m/s M1 Killer like you're all suggesting.

This "Lightburn"-like effect only affects her visibility and nothing more. Spirit can still Phase Walk, but unlike before where she's invisible to a Survivor, if they actually get her, she will be visible for any Phase Walks she performs for 60 seconds, with an invincibility period of 20 more seconds. This means she can still move fast and do her things, but her being visible now makes her more predictable.

Also, not everyone is going to either be prepared or know when she Phase Walks. See, the only stipulation is that this occurs when she's performing the ability. Not before, not after. This means that in the right hands, Spirits can still juke Survivors and find ways to counteract this new effect.

    Lightborn will NOT counter it.

60 seconds is because otherwise this idea would be useless and Spirit would still be a little too powerful. As for the flashlights, there's things you need to consider:

    • Spirit isn't going to be in every match in the game. You won't know it's a Spirit unless you're stream sniping someone. You could still go in a trial completely unprepared for the Power and its weakness.
    • This only activates once she uses her power, and the light hits her. So if there's actually some sort of team that tries to take advantage of it, you can always, again, find ways around it as Spirit. Maybe you go hide, maybe you fake phasing, maybe you do anything but sit in front of the Survivor trying to do Spirit things.

Also, you know what? Fine. Some add-ons will now reduce the total duration of the "Lightburn" effect that Spirit is inflicted. Not saying which, so come up with whichever add-on of hers fits with it.

thee has to be a tremendous add-on that reduces 40 seconds

Be careful about having her purported "counter" being an item. Plus, with how fast spirit moves, good luck getting two seconds of the flashlight beam on her.

Otherwise, I kind of like your idea, being that if you can "detect" her (which addresses the issue that survivors don't have much agency when it comes to her phasing), then you can force her out of invisibility (much like how dealing damage to Sombra forces her out of her stealth), but flashlights are not the best conduit for this, and 60 seconds seems really harsh. I would say, good concept, but maybe workshop it a little bit. The ideal nerf is still going to be one to her ability to track precisely while phasing, but a new direction is sure to be appreciated.

Lightburn mechanic is horrible (as seen with wraith).

It requires you to have a flashlight (spirits would just dodge lobbys with lots of flashlights) and it turns into a "i wish i had a flashlight" and "i bully the f out of the killer cuz i have a flashlight i.e wraith).

Not healthy for either side imo.

The two nerfs spirit needs (after they also adjusted killer hitbox to be the same as survivor):

-Rework Addons: Change the Cooldown Reduction / Movespeed ones to "applys blind on a hit out of spirit walk" something less oppressive

-Survivors can see grass/corn yamaoka grass move when spirit touches em while in "spirit walk".

This would add counterplay (paying attention to grass/corn) and bring the overall Powerlevel between Base Power Spirit and full tryhard addons closer together.
