Introduced a new player to the game today.
They played 5 games and got camped on every hook, so they've already uninstalled. I don't think camping hook needs making any weaker - I think killer needs making way stronger, and campers just need actually banning.

The patch in PTB starting today will deal with one of those things.

The patch in PTB makes camping actively stronger though, so I don't think it's going to help much.
Have we explored options like just drawing a 15 meter circle around the hook and not actually letting the killer inside it? You'd have to make sure hooks didn't spawn next to gens or doorways but goddam this is such a massive problem that needed solving years ago.

That's what the devs are trying to do - buffing killers so it it feels like less of a necessity to camp (or tunnel), rather than punishing it. The vast majority of killers will do it significantly less (after a bit of adjusting) and only the ones who want to camp (or tunnel) right off the bat will do it.
As for banning, nah. If they start punishing killers, they'll have to punish stuff survivors do as well, and that's a whole other mess nobody wants.

I was referring to the "killer needs making way stronger," part.
The tricky part with punishing camping is it can, in some situations, be the right move to make. So how do you punish the ones who use it as their only move without catching the ones who use it only occasionally/as needed in the crossfire?

That's unfortunately wishful thinking. There's no honor code that makes people play against the path of least resistance to a win. We've already been through this in Deathgarden. First with insta execution and the hardcore camptunneling. The devs (BHVR) literally refused to address the issue at first and literally said that they just advised against playing like that, because it would net fewer bp (incentive that failed). Turns out every hunter didn't give a darn because they could simply win. It's human nature. Eventually, the issue were addressed because it was unavoidable. Only a little to late.
As for the banning part requested by OP, that would be preposterous and unenforceable anyway.

That's why I figure the intent behind the Endurance/Haste on unhook is to make Tunneling the less useful play, though he doesn't help with camping unless the survivors can avoid a hook trade.

In every online multiplayer game you're gonna have bad matches, or string of bad matches. That's just video games. If your friend didn't enjoy their five games cuz they didn't win it's unlikely they'd enjoy subsequent ones as well.

I'm more forgiving here because it's less 5 losses and more 5 very frustrating losses due to camping.

This is just not going to happen. You can make killers ten times stronger and they'll still camp. Camping has nothing to do with how strong the killer is but exists because toxic players want to make other players lives miserable. If anything, it should be removed because it enables toxicity.

bro way to ez, if you dont wanna get camped just play better is not that hard lol and if they are new to the game, they should learn the game sense and listen more to people that gives them tips instead of camping pallets.

I think you're oversimplifying things. Sure there ARE those types of killers who do it for toxcicity. But that doesn't necessarily mean it's a majority. Actually giving killers other ways to play would be the best way to see how many are doing it because it's the best/only option and how many are doing it because they want to ruin other people's day. It could drastically decrease the amount of camping killers which would help prevent situations like the one describes in this discussion.

why would you introduce someone to this??

There's a huge difference between losing but actually getting to play, and just sitting on a hook while you get facecamped for 2 minutes.
