Difference to Boon radii
I always say this but never posted it as a suggestion and thus here it is:
In order to balance Boons make their radii different.
Boon totems are a fun mechanic for me. I enjoy them as a survivor and I like the concept as a Killer. Most times people complain about "Boons" they only complain about one (Cycle of Healing) and are indifferent to the other two.
A point most people overlook is that the power of a Boon massively depends on its radius. This can make or break those perks and is a very smooth way to buff or nerf certain Boons into proportion. For this let me make a quick example: "Boon: Shadowstep".
If "Boon: Shadowstep" had only 16 meters of radius it would serve little to no purpose. Killers could see the survivors in the radius and follow them with ease while also taking notice of the Boon very quick to snuff it. With 40 meters "Boon: Shadowstep" would be grossly overpowered as it would cover a huge area of the map and leave the Killer little to no indicator to find the Boon.
This is why I suggest the following values for out existing Boons:
- Boon: Cycle of Healing: Reduce the radius to 16 meters.
- Boon: Shadowstep: Keep the radius it is fine.
- Boon: Exponential: Buff the radius to 30 meters, it is too weak.
Future Boons should consider this too with their power. Let me give two examples:
- Boon: Know your friends: Lets you see the aura of all other survivors in the radius. Radius: 32 meters.
- Boon: Know your enemy: Lets you see the aura of the Killer within 20 meters.
As you see, one would be grossly overpowered if it had the radius of the other. However this could also serve as a screw for the developers to tune their perks. When one underperformes the radius could be buffed before the effect gets any change at all, when one overperformes the radius can be nerfed.

While this isn't a terrible idea, I think the reason that isn't the way it is right now is because it'd be kind of unintuitive and difficult to gauge from the survivor side where a specific effect is active if you're bringing more than one boon totem perk at the same time.
That's not to say this is unworkable, I just think the UI would also have to be tweaked, either to show a series of borders in the overlay or just have more of a specific icon for which boon is affecting you at any given moment.

This could be solved by only taking the lowered radius into consideration, discouraging "rainbow-boons" and the resulting problems from happening in the first place. Depending on what Boons might appear in the future stacking effects could very much become an issue.
However Icons would also be workable: Think about how the games shows you "We'll make it" as an icon.

alternatively, it can use the largest boon to encourage synergy and picking perks other than DH DS BT and 1 boon

Depends on your goal as a developer I guess.
You could use this technique on purpose to encourage a weaker Boon as a "medium" for a stronger effect. As the survivor would surrender two perk slots and the thingy can still get snuffed this is indeed a thing you could consider.
Still an argument to add different radii.

I like the idea, but really only CoH is a big problem, despite my inability to chase through Shadowstep. I'm crossing my fingers for them making CoH heal at Self-Care speeds.

Honestly yeah. I think CoH should heal at Self-Care speed, but have bigger great skill checks and reveal healing Survivors' auras to their teammates to get the full benefit of the healing boost. So it's actually a place people go to reset instead of just healing yourself instantly.

Doesn’t the HUD show what buffs you’re getting on the right side?

I don't play that much survivor- my understanding is that it'd show you which boon it is when you first step in, but after that it's just a single "bless" icon, like the "cursed" icon for a hex?

I honestly don’t know, I only really play killer. If all it shows is a Bless icon though that’s not enough info for a solo survivor, they’d have no idea which Boon it is they’re inside of.

It definitely shows you which boon is active when you first step in there, I've noticed that much. It's just that after that, much like the initial Hex notification, it becomes a single icon after the name of the perk fades out.
I think, anyway. Even when I play survivor most players just bring CoH lmao

Lol, well yeah, currently odds are really good it’s CoH. 😄 But in principle if more Boons were used more often than just that then just saying “Blessed” isn’t enough info.

This isn't that bad of an idea, but it does feel like it is overcomplicating the whole boon situation. Personally, the reason the other boons seem bad and CoH is OP is because CoH is grossly overtuned. Healing has always been busted, now even more so. Nerf CoH or just healing in general, and then leave the other boons as is. They are all definitely strong, but CoH is WAY to strong compared to the strength of the others.
