Map (item) and totems

Very noob question here: I recently started using the map item, particularly for totem cleansing.
In some opportunities, the map shows me no totems even if I'm standing next to it or if there's just a wall between it and me.
So: how does the maps works with totems spotting? Does it show every single one in range? Doesn't show the closest ones or something like that?

what type of map, rainbow map shows everything and i think green you need an addon

Both of them, pink map and the green map with the add-on that shows you killer belongings.

If you actually are using rainbow (pink) map or the add-on that shows killer belongings this sounds like a bug.
you can report bugs here, if possible with screenshots or a small clip..
