Totem spawns need to be improved.
The picture speaks for itself. This should not be allowed.

Totems need to be reworked in general. They are completely dependent on RNG.

I'd agree with that- this is a good example of it screwing over Killers, but Survivors sometimes have to deal with ridiculous totem spawns like that one brutal "round a corner in a box at the edge of the map" totem on Lery's.
They need looking at in general.

Problem is that it's not an issue as long you know that it can spawn there.
That's why I have been using Detective's hunch for like hundred games to learn all possible totem spawns, now it is really rare for me not to find any hex, as long I find 1 totem, I can usually find rest, because there is kinda like pentagram pattern on most, or square on maps with guaranteed middle spawns (The Temple of Purgation for example).
Guaranteed spawns should not be a thing...

True, but the ideal situation would be that you can seek out totems without having to rely on something like Detective's Hunch or Counterforce to locate something that's incredibly out of the way and obscured. Obviously totems should take some looking for, but there are some in the game that are a little too difficult to find without aura reading perks.
Granted, most of the bad totem spawns are bad because they're out in the open and way too easy to spot, but it's important to note that fixing the totem spawns would be beneficial for both sides, not just killer.

I mean, it should not be easy to find them without it, that's why there is several perks and item for it.
Try to find any on Racoon city :D
For both sides, because of boon totems?

Yeah it’s wide open and you can see it from a mile away sometimes. They’re so easy to spot in Autohaven.

The thing is as difficult as some spawns are, it's not hard to remember those and check them in the future.
If you play enough survivor, you'll notice there are a ton of guaranteed totem spawns on several maps which really make the killer running hexes pointless.

This is why totems are actually good, let me explain.
Totems spots can be everywhere on the map, either super well hidden or in plain sight. That's where their strengths is.
When searching for hexes, survivors have to go to every spot possible in the map, turning around every rock they see,... Robbing a lot of time.
If they were only good spots for totems, these would be limited, and survivors would just have to remember like... Maybe 10-15 spots per map ?
But yeah, sometimes you get good spots, sometimes not, that's how hexes work.

ahh yes, I love it when my Ruin is cleansed in 30 seconds because it's in the middle of the open. No you're missing the point, I'm not saying just remove the open totems. I'm saying remove them AND add more well hidden totems. They're supposed to be a second objective for survivors to spend time on. Not to be cleansed in the first few seconds of the game, rendering you with 3 perks. And let me assure you. If I take note of every time my Hex is broken within 90 seconds of the game starting. It'll be an overwhelming majority.

But it is inconsistent. In an asymmetrical game like dbd, there really is no place for elements like perks being RNG reliant.
You can never fully rely on your hex perks. While that is sort of the point, it is still way too inconsistent. A large majority of killer players actually never run them because they want perks that can work for them; lots of killer players don't use those perks at all and are more limited to a smaller selection of perks. That is not very fun.
Sure, you get good spots and bad spots. But it is just unreliable and borderline gimmicky.
I say totems should be reworked to be more consistent somehow.

It's not really that hard as you say.
There is always pattern based on what you can search once you find first totem and you just check guaranteed spawns first for that.
Only map where Hex build is worth using is Racoon city.
Anyone who used Detective's hunch for more than 10 games will find your totems.
Even if there would be less spawns, but more hidden -> you will eliminate random noobs finding your hexes.
Also don't remember that survivors can spawn actually looking at your hex.

"A large majority of killer players actually never run them." This is so incredibly untrue, it hurts. Literally the majority of my survivor matches are killers still running ruin/undying/tinkerer. Occasionally you don't see tinkerer, but ruin is in every single match I play on DBD. It is absolutely ridiculous.
Worst part is, these players usually play so terribly, but win thanks to ruin never being found.

So every game you play against hex totems they are never found? And ruin is in every match? That sounds more untrue than what I said because that is most certainly not true.
Also I think I just played against you on grim pantry, weren't you the person who dced on the first down of the match?

Its definitely not true, because most of my matches they last the entire game because my team mates are waiting to unhook me instead of doing the objective or looking for totems, they like to follow the player being chased around. And yup, I was having a bad day so I disconnected and went to play another game.
Legit tried playing 5 matches today, and the one match I do get with no ruin is against Blight which is not a fun killer to go against.

Well my favourite builds are full Hex totems, so I know how it works.... And I play survivor too so I know how much it is a pain to search for totems.
0 -
Would have agreed as I think hex placement counter the choice to use them, but with boons coming let them stay bad and in the open.
0 -
But then totems would be too hard for the survivor's!! Oh actually doing anything other than gens is taboo and anyone suggesting otherwise should be burned for their beliefs but yeah don't expect this to happen but I feel you I do.

And then on indoor maps, they're almost impossible to find, even with Small Game or any other perk to find them. It's almost like they're high risk, high reward, except you just want all the reward. Not to mention the corn maps that are almost invisible, and I rely entirely on HEARING them to have any chance of finding them.

There easy to find on all maps except for RPD. I had ruin for 1 whole minute in game against a group of people with out small game and with out a map or any form of finding it. Why? Because the damn thing was right next to a gen...
Always wonderful when I try a new build to actually utilize a hex but goes out the window in mere seconds.

Hexes are Obsolete and I will never change my mind on this. It's why I don't care for any of them.
