issue joining friends on ps5 from a ps4

for some reason me and my friend where unable to join each other he was on ps5 and I was on ps4 they would not appear in my dbd friends list and if I tried to join through PsPlus it would link me to the ps5 version of dbd in the store. I managed to circumvent this by removing him from my PS friends list and re adding him as a close friend.
there is an issue between the ps4 and ps5 versions of dbd
