Post-Game Censorship...overbearing
So, post-game, I am trying to tell a survivor that the hatch is the only way out with an active reverse trap...only to find out that "ONLY WAY" is censored? What the actual eff?

I typed "Lol ty man" to a Bubba who gave me hatch and it censored "man"... 😶

For a game that features no in game chat, there's an insane suppression of speech found in this games censorship. This game is not for children. There shouldn't be any censorship at all. It's a Canadian company, so expecting freedom of speech would offend their sensibilities.
It's also clearly evident if you say anything about the mod team. They tend to over react and chalk out ambiguous rules as the reasons for putting people in figurative jail.

I don't say anything about moderation but if I kept track of all the words I've used in chat that seemed to be censored on an utterly random basis I'd have several pages' worth. Some examples of things that I think I remember as having been censored (but not censored at other times): kill, tricky, teabag, haystack, games, etc.
I understand blocking racial, sexual, ethnic or religious slurs. I also understand blocking typically offensive words that are commonly used to insult people, and words that refer to taking of one's life. But as mentioned, this isn't a kids' game. This should be about as far from a kids' game as anything that's been released since, like, Manhunt or something. Yet it has the most sensitive, overly cautious, G-rated and overall inconsistent chat filter I've ever seen. I almost never use it to scold anybody - almost always to have a good-natured laugh or compliment somebody - so I find it amazing how frequently it's censoring the words that I use.

maybe they should implement a community panel to rule on that...since they are obviously incapable of making sane judgement calls on it.

I'm sorry but bhvr only likes femboys not men.

They really need to fix the censorship coding.

It’s complete bananas and needs serious tweaking.

I wouldn't know I'm on console

I kid you not, I have run into the censorship in this game so many times during just ordinary conversations where the words used bare no ill-meaning whatsoever, yet they are censored. BHVR expects people to simply say "GG" and get on to the next game, but if you dare to stick around for an actual conversation, we just cannot have that, now do we.
jokes aside, I am pretty damn disgusted with the censorship in the game.

It’s the worst chat filter I’ve ever seen. It censors completely innocuous words and allows offensive stuff.
I don’t understand why they don’t just use it to block slurs, and insults like the C bomb, or the F word, and then leave it off for anything else. Maybe block certain strings of words like “#########” or whatever. But why the ######### would a chat filter censor my use of the word “you” in a totally inoffensive sentence, or even in-game stuff like Hawkins or Yun-Jin? It’s totally counterproductive.

Why bother typing it in end game chat when chances are they won't see it. Many players don't even have it open due to the toxicity.

There is not a single soul that supports this filter, and yet they actively refuse to remove it. Why? Just why, bhvr?
4 -
Wrong. A lot of people (myself included) would rather have a slightly overbearing filter than see the usual disgusting drivel in the chat, and have said so repeatedly.

So you are fine with the word "you" being censored? Seriously? Interesting.

Well, if people were to give the devs feedback on words that are being censored, but shouldn't, they could actually improve the filter. Instead, they open threads on General Discussions to complain to each other that the devs don't do anything.
Still, I'll take the occasional odd censoring over racists, homophobes, and others of their ilk spewing their garbage in the chat.

I've seen complaints about censoring words "you", "tea", "facecamp" etc. countless times on the forums. I think there will be a full dictionary of "ridiculously censored words" out there. If that is not enough of feedback - I don't know what is.
Btw, there is a report button in the game which can allegedly counter racism and homophoby in chat. I guess by introducing this filter having no equals in ridiculousness they just confirmed that button does absolutely nothing.

I've seen the complaints as well. Here, in General Discussions, which is not the place for feedback.
I'm assuming they implemented the filter to take some pressure off the mods, who have to deal with thousands of reports per day.

just censor slurs jfc

Actually the best solution, would be to allow users to set their own word filters...if they find something offensive, they add the word or phrase to their own filter. Let us be the adults that this game's rating suggests that we be, and manage our own level of censorship, if any.

I was trying to give a killer some advice and to watch someone on YouTube. YouTube was censored.
3 -
Just the other day I was trying to explain to a killer how many times I was getting lerys and hawkins and the game kept censuring hawkins.
1 -
that's a really good idea, actually. warframe has a system like that as well i believe
2 -
To be fair I opened a thread about the filter a while ago and mentioned some words that are censured and shouldnt (ex: hawkins, adam, yun jin) and all I got were some people saying that those words are only censured because supposedly I swear a lot, which is not true at all.
People have given feedback, it just doesn't seem to be a priority right now which is understandable.

I seriously had a newer player (a killer) that wanted to report a bug he/she recorded. I was on survivor and the only non-console player besides the killer. Post game we had a decent talk about the bug (literally have words like "rock" getting censored) then I almost died laughing when I told him/her to edit the game he/she recorded down to the bug he/she was purposefully replicating and email to bhvr bug reporting. They literally censored the word email. Had to add the other on steam to actually assist him/her whatever. They need to turn this censorship nonsense off and just let people enable/disable post game chat.
2 -
You can simply turn off chat. Let the rest of the community speak freely.

People did do that. They did that for months. People post in general discussion about it still because they never did anything about it. Its also plainly obvious.
