I’m genuinely disgusted at BHVR supporting NFTs

any% speedrun, kill your company

Also, maybe they do things differently up North, but here in the U.S., companies usually reserve announcements of bad news or things that they know will upset their consumer base until late Friday afternoons, when people are generally distracted by the upcoming weekend and more likely to miss the said announcement. Not on a Monday, when people are more likely to be paying attention. Seems they couldn't even get that right. 🤦♂️

As people said the thread is already being censored lol

I promise you I am not trying to start an argument. I think NFTs are a ripoff at best. But I do have to ask for clarification (I had a real bad day today unrelated to any of this, so I am not thinking at 100% clarity atm): What deceit are you (and I assume others) referring to?

Their accounts are wildly unreliable though, there have been a good deal of complaints from people that some of their accounts have disappeared or worse yet reset.
1 -
Keep the thread going, they can’t jail us all.
7 -
I wonder if this had anything to do with losing Stranger Things. Is Netflix against killing the planet?
7 -
I believe that was just genuinely because of the game Netflix is making, maybe they knew that dbd would attract more players.
5 -
they posted on twitter a few days ago saying they had no involvement with any NFTs. That they gave them (BossProtocol) the assets for Pinhead from DBD to them. And they can do with those assests as they like. Then now they say they were working with BossProtocol to make special assets specifically for the NFTs, and they openly endorse them.
6 -
I read about that.
1 -
They basically lied to the community
8 -
Gotcha. Thank you.
1 -
Just changed my Steam review to negative and am permanently uninstalling the game.
DbD was not worth the time and money I sank into it, and I am extremely disappointed.
14 -
It's nice to see the community coming together on this. This is disgusting and BHVR deserves all the hate they are getting. Won't be buying anything for this game anymore.
17 -
It's nice to see the community coming together on this
Yeah it's refreshing to see both sides put their trivial differences to rest and come together over something that's really destructive to the world.
15 -
But you know, we should have known. Only a few weeks back some people pointed out how a couple of fogwhisperers are sponsored by/are promoting crapto. That bhvr didn't kick them out of the program immediately should have told us everything
7 -
They tweeted several things before and then BP code after... I think they were hoping people would get distracted by the other tweets. 😂
5 -
I don't 'boycott' things lightly, but this is making me seriously consider it.
Would rather no Pinhead than this.
Regretting all the money I've spent on this game. At least I've got 1000 auric cells set to keep my rift going indefinitely.
5 -
Speaking of fog whisperer is ohm still one?
Because if he is they need to check his Twitter as he was being a major d bag on Twitter

Don't just uninstall the game, request a refund. Let Steam know the horrid practices of what BHVR is doing and hit them where it hurts, their wallets.
Just submitted for refunds through steam on the game and all of the DLC I bought. Will it get approved? Probably not since I've owned it and played it for many years. But at least Steam will be tracking it since I annotated the reasons on why I wanted a refund and provided sources. I suggest y'all do the same.

What is all the outrage all about? I'm genuinely not up to speed
1 -
Nfts
A pyramid scheme that harms the environment and also encourages art theft
6 -
Boy am I glad I didn't buy Pinhead.
But boy am I upset I ever spent money on the game.
Between the rampant hackers, Console getting ######### seemingly every update and never getting their promised 60 FPS, SBMM making the game miserable and NFT's, it's a wonder the game is alive at all.
16 -
Like they have been on a roll with this ######### lately
It's like they want to piss everyone off or something
3 -
I knew with their silence after concerns were brought up for over week on here, reddit & Twitter that it was true. Never underestimate what a company will do. There is no way NFTS were quietly or not mentioned to them and that this isn't BHVR's fault. They agreed to it....Is rather NOT have a licensed killer if it meant not NFT bs.
This is ridiculously disappointing and disgusting. I'm absolutely not playing this game or any future BHVR titles because of this. Even if they "back down" and reverse it, it already shows that they won't draw a line and it's done enough damage. Don't give them pats on the back because if they change course, it'll be PR stunts to claim innocence on their behalf. Shouldn't give praise for doing a greedy, horrible that by now enough info has been out about NFTs, and only after backlash to "do the right thing". That's why the game industry is such a mess...
And this blows chunks because I still loved this game....enjoyed playing it despite the issues I've had with it....was even going to be getting some of the dlc. But not anymore and I take no ######### pleasure in this whole thing at all.
7 -
Not sure it would work. However, if you state it's for the reason of NFTs, and Steam recently released their opinion of them, then it would be interesting to see the reaction. What if the Hellraiser dlc was asked to be refunded by everyone who owns it? As that has direct links to NFTs, that could be a lot easier to argue the case.
5 -
Can someone give me a general idea of what NFTs are and why is this a bad thing?
0 -
The one positive I see coming out of all of this is that since BHVR is okay with NFTs, we can just make our own NFTs of DBD content. /s
Auctioning off all my screenshots and recorded gameplay of DBD matches, $500 bucks a pop. /s

an NFT is a digital cert that says you own a particular piece of digital media. Most commonly a piece of artwork. They are tradable via cryptocurrencies and the certificate is kept valid on huge computer servers.
Why is this a bad thing? The servers that produce cryptocurrencies and uphold NFTs are extremely power hungry. so for example the blockchain Ethereum which uses the cryptocurrency Ether, runs on servers and computers that consume more energy than the entire country of Denmark, per year. It's this excessive usage if power which directly contributes to global warming that causes them to be so distasteful. A single transaction made with Ether consumes enough power to power an average US household for two and a half days.
So, by supporting and promoting NFTs, BHVR is in essence promoting excessive power usage and global warming. Which is why there is such outrage right now,

Money laundering/Pyramid scheme that actively harms the environment and often steals artist's work. All that to buy a digital receipt to a piece of digital "art" that you don't own or even have.
5 -
It's not about getting the actual refund. It's simply just sending a message. You either get a refund for all the content you bought or you keep the game and uninstall it while watching the storm brew as Steam is notified of the practices. If you get a refund, that's even more of a bonus.
4 -
I don't really want to make any uneducated assumptions (Though I likely already have)
Heres what I take the NFT thing to be:
- BHVR knew about the NFT, worked with them, and kept it from the playerbase to avoid scandal.
- The way the NFTs are formatted, they can not get the game removed from steam
- NFT are made from cryptocurrency, namely eutherium, which causes damage to the enviroment. (How it does I don't know, though I think its to do with energy costs for crypto mining, and I dont get that process either.)
- In buying the Pinhead DLC, you help the NFTs.
- BHVR bent the truth, with misleading statements to the community, to get purchases.
- People are pissed.
Is this all? Or is there a part im missing, thanks!
8 -
It's also an obvious pyramid scheme because eventually someone is going to be holding a nft they can't sell(which is why this ######### took off because money)
3 -
I agree, which is why I said it would be interesting to see what happens. With luck, we might see some action pretty soon - afterall, if Steam want to crack down on NFT-related stuff, then they'll most definitely want to analyse this.
One interesting thing would be if they don't remove it. If that happened, what is the real relationship between DBD and these NFTs, because that would be really confusing with all of these mixed messages. Why we got mixed messages in the first place is confusing enough!
1 -
I'm tempted to say pissed is an understatement
10 -
I sent a refund. Not sure if anything will come from it, but it's done.
3 -
Bhvr didn't bend the truth they lied
They said they wasn't doing anything nft related only to say that they are
10 -
Honestly a bit disappointing like I realize they aren't supposed to be nice they are a company in the end, but they were off to such a great start from the midchapter, well besides the bugs and broken things overall a lot of decent changes. Though this just honestly sour the mood overall, I honestly was hoping that it was a scam and it was fake but turns out the people who called it out were semi-right.
3 -
Wow, they really did it this time.
Dropping my apology here to everyone who insisted this was really happening even when it seemed so blatantly absurd that some of us thought it had to be some twisted joke. My b.
12 -
you have nothing to be sorry about, BHVR straight up lied to us. Novody could have seen this coming
13 -
step 2 , suspend OP

Imagine being a fog whisperer.

As many disagreements and arguments we as a community have had with each other, I think we can all agree on this. This is utterly and absolutely heartbreaking. I have never been so physically sick over a video game I love with my whole heart. I've been shaking, verge of tears, this is a betrayal BVHR will never recover from and I'm terrified what's going to happen to this game's future. Greed really ruins everything. If this is what it took to get Pinhead into the game, it 10000% wasn't worth it and I think many of us would agree we would rather not have had him, to have our beloved game's integrity tainted. I think we would've been alright waiting longer until a more, better, option to have Hellraiser in the game would've presented itself.
I honestly don't know what to do about the Mikaela chapter tomorrow. I don't want to support a company who will stoop this low for a quick buck.
I hope it was worth it, BHVR. I really hope it was worth it.
13 -
somebody needs to get this to Jim Sterling or something. Somebody who can really help influence the future of this game. It's clear BHVR want to run it into the dirt.
6 -
Yea, this isnt about game balance, or Survivor vs Killer. If I remember right, a dev once said "If the Community is arguing, the game is doing well, once people stop, we're in trouble" well bhvr, It seems you were right.
13 -
They saw it
And made a quote tweet so it will most likely be a video
Edited to include the tweet https://twitter.com/JimSterling/status/1450194625986170882?t=KcDFs1FlRQRIFR1HNYvieA&s=19

It's been brought up to Stephanie Sterling since this first cropped up. They are aware of it all

I know exactly what to do... I'm keeping my money and I'll get her with shards (if I don't decide to just uninstall the game). I'm furious with BHVR right now.
