Can we PLEASE have some more female killers? [RANT]
Right now, there are 27 Survivors and 25 Killers.
Out of the Survivors, 13 are male, and 14 are female. Fair enough.
When it comes to the Killers, 16 are male, and only 6 are female. (I'm not counting Demogorgon since it has no gender, neither Legion nor Twins since they are multiple people with a 1:1 gender ratio.)
The last three Killers have been male. Then we got The Twins, technically a duo of both. Before that, we got 5 male Killers (+ the Demogorgon) in a row.
There are nearly 3 times as many male Killers as there are female ones. I'm not saying it needs to be completely even absolutely all the time, but 16:6 is a HUGE difference. Is it really that difficult for a professional game dev team to design a female character without making her a pretty little murder victim? Are all the Killers gonna keep being some tall (usually) white guy with a mediocre power and a boring backstory? If I wanted to watch women get brutally killed by men, I'd just turn on the news.
Seriously. If the next chapter turns out to be another male Killer + female Survivor duo, I'm gonna be both disappointed and unsurprised.
EDIT:
This thread turned into a mess really quickly. I clearly underestimated the amount of misogynistic gamer boys on these forums. Having to defend myself against a small army of narrow-minded males is getting really exhausting, so I'm just not going to. I will no longer be reading or responding to any comments on this post.
Thank you for understanding <3

But both Charlotte, the main muscle of the twins, and a couple of the Legion characters are female. Why didn’t you count those?
7 -
i consider twins to be a female character. I mean victor is just a power. He isn't even customisable.
22 -
Why are you so angry about this?
21 -
I want gender bender skins for original killers and I don't understand why they don't exist at this point.
1 -
What a shame people can't agree we have a considerably lower number of female killers...
...good thing it's not something to agree on, because it's a fact!
DbD needs more female killers.
10 -
Agreed, need more female killers and male survivors (next survivor will be female most likely).
3 -
What are you talking about? Nobody said the OP was wrong about the imbalance in gender between killers. I, and seemingly others don't understand why it matters. Certainly not to the extent it made OP angry.
9 -
Statistically, male killers IRL outnumber the female killers in any category from 3:1 to 20:1. I wouldn't mind more diversity but I would argue that the Killers show a somewhat accurate representation of how likely each gender is to commit murders/tragedies. Not to say that women can't do it, but on average they do much less of it.
6 -
I'm still hugely disapointed by the All-Kill chapter in that regard. I think it would have been way cooler to have the killer be a crazed K-Pop starlet instead of the sad joker wannabe we got.

If you want more female killers, that's fine, but don't treat it as some crime. All that will do is make people angry and inevitably get this thread closed because guess what- We aren't allowed to talk politics on this part of the forum. It's like your screaming for attention.
7 -
Yeah. That's probably why i don't play survivor much, and when i do it's usually a licensed character.
Because if most of the appeal of playing survivor is customisation, and only most of the females get new store items then i don't feel like i have much room for expression as a male.
3 -
I don't know why people keep bringing up politics in response to what is ostensibly a matter of mathematics, but you're completely right, OP, we need more female killers.
6 -
out of 29 killers we have now (counting each legion members and victor and charlotte)
9 are female, 1 is a puppy, 19 are male
Out of the licenced kilers 7 are male, 1 is doggo and only 1 is female
So original 12 are male and 8 are female
Not a perfect 50/50 but it's a lot closer. So yeah blame the early horror film/game industry for this one.
Not BHVR's fault most of the slashers in the genre were male
12 -
Because, as evident by all the LGBT threads made before, this kind of talk is for some reason a huge point of contention. I may be wrong, but I feel like this is inevitably going to end up with people just slinging insults at eachother, and then probably closed.
The OP was needlessly aggressive about the topic, which just makes it worse.
4 -
Even if you count the Legion and Charlotte, there are 15 male and 7 female Killers, which is still a huge ratio.
0 -
I feel the issue kind of is a lot of lisenced killers are male. Myers, Nemesis, Pinhead, Bubba like what are you gonna do genderswap them? Once you omit lisences its 9/6(Im counting Twins. The main character is female. Its like saying billy isnt male because his saw isnt any gender.) still probably need more female killers to even it out but as for the killers BHVR had control over their gender its 3:2 and actually if you dont count the OG 3 they are even at 1:1.
3 -
As far as I know, people IRL can't teleport or use various magic powers either. I don't play DBD for the real-world realism.
5 -
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I haven't mentioned anything about politics.
3 -
I mean yea we do need more Female Killers
1 -
I elaborated on this further, but I'm comparing your posts to posts about LGBT+ characters that have been on the Forum before. Most of them inevitably ended up closed because this forum just can't handle it, for some reason. It's a major point of contention and somebody always brings politics in. I shouldn't have insinuated that you brought them up, that was a panic. At the same time, you shouldn't insinuate BHVR are sexist, which you definitely did with the sentence
"Is it really that difficult for a professional game dev team to design a female character without making her a pretty little murder victim?"
Like I said, if you want more female killers, that's fine. I agree. But blaming BHVR for this isn't going to improve anything. Most of their original female characters are much more than just a pretty face, imo.
2 -
if we ignore licensed characters and mixed gendered or no gender characters that wold leave us with this;
9 male killers
5 female killers
we could even leave out hillbilly since he especially is based off leatherface. making it 8 male killers.
we also could just count Charlotte as a female killer since she is the main killer and Victor is very vulnerable if left alone. so it makes sense. making it 6 female killers.
1 -
IDK man, have you heard of I Can't Believe It's Not Butter? IMO one of the greatest tricks ever pulled off.
1 -
When you just look at the original characters BHVR have made, i believe the ratio is actually 12:8 which is alot better.
Males are typically seen to be a more suited slasher killer, and the licensed killers werent BHVRs creations.
2 -
I want a Serial Mom chapter.
5 -
A quick reminder, please remember to keep comments civil and respectful, and a reminder that no one's identity is political, and there is nothing political about asking for representation.
11 -
I suppose, but there are still quite a lot of female slashers they could've added. I also wish more movies, especially horror movies, had female villains, but that's another issue in itself.
3 -
Does it really matter though? Sure it is cool to have diversity, but is it really such an issue to make it a big deal?
2 -
Is one forum thread really such a big deal though?
we have plenty of threads where people are crying about optional cosmetics being linked. that is unnecessarily bloated..
2 -
I don't know what gender or race you are, but it's pretty boring to have barely any representation. It may not be a big deal to you, but I find that an important part of my experience with various forms of media is being able to at least somewhat relate to the characters. The majority of my friends who play DBD feel the same way. BHVR has been better than most companies at creating ethically diverse characters, but sadly haven't done the same thing when it comes to gender.

Seeing as I was censored, I shall shorten my post I would like more female killers, mom killers and gender killers and something from rabid grannies.
0 -
You were likely "censored" because you were making inappropriate sexualising comments about women lmao
4 -
Then so should behavior for their violence, there overly revealing outfits, the spirits bandages. I was simply being honest and accepting and even above and beyond with a genderless character like Slender Person. I MEAN seriously I wasn't even over the top in the terms of language or directing it at anyone. But I'll be sure to CURB my freedom of speech, even if it was demeaning it wasn't in a bad sense, most women gamers I know want to look nice, nothing I said was like Oh! Give me a "Micro Bikini" nothing is wrong with wanting to look Appealing or Cool Or even Handsome Beautiful or "****" the dreaded word. I WAS within the right to say it based on their rules to which I read and tried to make sure I understood. A mod I believe washu blocked post someone made because he assumed I was being insulted I didn't even read anything that could have been insulting to me.
If Washu wants to reach out to me and answer my first time I tried to ask for clarification of why that 1 post was closed I would like it because I don't know to what rules the mods have to follow now when moderation is being done. I AM autistic and trying to simply follow the darn rules and I seem like I am not getting a proper answer.

Alright, now, deduce the licensed killers, as the devs had no influence there and there have been little to no female characters to license. That removes:
Bubba, Pig, Myers, Ghostface, Freddy, Demo, Pyramid Head, Pinhead and Nemesis.
So, that's only 1 less female killer, and 7 less males. So if we look at OG killers. There are 9 males and 5 females.

What your comment came across as was "if we're gonna have another female killer, she needs to be hot, because I'm a guy and I want that". And I'm autistic too, bro - it's not an excuse to make misogynistic comments.
Also, yeah, Spirit's bandages are weird and overly sexualising. That is also a thing they should change.
3 -
There are multiple female characters they could have licensed. Of course some of the game developers don't have much of an influence, just doing their job of programming and designing, but someone has to be deciding who they'll license. BHVR could have had more licensed female Killers, but they've chosen not to.
And 9:5 is still an unnecessarily large difference, especially considering they have full control of what their original characters should be.
3 -
Well no if it came off as that then yeah obviously it should have been removed and that's my fault in honestly I have barely ever communicated let alone spoke to many so yeah, I appreciate you telling me it came off as that I will endeavor to type, and speak better.
Also not using it as a excuse but I also didn't want it to come off as that either.
0 -
That's what I, and presumably the mod, interpreted it as. But hey, mistakes and miscommunication happen, I know how it feels. I'm glad it was just a misunderstanding though :)
2 -
Yeah but at least I learned a bit more, thank you.
1 -
Anyway, on the subject, I prefer a few well designed female killers like the ones we have than poorly designed female killers. Quality over quantity.
Because hell, we all know what is it when devs make female characters just for LGBT people (hello gears of war). Let's not force them, for now, original killers design is very good. I don't know why there are complaints about numbers.

So here's where my thoughts are on this one. Personally I'd be ok with letting the ladies come out here in to the fog and have some bloody fun. No issues with that what so ever. My question is, what kind of big IP is out there that is a female horror icon, as in the killer, who is not a skin, but the actual character? I can't think of any off the top of my head outside of the girl from the Ring. That said though, if BHVR wanted to make more of their own unique female killers, I'd be more than down for that and in fact I encourage it.
Personally I want to see more unique characters in here as a whole. I dunno I just personally feel like if they overload the roster with too many IP characters it kinda takes away the "wow" factor of seeing the big name characters from the movies in the game you know? But yeah, I got no problem with this.

There's no need for anyone to complain about a lack of male characters in any domain, as there rarely is one. In the few instances where the vast majority of the characters are female, they're generally used as fanservice material for men, rather than being actually well-developed characters. Also, who mentioned LGBT people? Though, since you mentioned it, I would be happy with some form of LGBT rep as well.

Jennifer's Body, Serial Mom, The Grudge, American Mary - and those are only a few which I, someone who watches very few horror movies, have seen. BHVR literally work with this, and should know horror/thriller movies way better than I do. Also, although the Scream series is licensed, DBD's Ghostface is an original character, whom they decided to make a generic narcissistic guy, for some reason.

Mary Shaw - Dead Silence
Annabelle - Annabelle
Annie Wilkes - Misery
Tiffany - Bride Of Chucky
Pamela Voorhees - Friday The 13th
Just the top of my head.

thats the first feministic post i 100% agree with, female killers would much more interesting
0 -
Just adding Carrie, Annabelle, Drag Me To Hell, the Nun, The Curse of La Llorona, The Ring, Dead Silence, Misery... There's so many options for licensed female killers.
4 -
Oh yeah, I forgot about the Grudge. Jennifer's Body though...eh...I dunno about that one to be honest. Also I...haven't seen American Mary, so that one is on me. Either way like I said I ain't against adding some female killers to the game. I'm actually fine with it. I would prefer more original killers in general (regardless of gender, before anyone says anything) but hey if they can get a cool enough character again I'm down.
Yoooo! Ok, I love the idea of having La Lloronna there in the game, I love that urban legend. Also I loved the movie Dead Silence and yeah, Mary Shaw running around in the game would be interesting. Oooh...having her use her power to maybe teleport between dolls in the map would be cool!
1 -
Part of the problem is there aren't as many licensed female killers. Also, where is the Hispanic killer?
0 -
I know you guys don't want to hear this, but dbd knows their audience, maybe not their balance, but for sure their audience. Also twins are a female character and trickster may as well be one.
1 -
Hope you're not identifying with murderers btw, sounds pretty unhealthy to me
2 -
Trickster is quite obviously a man, dunno why you're saying that.
