Eruption is overtuned
This perk is the bane of solo-q survivors you are incapacitated for 25secs and the perk itself has a 30 second cooldown. Also you can proc it by downing someone by any means. The cool down is so short that by the time you down someone hook them and get to a gen it’s ready for to go.
i feel the cooldown needs to be longer or the incapacitated needs to be shorter
And even as killer this perk has won me games that I should not have because I held a 3 gen with eruption and SH:Pain Res as my only slow downs
and those games can go on for long time especially if the survivors have Boon:Circle Of Healing

Yea I hate going against Eruption. But as much as I hate that perk in solo que, I still feel like if we lose- it was more-so because of my teammates for either being inexperienced, making bad plays, ragequitting, or lack of effort. I need more games going against it when I consistently have competent teammates, to truly say if it’s a bit much. But because matchmaking is trash, I may never be able to make that determination.
1 -
The change i would make to eruption would be to block the gen for the 25 sec instead, being incapacitated like that sucks.
4 -
The very things people whine about Eruption for is exactly what it is meant to do.
7 -
Eruption, Call of the Brine and Pain Resonance are three perks almost every killer brings almost every game. The latter two are fine on their own, but Eruption makes the combo of all three so, so obnoxious to play against.
Eruption wins games for killers who may not deserve to win. It can carry that hard.
It will be nerfed eventually, but the devs are really, really slow at balancing perks even if urgent balance changes need to happen.
16 -
It feels a bit like the old DH situation, but in reverse.
Killers "nearly every one is bringing DH and it makes greeding palettes so easy. I have to run each loop 3-4 times. They can just doge to a vault and get away Scott free. Each time someone uses DH, I die a little bit inside."
Survivors "lol. DH is fine. Git gud. Learn to outplay it. If you cornered a survivor but they DHed away you didn't really outplay them. People over exaggerate DH impact greatly."
Then patch 6.1 dropped and the first day pulled the wool off everyone's eyes and the rug from under their feet.
Now it's
Survivors "Eruption is overtuned. It's in over half the matches I play. It had zero counterplay, even when I know that gen is kicked there is nothing I can do. Its so unfun to play against."
Killers "Lol the perk is fine. Git gud. Just let go of the gen. Do Bones. Slam gens. Bring a tool box. Touch grass."
Well, Eruption itself isn't carrying as hard as old DH, but there are some parallels.
I only use it sparingly and can mostly win without it. Don't lean and crutch too much on it, my fellow killers, for I too see the big nerf coming.
1 -
Saying it doesn't carry that much is a big stretch considering the current slowdown meta is as obnoxious and broken as old ruin undying - i mean pre nerf undying
It *does* carry games for horrible killer players
12 -
Did an eceleb make a rant video about Eruption recently or something? Past week there's been tons of threads screeching about it.
4 -
Saying it wins games the killer might lost is a bit far. That's what all or atleast most perks do I could say that survivor would not had escaped if he had no sb or adre
3 -
You can win it but it will take probably like an hour and soloQ teammates are not patient and smart enough to play that long without making mistakes. Once I had though hour long match without getting the win agains't 3 gen protecting nurse eventually she managed to get my teammates as they took risks. She did miss like 100 blinks so she did lot more mistakes than my teammates. Well if my teammates would played safe that ge would lasted as long as the match timelimit is.

Eruption is single handily making me play less and less survivor now. It's just so painfully boring to go against, especially as so many killers running it pick out their 3 gen right away and defend the hell out of it.
Feels like there's nothing I can do about it but more importantly it turns games into a boring slog.
15 -
doesnt make it a good thing
9 -
It makes it an intended thing.

By that logic, they should make head on cause the killer to be stunned for an extra 5 seconds longer than base pallet stuns.
Just because a perk is designed to do something, doesn't mean that the numbers are balanced. This game suffers way too much from balance decisions that are just 'double it' or 'cut it in half'. That mentality is why perks like ruin get dumpstered, and also why eruption is overtuned now with more than double the previous duration.
11 -
You can say the same thing about original Dead Hard. Didn't stop it being unfit in enough killers eyes for BHVR to change it.
8 -
still not a good thing
11 -
Original Dead Hard: Avoid a hit through timed E
New Dead Hard: Avoid a hit through timed E
Intent remains unchanged here.

Yup. It is. Eruption fills a unique purpose. It is the only perk in the game that can actually STOP a Survivor from progressing a generator by taking away their ability to work on one. Not just blocking a gen, but Incapacitation. That's a GREAT thing.
0 -
Or, you could just... not be on the gen when it blows and avoid its effects COMPLETELY.
0 -
I've been calling it a problem since it went live.
It's REALLY badly designed.
13 -
That's not realistic counterplay.
Same vein as "just wait out DH 4head"
17 -
Not everything needs "counterplay". The idea that EVERYTHING must have some way to weasel out of or around it is a weird notion in this game's community.
0 -
It stops you from doing anything for 25 seconds.
It kinda needs to have some sort of counterplay for having such a powerful ability,
17 -
I feel like things that one side has to put effort and work into, do not necessarily need counterplay. In fact, a lot of times that's brutally unfair for the person putting in the energy.
Eruption requires gen kicks, it needs someone to come back to a gen you already kicked it, then they have to be on said gen at the MOMENT of a chase down. That's a lot of steps and working parts compared to perks that work "just cause".
0 -
Really isnt, as it doesn't stop them from just doing gens but literally everything else. A Survivor has to literally run around and do nothing for 25 seconds, they cant heal, cant cleanse totems, cant even interact with certain things related to killer powers like Pigs boxes or Supply Cases.
Worst of all is it barely affects SWF as a person can simply call out when theyre about to get downed, and everyone on a gen can let go. It is possibly one of the most badly designed perks in the game, even more so than old Ruin. Because no matter how experienced you are, you can't know when some ones about to get downed unless you have line of sight of both the killer and survivor, or the killer has a map wide audio notification that theyre about to hit some one (Like Deathslinger or Pyramid Head)
Theres a reason why Incapacitated is unique to killer powers (only exception of course is Eruption) and thats because its a REALLY strong effect, and it activating with just kicking a gen is just plain dumb
10 -
If the worst part is it affecting SWFs less, then the solution is to give the affected generators an AoE incapacitate, or to change the perk to incapacitate anyone that had repaired an affected generator in the last X seconds.
1 -
It doesn't matter how many times you comment on the perk Eruption. Your view on the perk is just plain wrong.
Eruption is as unhealthy for the game as Undying was when it could take up to 5 totem cleanses to get both it and Ruin.
And yet you are suggesting making Eruption even stronger.
It is so far from what needs to be talked about in regards to this perk.
What you are suggesting is like saying Nurse should be given 4.4 or 4.6 movement speed with no nerfs - buffing an already OP thing to combat its one 'weakness'. You aren't fooling anyone.
10 -
This change wouldn’t affect solos, and would fix the complaints that SWFs aren’t affected as much by the perk. It would bridge the gap between solos and SWFs in a healthy way, which is by bringing down the power SWFs get with voice communications.
0 -
All it needs is to reduce the incapacitated time and increase the regression
4 -
Except it is decimating solos and carrying games hard for the killers who use it. Leaving Eruption in the state it is in is not an option.
I don't care what some people say about SWF being able to counter it. I have been playing this game for years, and it is easily in the top 10, maybe top 5 of most broken perks that have been released.
"nerfing swf" by nerfing a single perk is not a good idea. With your suggestion killers will continue to get wins carried by an overtuned perk. Not good.
5 -
You know, alternatively you could just pound out gens that haven't been kicked yet. it sounds like this is a problem for being that don't commit to getting a gen finished, or get themselves 3 genned.
0 -
or, the healthier option
get rid of the incapacitated effect because its just stupid not being able to do literally anything other than run around for 25 seconds
3 -
Eruption is healthy for the game, because it encourages killers to chase after survivors that immediately run away from all the unrepaired generators. Without eruption, killers are often encouraged to just let these survivors run away, and excessively defend their generators until a survivor messes up and is caught out of position.
0 -
We are literally in the gen kick meta.
Call of Brine, Overcharge and Eruption are all meta for a reason.
It would be one thing if Eruption only stopped gen progress for 25 seconds but it stops Survivors from doing ANYTHING.
8 -
People would just stay injured until eruption goes off, and heal with the generator is blocked. Eruption needs to block repairing and healing. It would be fine if eruption allowed survivors to still interact with totems though.
0 -
I learned this recently but Eruption won't allow you to pick up an item.
5 -
Can't wait for a survivor perk that takes away the killer's ability to attack for 25 seconds. It'll be a great thing, because it's unique and ill type it in caps.
11 -
"Eruption is healthy for the game"
Eruption is very likely the thing most damaging to game health right now.
Sorry you don't see that. Maybe play some survivor and you'll realize how badly this perk is damaging game health.
10 -
100% agree. There’s a reason this perk is so common - it’s very OP. The only counterplay is “you have to be in a 4-man SWF on comms”. It’s just no fun at all to go against in solo q
6 -
thats like saying "well just leave the Survivor and find some one else" when you downed a survivor in a corner with no hooks around.
Is it counterplay? Yes. Is it fun counterplay? No. Especially since running around doing nothing and holding M1 on a gen is probably the least fun things to do as Survivor. And at that point youre wasting time running around from gen to gen you might as well commit to the one youre on.
4 -
I can only speak for myself but I very rarely see that kind of thing happen. The vast majority of time as survivor when I go up against someone running Eruption is they chase you off the gen, kick it, then patrol the gens again. They basically just keep wandering to each gen to kick them until a survivor gets bored or greedy that they can easily take down, which then causes Eruption to go off and hamstring anyone trying to get the gen done.
6 -
Yup, that's what I see too.
Basically just setting up gen traps.
Pair that with Overcharge (which most people can't hit) and you've got a pretty oppressive build.
9 -
I'm still constantly dealing with dead hard, which still punishes me for daring to use a killer lunge, or daring to use many of the killer powers. Dead hard is still the most damaging to game health right now.
I'm not supposed to lunge or use many of my killer powers when the survivor is injured? How is that fair at all?
1 -
so you people say eruption is like a second chance perk that does stretch the round longer and gives a buffer to someone who would otherwise loose many progress?
Sounds familliar to so many survivor perks. CoH, DH, DS, Adrenaline, UB. All of which provide things that you wouldnt get away with if you hadnt equiped them.
Thats litteraly what perks are there for, giving advantage. And with proof and genrush meta no wonder almost every killer needs to bring eruption or call of brine or overcharge.
If we have such an issiue with gen regression perks we can add another 10 seconds basic to gens needing be completed, i wont touch soloQ anymore in that case but if that is what all of you players want. Clearly we cant just nerf the very perks that are needed for most killers because then survivor ques will be up to the stars.

It doesnt just stop those 3
It stops literally EVERYTHING else other than unhooking and opening the exit gate. Theres a reason why Incapacitated is only available to powers with the sole exception of Eruption, and thats because its a really strong effect. Theres a reason why Pain Res and Eruption is a banned combo in tourneys and thats because those 2 on a high mobility killer is just overkill
3 -
- Slowing Down or Regressing Hook Progression = camaraderie and reassurance
- Blocking Certain Hooks for x time = Saboteur and Breakdown
0 -
Tournaments are often so far removed from normal DBD play, that they aren't a good argument for game balance. Some of them even have this completely goofy hook point system, that doesn't represent DBD at all.
Besides, some tournaments also ban survivors from stacking certain perks. If we really wanted to emulate tournament rules, can we enforce those rules too?
1 -
Imagine there was a survivor perk that after every gen was completed you couldn't M1 for 25ish seconds.
Awful and basically uncounterable unless you're a full SWF, which every killer and their dog complains about.
8 -
So what worse Camping/ Tunneling or Eruption... these are some of the most complained about things
Cause Eruption needs to be applied to each Gen... Which means no Camping
How many times do you get caught by Eruption per match?
This is an asym game... why are people calling for a Survivor perk that does the same thing as a Killer perk?
No we don't need another Gen blocking perk... but yes do something about the Incapacitated times
0 -
I hope Eruption stays around for the next five years like old Dead Hard did!
0 -
Imagine if there was a survivor perk that punished killers for using their lunge attack, or some of their killer powers, on injured survivors. Oh wait, it's called dead hard, and I'm still constantly dealing with it, and I'm still being punished for using lunges or certain killer powers.
