All character progress lost

I started the game and got a message that it could not sync (or something like this). I pressed ok and the game started nonetheless. I saw a tutorial screen ,clicked it away and went to survivors. I saw that all my progress is lost. Every survivor is level 1, all skins gone etc. I then started the game anew since I thought it was a syncing issue but the result was the same. I started the game and my PC serveral times, but still all character progress is gone.
