Let players chose their own mmr constraints

It just doesn't come to me why should I be punished facing people way out of my league just because they've been waiting long in queue.

I mean that MMR (from what I understood) plays on two variables, the first one being "how much should we be strict about finding other players near this MMR value" and the second one being "after how long should we loosen up said strictness".

I know that MMR is being worked on but would it be so wild to leave players have the two sliders that change mmr? Like let me decide if I am going to face people out of my skill level just because either of us has been waiting a while, let me decide if I am to wait more for a more interesting match rather than under 10 seconds for a dreadful one.

The problem is that different players have different priorities, some people prefer faster queues while others (like me) are fine even if queues are longer than a match as long as it's not a clicky clicky hellfeast.

What do you forum people think?

Just to clarify, from the dev description the matching happens if either someone else is in your current MMR range or you are in someone else's MMR range. So if you are 1500 and I'm 1700, and my current range is +/- 200, then I can be matched with you even if your current range is +/- 50. They said one of the tests they did was forcing the matchmaking to only happen if both people were in each other's current ranges, but the queue times were so ridiculously slow when they did that they pretty much immediately abandoned that idea. (You might be willing to wait a couple of minutes, but you're probably not willing to wait 15 minutes like they said it was taking some people.)

Now all that said, in principle I don't see anything wrong with the idea of having an option you can set where you tell the matchmaking "I'm ok waiting longer for closer matches". It would presumably just slow down the rate at which your range you're looking for expands. It wouldn't prevent other people with wider ranges from pulling you into their match but it would mitigate you pulling in someone else into your match who has a wide gap in MMR from your own.

So lets say max MMR is 2000, which represents the top 5% of the best players. MMR reaches down by 250 points iirc. So that means a top player can be matched with a 1750mmr player, still a very good player. Even in lower endings lets say you are 1000, you can meat less good people or better people between 1250-750mmr. Its not really that big of a jump.

I think the main problem is that some people are not sitting at the MMR they should be at. Lets say lower MMR survivors end up being basement fodder for a bubba, that bubba is gonna earn some mileage and prolly end up being in like 1750ish MMR, however now he can meet the top survivors, and if he does meet them, he prolly isn't gonna have a very fun time. This is an extreme case, but I do think it happens more often than not.
