Change the way Gens are repaired

I think gens are worst, most boring part of DBD, you sit and hold M1 for way, WAY too long, it's absolutely non interactive part of the game, plus it allows scared, crouching survivors to just hold M1, hide in bush, hold M1, hide. And I'm saying this as a survivor main.

I think better way to repair gens would be to lower total time you need to hold M1, to something like 15-30 seconds, BUT add things you need to find and bring to repair the gen. For example:

  • To start repairing you need to find Part A, you roam around the map and find that part, you bring it to some gen, hold M1 for 5-10 seconds, and 1/3 of that gen is repaired
  • Then you find Part B and Part C
  • You can carry only one part at a time
  • Of course 3 parts is just a loose suggestion, that'd have to be tested

Overall this would give bit more map control to the killers and would 'force' interaction between survivors and killer, which I think is essential part of the game, most important and... most lacking. You can literally 'win' without seeing the killer and it triggers me when I see survivors like that, that want to play the game just to hold M1 on the gen.

Of course, with this system there would have to be a reword on how regressing gens works etc, but I still think it would make the game much more interactive and less boring. Killers would naturally gain some map control, survivors would actually have to work to repair gens and we'd have more interactions between two parties.

That being said, I'm sure devs will never even take this into consideration, but well... ;)

And what do you guys think? Would it be better to have something like this, or holding M1 for 80 or so seconds is more fun and better?

It will break entire game balance. If u change gen repair into find 21 gen part to power up gates, a lot of perks and items need to be reworked and some killers will be overpowered.

It could be an interesting idea as a sort of early game collapse, where survivors won't instantly pop a gen before the killer can even cross half the map. I don't remember who, but someone suggested having to find and turn on switches before work on gens can begin.

With your approach, how would regression work?

The tricky thing with something like this is to make it so solo survivors don't suffer from these changed objectives compared to swf survivors.

I feel like having parts you need to find in order to repair gens can easily be much harsher on solo than swf survivors. Auras on such parts would probably be a must. More importantky though, survivors would need an ingame feature to let other survivors know what part they are going for.

Swear I saw scott make a video with this idea a long time ago. This could work but it might not with certain perks.
