Vecna's Curse: Freddy Had Good Ideas Actually

THIS THREAD CONTAINS DISCUSSION AND MINOR SPOILERS REGARDING STRANGER THINGS SEASON 4 (part 1)

So, with rumors about Stranger Things returning and the possibility of Vecna as a killer, I wanted to bring up how Vecna's abilities could translate to the game and how Freddy's original power concept is both thematically appropriate and cool. I want to present a general framework and see what kind of stuff we can come up with.

VECNA'S CURSE

Vecna targets a survivor and presses the Active Power button. After channeling briefly, the survivor is put into a deep trance and their consciousness is transported to the Upside Down. While in the Upside Down, the survivor's consciousness is invisible to all other survivors (though their body remains where it was, highlighted by an aura). While separated from their bodies, survivors may not interact with generators or totems. Pallets in the environment spawn as illusory pallets, able to be used by anyone in the Upside Down - but any pallets used or destroyed in the Upside Down are also used or destroyed in the physical world. Only one survivor may suffer from Vecna's Curse at a time.

Vecna is only present in the Upside Down. He cannot interact with anyone not trapped in the Upside Down and cannot be seen by survivors in the real world. Vecna can harm survivors who are trapped in the Upside Down. Once they are put in the Dying State they can be lifted in Vecna's grasp and can be Consumed. This process takes roughly the same amount of time as a hook state, with an increased timer if the survivor completes a struggle minigame. At the end of each stage of consumption, the survivor is flung back to their body with a stack of Doom and cannot be affected by Vecna's Curse for a short time. A survivor with two stacks of Doom who is put into the Dying State in the Upside Down can be killed by Vecna in the Upside Down, causing their body to violent contort in the real world before being destroyed. Vecna cannot hook survivors normally because he doesn't play that Entity game.

Survivors who can evade Vecna in the Upside Down for a certain time (say, three minutes) snap out of their trance and are immune to Vecna's Curse for a duration after escaping. Alternatively, survivors who are not trapped in the Upside Down may search for a Walkman cassette tape player that spawns in the world when a survivor is cursed. By bringing it to the cursed survivor's physical body and playing it, they open a portal back to reality somewhere in the Upside Down. Vecna is stunned for a short time and if the cursed survivor reaches the portal they return to the real world, becoming immune to Vecna's Curse for an even longer period of time than if they had run out the timer.

That sounds decent, except for the "3 minutes" part. A killer who makes survivors regularly unable to do anything for 3 minutes would instantly become the strongest & most busted killer in the game.

Wow that sounds... even worse than old Freddy.

But i'm going to be honest - why do people like old Freddy's mechanic so much? It was so sluggish to play against and as him.
