Mechanic suggestion to improve sportsmanship, Mercy hatch
Hey there fellow surviouvors and killers.
I have a suggestion on a gameplay mechanic that could improve sportmanship to the game (just a little bit).
I call it "mercy hatch".
Give the killers an alternative to drop the last survivour down the hatch if they are carriyng them.(maybe with a cool animation).
"but you can allready do that that" - you say.
Today you have to choose between a 4k and kill a survivour that you think deserv escape or give hatch and loose BP.
the "mercy hatch" could give a BP reward to the killer and be a little "you did well/ I liked playing with you" to the survivour.
Thoughts?
Btw, loong time lurker, first time poster.

Why not but I would add there it counts as a win for the Killer (MMR points gain) so you are not "punished" and it would increase the motivation to do it too I think.
Also Survivor would got tie (no loss / no gain MMR).

Hi there and welcome!
i wouldn’t mind it, but I guess this is something where it actually makes sense to also think about the other side, so a mercy kill/hook if the killer didn’t get any survs and all 4 are at the exit gate.

No, I usualy give hatch just to gain less MMR...

Good suggestion. But actually they are planning on making you mori-able as the last survivor. for the upcomming mori rework

I Agree.
You could just drop them the regular way if you want to do that.
Mercy hatch would be an active "press E above hatch while carrying surv"
Its for those who still want to battle it out with the last survivour for the win. But still let them escape for a gg.

I would feel mori last survivour could be the alternative for the toxic survivours... hehe

Good idea, but not needed.
As survivor, sometimes I'm last to survive, after trying to find the hatch and failing... well, I'm left with little time for gate rush attempt. Then it's 50/50. If Killer is fast and I don't have time to open, I usually drop my item (if any) and crouch. That leaves killer to decide what to do next...
As killer, if someone DC early, last player usually spared (unless clicky-clicky) and carried to the hatch. Sometimes it's pointless to hook the survivor once gens are down and their 3 teammates ready to escape. So the game is lost, any unfortunate dude gets downed and carried into the gate ("You kids get off my lawn!").
Whole idea of Mercy is not gaining points, but GIVING them away.

This change implies that Killers aren't the sportsmen in dbd. Survivors are the ones that constantly grief and are 'unsportsmanlike'.
Obviously this is talking about the majority, there are always exceptions.

I belive the sybolic action of actually "giving the hatch" gives a better vibe. And I think giving a reward to players that give mercy would make players do it more often.
Many players "play to win" and want that reward for "winning" and would therefore opt out of giving the hatch for the loss of BP.
Its more a mechanic to "force good manners" to those who usually doesnt and would overall give a game known for a "we and them" community take a step into a friendlier direction.

See it as a tool to reward those survivours that aren't unsportsmanlike without just "giving them the win"
You still have the option too hook/mori.

You could be bullied in the chat for "not giving the hatch".
Also that can encourage more toxic behaviour. Like killer carrying survivor across the map just to drop and close hatch right in front of him. Survivor won't wiggle waiting for mercy... until it's too late. Or survivor wiggling away right before they get "Mercy hatch" so killer don't get any points.
In my opinion it's better to:
Let them present killer an offering for letting to open the gate.
If offering is accepted and survivor don't try to teabag or take the offered item back - they escape.
Else... else :)
Edit: typo.

Those who bully in chat are the kind of people who didnt deserve mercy hatch in the first place.
If surviouvors wiggle they are still playing and dosent acknowledge the killer has won and its anyones game.
Toxic players are gonna be toxic. But those who are standing on the edge of hatch or kill, this could be the push to give hatch for a better "feel" post game for both parties.
