Today has been my worst day playing killer.

When I first started playing DBD I had a lot of things I enjoyed, but over time this enjoyment has ben slowly over time been shaven away, just little bit by little bit.

At first I felt it was some killers were just not being looked at and updated (legion is still IMHO in the worst position still)

The meta has been stale for over a year now, survivors will only run the exact same builds after a certain point, now it's across the board because they need to climb the MMR, this may sound like a perception bias, and I can understand that, however when I can sit down any day of the week and watch a fog whisper for 5 hours playing as killer and see over all games where every single time the survivors are using the exact same build with the odd exception it's a pretty bad sign.

Does it feel unfair to the killer? Not really. Does it feel like a painful routine when you can predict a person's exact build based on their playstyle, absolutely.

3/4 players you can always expect to see dead hard, if you don't see a lithe or a sprint burst used before a chase, 99.99% of the time your baiting out dead hard.

Did you down that survivor oddly quickly? Did you hook them previously? Did they jump in a locker to avoid the hit? Decisive Strike used as an aggressive tool.

Ever start a chase and notice the player immediately is running deep into the opposite side of the map, recklessly past generators but no one seems to be on them? You're in a 4man.

I could turn this into pages of small complaints like this but I'm going to cut off short to what today was like.

So you take everything, all the small annoyances, the minimal window killers have to make even the smallest mistake, and you throw boon totems on top of that, honestly that's the straw for me. I'm done, I'm broken, I've had enough.

Three survivors basically are getting a free perk slot self-care killers can't remove from the game because snuffing a totem can just be relit again. I thought this couldn't be all that oppressively broken but BOY WAS I WRONG. Turns out that tier 3 totems actually make it a 16 seconds, not 32 like the perk Self Care. Forget ever needing a medkit boon totems got you.

One of the best strategies as a killer to give yourself a last stand situation was to have a 3 gen. Keeping a cluster of the last 3 generators closely packed together. Boon totems completely nullify any advantage this gives you. Survivors can brazenly stay on top of a generator and let themselves get hit by the killer before running away to a safe distance. If the killer presses onwards, the other generator is lost. If they don't chase the survivor is healed, and back on the generator before the killer even has time to check back on it again from patrolling the other generator.

With these stronger tools given to survivors and the overall state of the game right now I'm pretty certain I can happily walk away from it now, it's been a good 1000 hours but at this point the role of the killer feels like a laughable joke.

I'll probably keep an eye on patch notes for a while, likely still watch the streams of high level killers still, but even that's starting to get pretty grating as well as even those that main killer; I haven't heard in months a single time where playing killer is an enjoyable experience. They're only getting back on that horse to grind it out because it's become a livelihood for them and I have to agree which makes me feel very fortunate I'm in a position where I can just wash my hands and walk away, but I sympathize with them, especially ones I've supported in the past with subscriptions, that the game has become so miserable.
