A fair warning about upcoming changes
When mmr hit the online servers a lot of people started complaining that they are only brown ranks being matched against iri players. It had 0 impact on the matchmaking and yet enough people complained that now you can't see ranks in post game menu.
Now, my warning is: People will be complaining about prestige lvls in the same manner. "I'm prestige 0 and i got matched against a player with prestige 100" and even if this does not have definitive impact on games directly, it will have the exact same impact as if there was a time of someone playing overall in post game menu.
Now, i agree that there should be on the place of this icon, but i would prefer if it was like forum avatars and prestige lvl could be shown somewhere else, maybe connect game with forum (if there is no such option already) so people could brag about it here or something.

If you're prestige 0 and you're playing against people who are prestige 100, they objectively have spent way more time playing the game than you.
Even if they're not great at the game, they have a monumental advantage over the newer player. And you SHOULD complain if you get matched up against people with thousands of hours in the game. Keeping the disparity secret doesn't mean the problem vanishes. It just obscures the reason behind the imbalance.

but that also might mean they are terrible at the game.
just because people play a lot doesn't mean they are good
personally i dont have a problem with it showing and i like it tbh, makes the lobby look nicer

I mean, I have a curse that I get found first and tunneled out most matches, so yea my MMR is really low. Yet I will have pretty high prestige pretty quickly on my main survivor, so yeah.

My prediction is hardly anybody will look at those Prestige numbers at all.

Perhaps I misunderstood. I thought the value next to their name was the total sum of all their prestige'd characters

BHVR is selling this as "you get to show off how much you love a character," but really showing players' prestige levels is meant to spark competition. Rather than grinding being simply functional, a way to get perks and add-ons and what not, grinding will now be a competitive sport in itself.
Yeah, showing prestige is going to see an increase in the number of people complaining about matchmaking, but BHVR decreased the required grind for perks so they think they need to get players invested in this huge new voluntary grind they've created. Because apparently grinding is the only thing DbD has and people will quit the moment they unlock all the perks. (That last bit was sarcasm.)
The majority of players don't use the forums, so showing prestige levels here instead of in the game would influence almost no one. The point is to get everyone addicted to caring about this meaningless number.
I hate that BHVR is insisting on showing prestige levels. I don't want to share mine, and I don't want to see others'.

Seems fallacious. Someone who only plays Feng can easily have her at Prestige 100 before I get the 30 survivors I play past Prestige 5 even if I play twice as much.
