Can you make Mettle of Man more interesting?

Reduce the user's repair speed by a large amount but in exchange buff his self healing speed by an also decent amount, probably through some sort of token system. Decrease the amount of hits required for the shield from 3 to 2 and make it infinite use. You could even make it so the shield only activates when it's a protection hit.


Now you have a challenge perk that presents you with a unique playstyle. Rather than farming carried survivors for a 1 time use gimmick it's something that's more focused towards actual altruism and rewarding that play.

It doesn't give you an innate advantage. It's not necessarily supposed be a better playstyle than efficiently working on gens while trusting the chased survivor to buy time in a chase. The point is to offer something different.

A different method than buff that runs at all times could be only a temporary but massive boost to self healing speed upon taking a protection hit. If the killer chooses to ignore this rescue ranger then he goes off to self care stupidly quick and comes back in for another body block, but if he ends up chased himself then it takes pressure off the chased person just like he wanted to begin with.

This could be useful if it's necessary to draw away the killers attention from someone who is getting tunneled.

And it's actually balanced for SWF as it'd be suicide to run a 4 man squad with everyone getting huge repair speed debuffs.

There's been talk for awhile about giving people more objectives to work for and I think this would add to that. Gen Jockeys, Totem Takers, and now an optimized Rescue Ranger. More content than just everyone holding M1 on a generator.


Ideas can get even more advanced. You start with like a base 33% increased self healing speed upon taking a protection hit along with a permanent 33% decreased repair speed. Every unique survivor you take a protection hit for grants a token that increases that self heal buff by an additional 33%.

If normal protection hits are too easy with blocking carried survivors then you can code it to only work for survivors who are in the injured state.
