The Cannibal, The Clown & The Deathslinger add-ons

Yesterday, I made a post about The Cannibal and his 2 add-ons that were, quite frankly, not making sense as the two had the same effect but one cost more bloodpoints than the other. But as the discussion goes on, it wasn't just The Cannibal having these problems, it's also The Clown and The Deathslinger with 2 add-ons having the same duration or almost identical effects but through another method.

The Cannibal

The Grease

Long Guide Bar

The Long Guide Bar got buffed to +2 seconds from +1 second, meaning that there is no need for you to waste 1000 bloodpoints on The Grease unless you want to combine them.

These add-ons were different before the rework.

The Clown

Solvent Jug

Garish Make-up Kit

The same as The Cannibal only this one is a purple add-on.

These add-ons had different effects before the 4.5.0 rework.

The Deathslinger

Rusted Spike

Honey Locust Thorn

So, the green add-on can only be afflicted if the survivor frees from your harpoon while the yellow add-on cause the mangled status effect on hit. Which one would you pick? Yes, definitely the yellow add-on.

What I'm trying to point out is that before the rework, most of these add-ons actually did something cool and nice but now it's changed to somewhat lazy and generic, and both of these add-ons has the same number value expect for bloodpoint cost. As for The Deathslinger add-ons... yeah, I don't know why this green add-on still exist.

It never ceases to amaze me.

Are we sure the in game values are the same and it's not just a text issue?

I don't know why a Bubba player would use the rev addons outside of a meme.

There is one possible use for duplicate add-ons - they stack. You can't equip the same add-on twice, but you can equip two different add-ons that have identical effects and they will add together. So if Clown for instance equips both the add-ons above his Invigoration will last +4 extra seconds. I don't know if that's the reason they kept them both in the game for Clown and Bubba, but either way you can use them both at the same time and get double the benefit.

That doesn't explain Deathslinger's two add-ons though since they both just make targets Mangled until they heal. I have no idea why those two Mangled add-ons are in the game simultaneously.

I'm suprised they didn't nerf the chilis because people tended to use them over other add ons. I give it 6 months. They're bound to do something stupid like that if they can't even be bothered to noticed some changes are the exact values of existing add ons.

In regards to the Deathslinger green addon, they could just make it apply Mangled with a hit and snapping a chain. Suddenly it’s an addon players would use.

5.5.0 has yet to be live so the values are from the PTB but the text is correct.

It could be used for the Light Chasis, so you can rev your chainsaw around places and look for survivors which are really good for indoor maps or you want to scare them away and be ready to use your chainsaw at your command.

You mean freeing themselves from the chain or if someone stands between them that someone gets mangled as well? Because the survivor who got hit by his gun will get the mangled effect regardless if he snapped out of his chain or not.

Just to be clear for anyone else reading this, the rare Deathslinger add on "Honey Locust Thorn" only applies mangled when a survivor breaks free of the chain, not on hits. Currently, the uncommon add on "Rusted Spike" applies mangled on hits after reeling a player in. My suggestion is for HLT to have the effect of current HLT and RS.

Didn't they use data to nerf some of the add-ons because it was mostly used by the killers?

Not really how that works. They look at the average end result of those add-ons. If all add-ons give a killer a 65% winrate on average, and survivors on average escape 35%, then either the killer or the add-ons are overtuned.

You might be like "but that is using statistics wrong", when, it really isn't. There are only 3 things you can do if the statistics go that way:

    1. Make maps more survivor sided, which will apply to all killers.

    2. Nerf the add-ons or the killer, which are gonna make those killer mains lash out.

    3. Buff survivor basekit, which applies to all killers.

The reverse would apply if the killer would be underperforming.

What would you be in favour of in this scenario? How would you make the overall end results more fair(aka, on average closer to a 50% killrate), without pointing out the obvious? If Nemesis wins about 43% of his games with Shattered STARS badge, but 62% with Marvin's Blood. Why would you not nerf Marvin's Blood? Why would you not buff the STARS badge? "Because it's his only good add-on?" Well, sometimes good things have to be nerfed for the long term health of the game. The kind of backlash that people give on add-ons, is exactly why perks like DH, Ruin, Pop and Circle are left untouched for so long. Even though all these perks force other perks to either join the powercreep, or into obscurity.

Do you want the Devs to nerf survivor meta? Then also be willing for Devs to nerf killer meta.

It’s not just the fact that good addons are being nerfed that’s annoying. I mean yeah that’s part of it, but the issue is the devs don’t try to look any deeper than just statistics. The reason those addons get used so much is not just because they’re strong, it’s because everything else kinda sucks ass. And some minor buffs to contenders for the worst iri’s in the game isn’t enough.

Also if we wanna talk about meta we can’t just gloss over the fact that blights ring didn’t get touched at all.
