A Way to make Dead by Daylight ACTUALLY Immersive
Hello everyone. I'm going to keep this post sweet and concise.
As many of us realize some maps are not scary (or horror enough) as a result of being too bright (think Coldwind Farm, Ormond, or Autohaven), I think I have a solid idea to remedy that.
Simply put: Dynamic Sky Lighting.
Essentially, when playing on a map, the daytime condition will be randomized and can either be daytime, noon, evening, or night.
I believe this would make realms feel unique every time one is played and gives them a sense of extra randomization that has the ability to better immerse players within the game.
This would not be like the early stages of the DbD with Moonlight offerings, but would instead be dev controlled Sky lighting so the game is still fair for both sides, but more immersive.
Imagine Grave of Glenvale, Coldwind, or Red Forest with a Léry's or RPD reminiscent Sky lighting. Or, Imagine Léry's, Haddonfield, or Backwater Swamp during the daytime. Or imagine any map at dusk, right in between day and night.
And the list of possibilities goes on. I feel this is a change that shouldn't even be difficult to implement within the game as the devs would just need to allow all the realms and maps to be able to have randomized points of daytime to offer new lighting experiences and a way to greatly increase the depth and quality of life of this game.
Honestly, I'm surprised this isn't already implemented into the game.
What do you all think?
(PS Before anyone says "oh this is not important, dEvS sHoUlD fIx ThE gAmE", the amount of time and effort put into all the cosmetics coming out can just as easily add this extra depth to the maps in this game).

Port it to VR

At first I'd think that would make it look like an fps lol. But I guess third person vr is possible.
You didn't agree oflr disagree with my post though 😐

3rd person VR would likely be very motion sickening, it would have to be 1rst person

The issue is lighting is a sensitive issue for killers. Ever try to track a yellow cosmetic character through coldwimd corn as nurse or hag?
I like your idea but the maps as they exist, and the killer tools needed to find more immersive survivors are lacking.

I don’t think haddonfield works at day time imo

And many argue Coldwind would look better at night. The point is to have the option. If implemented, Haddonfield could have day, evening and night ambience which is something we've never had.

I really like the dynamic light setting. Wish we had it but doubt it will be implemented.

Yes, would be great.
Dynamic would make it even a bit more varied. I also would like more fog or a scarier mood sometimes.
I like the rain in the forest.
I have to say that i like Ormond with the windy snow now.

I think what should be done is make the game night time for survivors, but day time for killers. Killers get better visibility in the area they can see, but survivors get worse visibility but over a much wider area.
Also making the red stain less visible across the map, and maybe thickening the fog on the more open maps might be worth considering.

That would kinds get stale don't you think. My idea was just to give each Map variation so that they're not the same each time with the ambience.

Different wheather would be really cool.

I've been hung on the idea of a progressive lighting as the match goes. Starts at night and gates open by daylight

I like this idea. Maybe even a new game mode that implements a more immersive, non-competitive, scarier style if gameplay.
The devs said they are open ti new game modes. I really hope they are reading this discussion because it's a great idea. Some people just want to play a horror game for just that... Horror. I'm one of those people, and right now, the game isn't scary.

weather would definitely be a good addition. already rains and snows in a few maps, don't see why that can't be expanded to others. does seem like they're trying to make maps a bit more unique though, each one has a new intro sound in the ptb iirc which is cool

A game mode with no perks and addons. That would be scary again.
The idea that dawn breaks when the doors are opened is also nice.

I mean it's a horror game, or supposed to be.

No UI would make a nice gamemode for me. Call it "Hardcore" or "Nightmare" and don't allow any items / addons aswell.
Ppl would know pretty quick most killers will just camp, so survs doing gens anyway.
Only problem here are survs on comms, obv. Not gonna happen. Splitting the playerbase is also very risky (queue times).

Immersion is probably one of the most hated things among this playerbase. Immersion usually means people not working efficiently on the win condition and just walking or crouching somewhere hiding. As for varied map lighting and effects this is probably an issue more to do with maintaining a mostly playable game on the largest amount of hardware possible. DBD is on every console as well as pc and this game isn't the most optimized behind the scenes.
Console can struggle with performance issues with just the current design we have now and pc still needs to be considerate of older or lower tier hardware constraints to a degree. A lot of the game's actual balance also involves control or lack thereof over visuals on the player side. They definitely have a mechanical and artistic aesthetic they want the game to present.
