Dredge's Nightfall effect is just too much
I know that it's his power surge, similar to how Oni has his blood rage, but the effect is so bad I have to strain my eyes and get closer to my screen to see.
I have vision issues as it is and playing against The Dredge is an absolute nightmare, which is such a shame because outside of Nightfall he's fun to play against.
I don't want Dredge to get nerfed, he's strong but feels fair, but being nearly blind during the Nightfall feels awful and is bad design. I would just like a QoL change so it's not so overwhelming. I know that there are other players having the same issue.

Unless you memorise the whole map, if you exit a loop there is a high chance that couple of steps from the loop you exit you 360 around you and see nothing but darkness,
also you could be running into the edge of the map into the wall very soon..

I can definitely understand this sentiment, I think the problem is BHVR has to walk a very fine line here, as brightening it too much will make it PTB levels of bad again.
6 -
This is largely why I give up against the dredge it's genuinely unplayable because of the way the ambient noises play and the vision of nightfall both causing me headaches

Define: "PTB levels of bad"

I as a survivor not in chase, am able to see a bright white glowing blob from across the map
2 -
Are you on console? I don't find it especially bad.
1 -
If you mean the Dredge, that is pretty interesting,
because if I were to figure out that, it would have maximum range where you can see the killer's aura, instead of it being global range
0 -
No, I'm on PC.
0 -
Yeah I wouldn't want it to be reverted to PTB, it would massively nerf his power. I just hope they can find a good middle ground where they can make visibility a little better but keep his power just as strong.
1 -
That would be a pretty good change!

I say make it darker but cut the time in half. It's not scary, it just gets annoying, especially if its a slower match and it triggers 4-5 times.
0 -
Not to mention making it darker just makes the original issue even worse, on top of this suggested change being a major nerf to his power.

I'm on console and I find it ridiculously difficult to play when its Nightfall power happens. Unless you're running WoO, it's really difficult to see any safe parts of the map and you completely lose all sense of direction/geography of the map. Not to mention the overwhelming and noisy sound effects which make it nearly impossible to determine where the Dredge is/what directions it's coming from. It's basically a minute of free hits/easy downs, which in itself is okay and its the main power of the killer, but I wish it was a little more counterable as a survivor.
3 -
I think it would be good if they made everything out of range completely dark (except the auras around players), but the stuff in range could be much brighter so it doesn't cause eye strain. The whole point is supposed to be that survivors can't see in the distance.
1 -
I think the concept is awesome and gives you jump scares the only problem is even on max brightness my screen is still dark its just that way stock so literally cant see anything on my screen when nightfall hit like literally not even a gen if its in front of me.
2 -
Yknow, they could just remove the darkened screen overall and change up nightfall and how it works from there. This isn’t the first time people have been complaining about screen effects, especially unnecessary ones
3 -
The mechanic becomes useless, you can see forever and it barely changes anything.
Either the mechanic blocks your vision, or it doesn't.

Even on dark maps I have yet to be impaired.

The first time I went against dredge it was difficult at first but now I've p had a chance to play against him more and I've gotten used to it. I like the dredge and how his power works so if they do need to change him for him to be more accessible I hope they don't butcher him like they have before (thinks of deathslinger)

i think it's a fair critique, as someone who also suffers from eye strain frequently
i think the ~20m visibility radius could remain just as small as it is, but the area that you can see around you could be brightened up and have that weird layer of film over it removed (I hope you know what I'm talking about, it makes nightfall look ugly and hard to look at in some maps)
that way, you still can't see anything past ~20 meters (or less if they felt like buffing it slightly), but you're not getting headaches from struggling to see within the radius that you're supposed to be seeing in. not a nerf, just QOL.
i really do hate that ugly layer of film over everything around you tho, i think that contributes a lot to how bad it is to look at

I don't know, I'm fine with it personally. (I also have minor vision problems)
I do agree the screams could be a little quieter.
1 -
I am guessing the problem isn't the limited distance you can see right? It's the fact that you can't really see well within the range you are supposed to see?
Cause I really hope they fix this problem for people like you. I think newer players also struggle because of this a bit too much. The problem is that Nightfall still darkens the lighting even within the radius that you are supposed to see in, and on maps that are already rather dark, this can cause issues. And then there is the annoying vignette effect that darkens the edges of the screen, which also should be toned down or just removed completely. I think the latter might be the biggest problem with Nightfall at the moment.
1 -
They just need to improve the lighting and vision within the visibility range. The range itself doesn't need to be increased, I am pretty sure, so the intended effect would still stay the same.
They should start by reducing or removing the vignette effect that darkens the edges of the screen.

It's tricky, but honestly - I find playing on Autohaven and Midwich at times to be similarly annoying.
That all said, flashlight macros give me IRL migraines.
1 -
Accessibility is not a skill issue though. 🙄 Good for you that you don't have a disability (yet) though.
3 -
Migraines aren't skill related, a game mechanic that causes physical pain in a significant number of players is simply bad game design... Most likely an oversight
1 -
I didn't know my poor vision was a skill issue. Sorry.

Maybe I'm weird but I don't mind his nightfall at all, what I hate is his anti loop, I don't know why he need such a strong anti loop with his insane teleporting and map pressure, basically there are zero reasons to play sadako now (or any other m1 killer btw), he's just better in every way
0 -
Dredge is fine. If nightfall is giving you headaches/migraines then stop playing videogame's and see a doctor.
0 -
So the multiple people in this thread that have already stated they get headaches/migraines from Nightfall should stop playing? Maybe Nightfall is just poorly designed and needs to be looked at from a visual and audio standpoint to be less overwhelming?

it's fun, but it lasts WAY too long, should be shorter in time and in rechsrge time too

I have yet to have a problem seeing in nightfall and I have incredibly bad vision
