Grim Embrace discussion
Continuing a series of threads on the least picked perks according to Nightlight, next up is The Artist's Grim Embrace (0.52% usage)
Grim Embrace - Each time a Survivor is hooked for the first time, you gain a token. Upon reaching 4 tokens Grim Embrace activates. The Entity blocks all generators for 30/35/40 seconds. The Obsession's aura is revealed to you for 5 seconds. You can only be obsessed with one Survivor at a time.
In principle blocking all the generators for a while is a solid effect since it's effectively extending the clock by however long all the gens are blocked. Time is, after all, on the killer's side.
There are two issues with Grim Embrace though that I think are keeping it from catching on.
- It takes a long time to trigger, and unless you're already doing well as the killer you might not even ever trigger it at all! For instance, if you're in a close match or losing, it's possible you just never get a chance to hook a particular survivor the entire match, and if that happens this perk is completely wasted. So this perk is on the verge of being a "win more" perk because it probably gives you a boost when you're in the lead but it might do nothing if you're behind.
- Even when the perk triggers, its effect isn't as significant as it probably should be given how hard it is to trigger it. For example, No Way Out effectively gives you 48 extra seconds to kill people in the match if you hook everybody once, and even if you only hook fewer survivors you still get a partial delay. In other words No Way Out lasts longer at full strength AND gives you partial benefits at partial strength. It's just clearly the better option if you're choosing between the two for delaying the game.
So I think Grim Embrace definitely needs a buff to at least bring it up to par with No Way Out in effectiveness. One possible way to do that would be, instead of making it all or nothing on four hooks, have it block the gens for 15 seconds every time you hook a survivor for the first time. Over the course of the match that would translate to at least 60 seconds extra time for the killer if all four survivors get hooked, but even if they're not at least you'll get 15 to 45 seconds to help a bit. (Also if the aura part of the perk triggered every time that could be a nice little buff to that as well.)

the main problem i have with these gen blocking perks is that they incentive camping the hook. Just look at current deadlock or old DMS Artist. I dislike playing against blocking gen perks as survivor. using them is fine, playing against them is not fun.

I think the effect should activate once the fourth survivor is unhooked.
This would allow to buff the numbers and avoid the camp.

my buff for it would be it "rancor bubbles" all the non hooked survivors when it activates (this makes starting a chase faster and gives you info even if you hook the obsession), and it activates with 4 hooks on anyone (so youll actually get value from the perk)

I think it could activate on the third token, that'd make it a lot better.

I think it should be able to activate twice (or also trice, but that won't do much) per match or its generator block should stay active for 40/50/60 seconds.
