Add lobby leave penalty
If it messes up matchmaking then please add some penalty.
Update: A max ping setting should be added, so that you can limit the servers you can connect to.

It would be an idea.
I know that I dodge a lot of lobbies specifically because of this issue. If I arrive in a 'ready' lobby, it's going to be a weird game so I just let someone else take that bullet.
That said - yeah, when I queue into 4x TTVs with names like 'smurfmakeucry' 'supersmurf' 'ultratoxicsmurf' and 'uninstallnub' - I'm dodging no matter the penalty.

I'm not sure a penalty is the way to go, but I'm glad peeps are realizing the lobby dodging is messing with the MMR system badly, and are starting to talk about it.

I'm down for it with one caveat: There's gotta be a way for people to avoid being stuck in a match with someone with a horrific connection.

Yeah, I've had to leave a bunch of lobbies recently because the ping was bad. That's not my fault the ping sucks, and there's no way anyone thinks I should go into a match if I know beforehand the connection is going to be bad.

Why?
Even if matchmaking were perfect, there's no reason killers or survivors shouldn't be able to back out of a lobby if they feel like it. Odds are if someone's willing to wait extra to avoid playing with a certain group, they have a good reason.

If matchmaking would be perfect then sure, let them lobby dodge.
But the matchmaking is unfortunately not perfect. If somebody lobby dodges the new player is selected based on speed, not based on matchmaking quality.
Therefore until that is not fixed, there should be some penalty to discourage lobby dodging.

If you punish people for leaving a lobby then you potentially reduce the killer pool even more. You do not want that.

Because, as it stands, dodging a lobby makes the SBMM system poop itself. If that can be fixed, then problem solved.

Lobby dodging killers are punishing other killers, maybe without even realizing it.
Also there are lobby dodging survivors, who just leave for some random reason.

No. Literally never dogded a lobby in my time playing DBD. I do quite regularly leave a lobby because the ping is terrible, or more rarely if I forgot to select a challenge. Also sometimes something happens in real life, like someone at your door, your phone ringing or whatever where you leave the lobby so you're not afk.
There's many reasons as to why someone would leave a lobby that aren't dodging, and I'm not eating a penalty because of them lol, not my fault the ping is bad.

Oh god what a terrible idea.
Lobby dodging is how you see if you want to play a game. If you load in and there's a super toxic player you've just faced, or the ping is too high, you can dodge and wait for another game, instead of disconnecting in the trial and ruining 4 other people's games and pushing them back into queue, which will be an even longer wait time.
This may be a novel concept, but instead of punishing people for not wanting to play a game and acting on this before it can cause any real damage, we instead fix the ######### matchmaking.

i dont think that is a good idea for the same reason i am against removing the usernames from the lobby and i am all for showing the killers user name and also the ping of all users. i think every one should be able to see if they face a sqadd with matching names or a ttv and decide if they want to face it and i actually check my opponents steam profile and if i see some lvl 1 private profile i am out because i have faced enough cheaters

But if i try to play hag (which i cant change in the lobby anymore) and see a squad with 3-4 flashlights, which can negate my whole power, i might want to dodge with that killer, while another killer simply might put on lightborn and deal with them.

Since the Survivors dont get kicked out of the Lobby anymore, there is no reason for that. Before, I would have agreed, but now I am against it.
While it is true that another less-skilled Killer might join and have a harder game due to how Matchmaking works, this is a Matchmaking Issue and not an issue with the Lobby.

The moment I see three flashlights I leave, especially if they are clearly running some crazy meta stuff. Not all my killers have Lightborn. Hell, I put ten levels into my Plague today and I didn’t get any good perks. The only time I don’t care is if I have Doc or Pyramid Head. Since I have meta counters on both of them.

You can not dodge for free by increasing the ping after joining the lobby. Ping check is done only before you actually join the lobby.

I am not punishing players. I am punishing lobby dodgers. Yes, ideally the matchmaking should be fixed, but until then we need a workaround.
And btw lobby dodgers are actually punishing other players right now: the other players in the lobby, and also the player who is added as a replacement.

It wouldn't cause significant AFK... Survivors often dodge because of some random reasons, killers on the other hand pussy out if they see 4 survivors from the same platform.

Not sure if it is worth replying to you, because you probably won't understand what I write.
You set a max ping, which limits the severs you can connect to. Trying to play with your internet connection to artificially increase ping will not disconnect you or give you a free dodge.

I can't explain why survivors dodge.
And I noticed that killers dodge more often if survivors are all from the same platform.

I´m totally chill. Having a penalty would result in people just afking on both sides to prevent the penalty.
The system assigns you a new player in no time. So there really isn´t a reason to implement penalties. Its not like disconnecting during the match. What ruins the match for the rest of the players.

The system assigns a new player in no time, because the system focuses on speed instead of quality. MMR is not really taken into account when focusing on speed. So you get a worse matchmaking and as a result a less fun game. It is a problem because the matchmaking quality goes down, not because you have to wait some extra time.

Fair point, however, I don't think a penalty is the way to go. The main reason I dodge lobbies is when I suspect a player might be a cheater/using exploits, and sadly I've come across a lot of sus players/hackers. Another obvious one is bad ping.

Yeah i got that. But you do realize, that the overall queue times would go up with that penalty, yes? And that people would be afk during the match. Which both would be a worse gameplay experience than getting tossed into a match with someone out of your mmr range.

If you see that killer/surv dodged your lobby and you think it will ruin your game, how about... you leave the lobby yourself and start to look for the game again?
And other people can do the same if they want.

Yes, I often do that. But it is a bit worse if the queue times are 10 minute... Then because of a dodger I need to enter another 10 minute queue.
Also often it is hard or impossible to notice the other situation, when you are the replacement player in the lobby.

I am basing this on the fact that in my opinion people dodge lobbies for weird unrealistic reasons.

If you dodge a lobby based on the characters you see in it there’s no “good reason” for it.

If you think that this wouldn´t affect queues/afk players, because there are not enough people that lobby dodge. Then there are also not enough people lobby dodging, to justify this penalty in the first place.
A penalty to lobby dodging comes always up, when the queues for one side get longer. Current mmr system solved this.

No, there's plenty of reasons to dodge a lobby. Adding a penalty to the lobby before the match has even started is completely unnecessary. If it has an impact on matchmaking they should fix matchmaking not give players penalties which would only encourage the players to not play DBD at all.
As killer I'll leave lobbies if I already played v a survivor in one of my last couple of games. I personally don't like facing the same killer players back to back (or only a match or two apart) so when I'm killer I leave since I would hope a killer in my situation would do the same.
As survivor if I'm playing swf and something happens where my swf teammate didn't enter the lobby with me I back out to try again. If I'm playing with swf teammate I'm not just going to play a match without him because there was a glitch where he didn't come to the lobby with me.

Most are dodging for weird unrealistic reasons, e.g. this cosmetic is very bright and flashy, must be a toxic player. But if they could not dodge they would just simply play the match. That's why it would not significantly add afk players.

No. They should just fix matchmaking. People leave lobbies for all kinds of reasons. I leave them if I have to run and get the door, laundry is done, cat knocked over something, I get a phone call, ect. Nobody should be penalized for leaving the lobby. It's far better than leaving the game.
