Let's cancel the grade system!

Now we have MMR, and players' grade means nothing other than your play-hours.

So, why not just cancel it and replace the monthly-reward mechanism with a simple number: how many trials you play.

Some people think DBD is a party game, some think it's relatively competitive. Some care about the preps and grades, some just wanna have fun. It’s impossible to make everybody happy in this condition.

The intention of grade is to make challenges for players. If you reach R1, or Iridescent 1, that’s great. But the process also makes people frustrating, calculating, furious, toxic, unhealthy. Therefore, players always complain about gen rushing, about which killer or perk too OP, about nerfs and buffs.

What if we just cancel the grades (and keep the MMR)?

Players no longer have to “climb” the grade. No grade, no pressure. Everybody is happy.

Yes, you could still “lose” the trial, but it does not make you angry anymore.

Every 30 days, we get our bloodpoint rewards by our grades. In the future we just get the rewards by how many trials we have played: 1, 5, 25, 100, 150…

It still keeps people playing this game, but without negative thoughts. Isn’t it wonderful?

    I would love this.

I really hate Grade system, way more than SBMM. I know that Grade means absolutely nothing and I am going to get reset each ######### month, but I was in red ranks for a long time, so I just have need to be there each month even now, which results in my trying to win as many games as possible fast, then I can play normally as max grade, it's kinda stressful.

Either this -> based on games, or just make it calendar system? For full reward, you have to start dbd (and maybe play 1 game) each day.

You still reward players for playing more than others, but because they is not really a feedback, you are not pressured to do it.

Grade could be used for MMR, so we get feedback how match making works and they could just show us exact numbers as our personal info, so grades would be only +/- MMR for others. I wouldn't even need rewards for it after this.

The emblem system is still useful for encouraging players to play fair, it rewards killers for hooks over kills, and survivors for doing a bit of everything.

We already have systems for rewarding playtime or daily play in the daily rituals, and basic BP rewards.

I'm not sure how you could tie grade to MMR seeing as MMR in uncapped.

It's not uncapped, there is realistic limit and there is also softcap.

So you could make max grade anything above top softcap (1900), because it's just doesn't matter at that point.

Lowest tier can be below bottom softcap (800)

    Easy to design...

Emblem system is flawed, but it could stay as general feedback for how the game went, also adepts.

It's a softcap, which means it's uncapped. They can change that 1900 cap as and when necessary, so how do you assign values for everything below?

There's a soft minumum too, of 1100, which everyone starts at, but you can drop below it.

So there's a tentative 800 range, that can change.

    Is 1800 a "Iridescent III"?

What about when the softcap gets raised to 2200? What's an "Iridescent III" then?

    So you have:

    bottom softcap 800

    starting value 1100

    top softcap 1900

realistic limit is supposed to be 3000

SBMM really doesn't care that much if it is above / below softcaps, so there is no need to show it in grades, I would show it as personal info. I can't be bothered to type grades, so I will just use ranks instead.

Those numbers doesn't have to be written as a number, they can be variables in code, so it's not like you have to change it every time MMR changes in values... It would change based on current softcaps

So when they decide to raise the MMR cap, because too many people are above 1900, what then?

I don’t mind the grades other than that there’s really no reason to see your opponent’s grades after a match since they’re not used for matchmaking at all. I’d prefer if instead of showing the grade it showed a roughly matchmaking rating bracket identified (e.g. divide the SBMM ratings into 5% or 10% brackets and give that rough percentile bracket on the endgame screen). That would give a more accurate impression of where the game believes you and your opponents were skill-wise.

They could do it on 13th, where everyone is used to rank change, so everyone's rank will be changed based on new softcap values.

    Still not an issue...

Right, however the numbers actually line up, something along those lines.

I would show grade as +/- MMR, so everyone can see how matchmaking worked and show exact MMR as personal info

I'm not opposed to seeing my actual MMR, I know the devs want to keep the exact numbers hidden though so I'm not expecting it to happen. 🤷‍♂️

What I'm thinking is simple: keep the emblem and MMR, but cancel the grade.

It's hell to rank up the grade. It's stressful, It makes people playing toxic. It's just not fun at all.

Every month is like "I have to reach R1!" and it confines my play style cuz all I need is to get 4k.

In fact, when testing MMR this year, I remember there was a short period that grade didn't exist. Just few days, and that few days are the most fun time I have in DBD.

The grading system really needs to be canceled. The developers said that the current system will show how much you play and reward for it. But the system has problems with this:

    • As a killer, if you play a lot but don't care about winning, then your progress through the emblems will be extremely slowed down or stopped.
    • As a survivor, if you are playing solo and escape is not your main concern, then your progress through the emblems will be extremely slowed down or stopped.
    • With SCF, the problem is the opposite. On the contrary, they quickly move along the emblems.
    • Players are still guided by ranks.

    Totally agreed with you.

Though grade means nothing anymore, people still judge (wrongly) you by that. We all know that everyday people complain about matchmaking by ranks. It's impossible to make everyone knows the idea that rank had no meaning.

And there is one thing I really hate. We used to keep some ranks before, but now we have to climb form R20 to R1 every month, no matter what rank you got in last month. It's very annoying.

I like the idea of simple, daily and monthly play bonuses. Very easy.

We can keep emblems for match BP awards.

Ya, and emblems are the feedback to your performance. You still could win and lose, but it would be a one-game thing, you still get happy when winning, but won't get angry when losing. Most importantly, you have the same monthly rewards progress even if you lose.

This is exactly what I meant.

We don't need a false goal to reach, which even means nothing.

We don't need that false goal to prove my capability playing this game.

We have so many challenges in tomes, and lots of them are in the opposite to the grading system (eg. using certain perks which are off meta.) If my goal every month is to get R1, or Iridescent 1, I will never have chance to take those special challenges in tomes.

I hope this "cancelling grade system" idea can create a better environment for DBD.
