Hillbilly Rework to make OVERHEATING a good thing

As a Hillbilly, or any Killer for that matter, you should be encouraged to use your power as much as possible. After all, you're helpless without it. And in a game where map mobility and pressure are becoming increasingly necessary to win games, your power should be the last thing on the chopping block when it comes to resources.

So, in this rework, I'm intending to turn Hillbilly's overheat into a beneficial mechanic that rewards the player for using his chainsaw often.

But why not just remove the overheat mechanic completely? Well, because I like it visually and it adds more depth to his power, and, with it, opportunities to expand on it. I'm not a Hillbilly player, but I think I know enough about him to put together a decent rework concept, so feel free to recommend any tweaks or tell me if this is a bad idea.

overheat change

When using Hillbilly's Chainsaw, it'll slowly accumulate heat, which intensifies his rage. As the Chainsaw heats up, you'll gain a small stat bonus upon reaching certain levels of heat:

  • 50% Heat: Reduces the Chainsaw's cooldown by 1 second. However, its noise range is increased by 12 meters and your terror radius by 8 meters.
  • 75% Heat: Increases the Chainsaw's charge speed by 25%.
  • 100% Heat: Increases movement speed while charging the Chainsaw to 4.0 m/s.

Upon reaching maximum (100%) heat, the Chainsaw won't overheat until:

  • You END a Chainsaw Sprint. If you're already sprinting when you reach max heat, this doesn't apply.
  • You don't rev the Chainsaw for 8 seconds. The 8-second timer pauses while revving the Chainsaw.

Once the Chainsaw is overheated, it becomes unusable as it cools at an accelerated rate (around 4-6 seconds of cooling). The Chainsaw becomes usable again at 25% Heat.

  • Note: Heat accumulates the same way as it does currently, EXCEPT that STARTING to rev the Chainsaw no longer adds heat immediately.

thought process

This change is meant to add a level of thrill to the chase and encourage long and intense chases, which plays into Hillbilly's idea of being difficult to shake as a Survivor since longer chases will benefit him. This change also opens the door for some fun add-ons, which you will see below!

Keep in mind, the numbers can be changed accordingly. None of these values are official and can be changed at your request if you deem them too little or too much.

add-on pass

Add-ons with a * next to its name have been changed.

Common add-ons

*Steel Toe Boots
  • Instantly gain 5% heat upon breaking a pallet or wall with the Chainsaw, and then pause the Chainsaw's cooling for 3 seconds.

Heavy Clutch
  • Reduces the Chainsaw's collision zone by 30%, allowing for tighter turns.
  • UNCHANGED

*Speed Limiter
  • Survivors hit with the Chainsaw are only damaged for one health state and are afflicted with a Deep Wound.
  • Gain 100% more bloodpoints in the Deviousness category.

*Black Grease
  • Increases the turning threshold when starting a Chainsaw Sprint to 1.25 seconds (from 0.75 seconds). (meaning the short window where your sensitivity is super high is longer)
  • Rarity reduced from Rare to Common

---

Uncommon add-ons

Dad's Boots
  • Increases your turning rate during a Chainsaw Sprint by 28%.
  • UNCHANGED

Death Engravings
  • Reduces Chainsaw charge speed by 12% and heat accumulation by 14%.
  • Increases Chainsaw movement speed by 15%.
  • UNCHANGED

*Punctured Muffler
  • Increases the time before the Chainsaw overheats to 12 seconds (from 8) after reaching maximum heat.
  • Increases the Chainsaw's cooling speed by 20% when it overheats.

*Off-Brand Motor Oil
  • When reaching 50% Heat, instead of increasing the Chainsaw's noise and your terror radius, the Chainsaw's noise and your terror radius are reduced by 50%.

*Low Kickback Chains
  • Increases recovery speed after bumping into an object with the Chainsaw by 28%.
  • Rarity reduced from Rare to Uncommon, UNCHANGED otherwise

---

Rare add-ons

Mother's Helpers
  • Increases the Chainsaw's charge speed by 18% for 30 seconds after being stunned by a pallet.
  • UNCHANGED

*Leafy Mash
  • When starting to rev the Chainsaw from below 50% Heat, become Undetectable for 15 seconds.
  • This effect can be triggered again after reaching 50% Heat.

Doom Engravings
  • Reduces Chainsaw charge speed by 12% and heat accumulation by 14%.
  • Increases Chainsaw movement speed by 20%.
  • UNCHANGED

*Big Buckle
  • When destroying a pallet or wall with the Chainsaw, or downing a Survivor with the Chainsaw, all Survivors within 20 meters of you scream and reveal their locations.
  • Rarity increased from Uncommon to Rare

*Junkyard Air Filter
  • When the Chainsaw overheats, it will become usable again at 40% heat (instead of 25%).
  • Rarity increased from Common to Rare

---

Very Rare add-ons

*Tuned Carburetor
  • Increases successful and missed Chainsaw attack cooldowns by 0.5 seconds.
  • Increases the Chainsaw's charge speed by 20%.
  • Increases movement speed while charging the Chainsaw by 5%.
  • Reduces The Hillbilly's base movement speed to 4.4 m/s.
  • All bonuses incurred by this add-on are applied on top of the bonuses granted by increasing heat levels.

Spiked Boots
  • Increases your turning rate during a Chainsaw Sprint by 44%.
  • Reduces recovery speed after bumping into an object with the Chainsaw by 28%.
  • UNCHANGED

*Pighouse Gloves
  • When hitting a Survivor with the Chainsaw, its cooling is paused until you rev the Chainsaw again.

*LoPro Chains
  • Continue a Chainsaw Sprint after breaking a pallet or wall with the Chainsaw.
  • Survivors hit with the Chainsaw 3 seconds after breaking a pallet or wall are only damaged for a single health state and suffer from a Deep Wound.

---

ultra rare add-ons

Apex Muffler
  • Survivors outside of your terror radius don't hear the Chainsaw.
  • UNCHANGED

*Iridescent Brick
  • Removes the movement speed bonus from reaching 100% Heat.
  • When destroying a pallet or wall with the Chainsaw, or hitting a Survivor with it, instantly cool the Chainsaw by 25% and block all windows and pallets within a 32 meter radius for 20 seconds.

end

I applaud you for making it this far. It is my mission to brainstorm ideas to make lesser-used Killers and perks more viable and fun to use! As with anything on this channel, feedback would be appreciated. Especially because I'm not an avid Hillbilly player, I could be horribly misjudging the base strength of the Hillbilly.

In any case, thanks for reading!

I don't play hillbilly, but I appreciate your enthusiasm. Everybody I know who used to play Hillbilly quit after the overheat. It feels bad to have your whole thing get reworked just to make it bad. Too many killer powers get 'balanced' in such a way that actually using the power feels bad and messes with you more than it actually helps.

The punishment for using your power should never outweigh the benefits.

Even better idea, remove the overheating mechanic entirely and give him addons that are actually good.

I don’t think either of you guys read. I’m sorry.

In my rework, you get more buffs the more your chainsaw heats up. Overheating will only ever happen after an attack, never during charge-up or a sprint, and it only lasts a few seconds.

If it’s difficult to understand, I can elaborate. I can only explain so well with words alone. Just tell me what part is confusing.
