Visionary discussion

Continuing a series of threads on the least picked perks on Nightlight, next up is Felix's perk Visionary (0.3% usage)

Visionary - You see generator's auras within 32 meters. Anytime a generator is completed, Visionary is disabled for 20/18/16 seconds.

Pretty simple perk. I'm just taking a stab in the dark, but if I had to guess why it doesn't see much use it might be because a lot of players just assume they can find the generators pretty easily and don't need an aura to help them. And that's very likely true for higher MMR players who know all the maps fairly well. That said, Visionary does probably help people who are a bit unfamiliar with a specific map find generators, and it also can help solo survivors who might in the chaos of being chased and such temporarily lose track of where the unfinished generators are when there's only 1 or 2 left to complete. Also an interesting side benefit of Visionary, as far as I know at least, is that if a generator is blocked by the Entity (e.g. Corrupt Intervention, Deadlock) then you can see the Entity's tendrils around the generator as part of its aura and know not to bother going there right away.

So I'm not even sure if this one needs a buff, but I guess if the devs did want to buff it to see it get more use they could simply remove or reduce that 16 second cooldown and/or increase the 32 meter range.

It’s a beginner perk which is locked behind a survivor you have to pay for. Genius. Even worse the generic perk Deja Vu is straight up better almost always and has the added bonus of preventing 3 gens.

Frankly I’d make Visionary a free perk or rename it and make it a free/generic perk and give Felix a new perk entirely.

If they must keep it the way it is, removing the restriction on the timer and make it so that it tracks the closest 2/3/4 generators and on top of that it shares this information with your team within 32 meters.

I'd increase the range and allow survivors to see the progress of generators through their aura. It still wouldn't be amazing but it'd be a lot more useful.

I think a slight cooldown would be necessary, since otherwise you won't be able to see the difference between a Deja Vu generator and Visionary generator. Increasing the range would honestly be not a bad idea, but removing the cooldown completely is.

Out of curiosity is there anybody that actually runs Deja Vu and Visionary simultaneously?

I think there is no saving grace for both dejavu and visionary. Both are useful only for beginners. Dejavu outclassing visionary in all aspects (speed boost, time when active/useful, which generators are highlighted, free vs behind paywall). The perk could only see some usage only if there would be a lot of new players AND the perk would be free.

Or if it got separate new effect (making current effect side effect, not the main idea behind the perk)

Perhaps there are some, or at least people who do this because it was in their perk randomizer. But like you indirectly said, there's almost noone running this combo. Alternative, the cooldown could be removed completely from Visionary and the aura reveal from Deja Vu could be in a different color.

i don't agree. I would make the perk grant the ability to see skill-check dial in the future. for example, if a skill-check is 9 o clock, the visionary would have the number 9 on it when you work on a generator.

I also thought about the perk showing chest item when hovering over a chest before opening it and showing the totem's true identity. for example if it perk is haunted grounds, you will see haunted ground icon when going to cleanse it. the teammate will also see the icon if she attempts to cleanse it if you interacted with the totem.
