Quick Fix: The Additional Objectives that are Totems

Another hot topic floating about seems to be the need for additional objectives in the game. As a (albeit rather new player in general) Killer who can't compete against gen rushing survivors I could agree to that notion as even if I'm getting a person down, at rank 3 they can juke me around for a solid minute before I manage to hook them. Thus, additional objectives would allow the killer to have more time to compete while giving the survivors more opportunity to complete and earn BP. The best additional objective there could be already exists within the game, the Totem system.

As it currently stands totems seem to be an annoyance but not a problem for Survivors, a lot of totems actually being bearable to not bother cleansing, and if they do choose to cleanse them it inhibits the killer greatly as they lose an entire perk from the ordeal. The risk versus reward of most Hexes is by far not worth it, and there exist much better perks to go for over them. But what if you didn't have to choose them over other perks?

In my vision the Totem system would be reworked in such a way that Survivors and Killers both would have a mechanic for "Hex Charms" and "Hex Creations". First and foremost this would not scrap the current 7 Hexes that exist but simply modify them so that they could apply to the new system, but first let's discuss the new system. All five totems would start lit, that is to say Dull Totems would not exist any longer. At the top of each Totem are three skulls, I would have these skulls represent the Killer's "Minor Hexes", ones that interfere with gameplay additively to create boons for themselves or vices for the Survivors. For instance one could be that Totems take 2/4/6/8/10 seconds long to cleanse depending on how many totems are left. Another could be that the Killer gains 2/3/4/5/6% haste depending on how many totems are left. The general gist of it would be that at the beginning of the match these Minor Hexes would be at their prime and trouble for Survivors.

The other part of the Totem would then be represented by the two Candles lit at the bottom, the "Major Hexes". These would be the more Unique and powerful hexes, the kind we already have. Some of them would need to be toned down or adjusted in order to be useful in this new system, but in general they would be the most dangerous aspect of the Totems and the ones Survivors want to cleanse the most. An example of a Hex that wouldn't need to be adjusted is NOED, it would simply be necessary for Survivors to cleanse all totems so that it doesn't activate when the exit gates start. An example of a Hex that would need to be changed on the other hand is Haunted Grounds. Perhaps it could instead cause Survivors to be Exposed for 30s and Blinded for 60s every time a Totem is cleansed. Regardless, that in a nutshell would be the new Totem system for Killers who could custom build totems to suit their needs.

On the other side of the field we then have Survivors. They would join in this system in the form of "Hex Charms", creations made of wood carvings Survivors have whittled while around the campfire that assist in protecting them against Hexes. Being a necklace with a medallion the Hex Charm would have two boons to aid the Survivor. Current Survivor Hex perks such as Small Game could apply to this and aid the Survivor in finding totems and cleansing them quicker, while new Survivor Hex perks could be made such as one that reduces the effectiveness of 1/2/3 of the minor perks by 1s/1%. If all four survivors ran such a Hex Charm perk that'd reduce the effectiveness of the Killer's Minor Totems by a whopping 4s/4% which could nearly render some of them useless (nearly).

Giving Survivors more BP for cleansing Totems and increasing the base cleanse time would be rather obvious changes to make for the new system, but overall this would allow more depth to be added to the choice of perks Survivors and Killers take on their journey while also allowing for games to last longer and make use of what's already there. It would be a rather massive overhaul but one potentially worth it.

"rather new player" and "rank 3" yeah its one of the biggest problems of DBD, you rank up too fast.
I highly doubt that the devs will ever do such insane changes like reworking all hex perks at once, they are taking a lot of time to even change single perks like DS/SC.

Its probably more likely that we get additional objectives like the flowers from the event

You mean it shouldn't take 3 weeks of playing to hit rank 3? lol. I only play Wraith and am not that good yet, so I'm constantly being ravaged by top tier Survivors. I wish the matchmaking was a bit better and that it didn't boost me so far up so fast, but I'm doing my best to adapt to their playstyle and stuff.. Either way, the Halloween event was my first experience with the game and it added time to matches that helped me win (maybe that's why I'm at rank 3), without it I find the balance to favour the Survivors more but again that could just be due to my lack of experience and skill.
