MMR Feedback - thoughts, ideas
Hello DBD Team,
I just want to give some mmr feedback and my thoughts about it. I also watched the dev stream and was a little bit confused, that the mmr calculation is only based on kills/escapes.
What is skill?
I think you're mixing win/lose conditions with player skill. Winning or killing does not mean you're skilled.
Let's assume someone is afk and dies, that would mean as killer I have more skill then this person. This is absolutly false. Another example is a survivor that hides the whole match, does nothing and finally escapes. This isn't a skilled player. The win conditions in both examples are fullfilled, but that isn't equal to skill.
DBD skill is all about decision making. Skill should increase more or less, if you make the right decision, else it should decrease more or less. I know it's hard to find out, if a decision was perfect, but even a 70% accurate system would be better than a kill/escape system. The old pip system did a good job there. There were a few problems with the old system, but nothing that couldn't be optimized.
Ideas:
1. There were not enough events to determinate skill. Just add some more.
2. Minus pips, although the player made the best decision in a certain situation. If the best thing I can do generators, then that's a good decision.
3. It should also be killer based. The good thing of the new mmr.
4. It was to easy to reach the highest lvl. Which means rang 1 was mixed with normale to very good players. For example rang 1 should only contain very good to best players.
So, I would say take the old pip system and improve it.
Match Statistics:
I think your match statistics will maybe show you something like 50%/50% win/loss ratio for the current mmr. But it does not show you the quality of the matches. Example for 10 matches. You escape 5/10 matches, because the killer is new and don't know how to catch survivors. Then you loose 5 matches, because your teammates hide and do not rescue you. Statistics will tell you that you the mmr is fair, but it does not show you that the match quality is awful. That's my biggest complain. The quality of the matches has decreased.
SWF and MMR:
Additionally for a swf i would increase the mmr ratio by for example n% for each additional player of the swf for the killer search, because of the communication advantage (only for the matchmaking algorithm to find a matching killer, not permanent). They should get a more skilled killer.
Example with 25%:
4 Players - > 2 swf + 25% mmr
4 Players - > 3 swf + 50% mmr
4 Players - > 4 swf + 75% mmr
So, if the mmr ratio of 4 random player is 2000. It should be 2500, if 2 players are in a swf, but only to find a stronger killer. The personal mmr of the players stay.
Hint: 25% ist just an example, but I'm sure you get the idea behind it.
Hint 2: I hope someone reads this.
Best regards
Waldbeerlein

Why precise improvements to the game's MMR are not possible
1. The difference between a party player and a solo player destroys the meaning of MMR.
2. A killer with 100% ability and a killer with 50% ability can have the same MMR. So, if the skill of the survivors is 80%, it is easy to feel 100% killer, but the 50% killer only gets stress and all the survivors escape.
3. In a match with 2 party players skills, 2 solo players will be matched with low skill survivors for an average killer balance, making the game very difficult for 2 solo players.
There are many other reasons, but detailed matches are absolutely impossible in MMR, and depending on the frequency of match imbalances, you will have to change back to the previous ranked match. Before and After MMR Patch Many people think that before MMR is better.
Taking into account the opinions of some streamers and some feedback users
MMR patches have been made, but some don't use the game. Developers do not create games based on feedback.
