Im Just Really Getting Tired Of It
Eruption. I am tired of getting hit with Eruption.
Eruption has no counterplay other than getting off the generator before a survivor goes down. The issue is that you cannot tell when a survivor is going to go down in SoloQ. You dont have the comms that SWF has to deal with it. Leading a horrible experience since Eruption's only counterplay is non-existent.
I had a match were I only got 2K Objective score because I got hit with Eruption 5 times. For those who dont know, that's 50% generator progress in regression combined with 125 seconds of not being able to do anything.
You cant heal. You cant do totems. You cant go and kiss your Granny goodnight because the Incapacitated debuff carries over IRL. You cant do anything. 2 minutes of not being able to do anything is dumb.
The match lasted 20+ minutes because like everyone else these days all you see is 4 slowdown perks just hammering your generators into oblivion. Which for my SWF is not an issue, but for SoloQ is just makes matches incredibly painful since the lack of comms really make things horrible.
I normally play both sides evenly in DBD but stuff like this has made me really want to play killer more than survivor. I might have to deal with people bringing BNPs every game, but at least I feel like I can do something.

They did overtune the perk and I agree, there's nothing you can do to counter it in solo queue. It's very frustrating to play against when a killer run a build with it which is quite common in mid to high MMR.
Either the gens don't get done, or the match takes longer than a Legion match.
They need to remove the incapacitate effect IMO.

Yeah lets nerf every perk that rewards the killer for going for multiple chases and not camping. Then wonder why killers are camping.

I'm genuinely glad more and more people are making threads about this and discussing it because at one point I was questioning if this was one of those things that wasn't actually a problem and just seemed like it
But no after the buff and giving it plenty of time to settle, I strongly believe the perk is just badly designed.
I mean really think about it, you have a perk that just disables a survivors ability to do anything for 25 seconds, as punishment for being on a generator that got kicked at some point before someone went down. The perk is meant to be a "trap" but even if I'm 100% aware of it, there is very little I can do unless I can 100% know my teammate is going to go down in some way.

Well nerf or not theres tons of perks that reward killers for not camping, and if a killer decide to camp he s gonna camp regardless of the perks, almost every killer perks becomes usless if the killer stands in front of the hook...
Eruption is really strong against solo q, and people usially go down pretty quickly, and if cobine it with othe 3 gen regression perks is very strong

Eruption does little to deincentivise tunnelling or camping.
Also slowdown perks are what allow some killers to get away with tunnelling/camping in the first place.
Just because a perk rewards you for winning chases that doesn't mean it makes killers change their playstyle.

Most killers don't just camp survivors out of spite like the devs think. Pop, ruin, DMS, Thana etc. are all nerfed now, and survivors are complaining about the remaining gen defense perks. Why would killers bother with chases if they just slowly keep nerfing every perk that stops the gens from getting done too quick.

So what does the killer get out of Eruption if they're just hovering around a hook and not patrolling the map kicking gens? Nothing. Also survivors efficient with gens, complete all gens regardless of Eruption. Survivors also said the gens are impossible to complete when the devs just added 10 secs to generators. So there is always over reaction.

Don't worry, it only took 5 years for them to respond to how original Dead Hard for distance had no counterplay, I'm sure they'll be just as prompt with Eruption

The devs don't think most killers camp out of spite though
They know Killers do it because it's effective and works, same with Tunnelling/Slugging.
You know what the best, more reliable slowdown is in DBD? Making the game a 3v1 as fast as possible. No amount of nerfs to generator related perks will change that. We're in a meta where camping and tunnelling is a lot easier than it used to be.
Several killers can traverse the map, kick gens then be straight back at the hook to tunnel/camp with little concern. Even then good killers will try to hook survivors as close to gens as possible. You get nothing out of hooking survivors in corners away from objectives
Even if that wasn't the case, as I've said above - the best form of slowdown in this game is killing somebody early. No perk is going to deterr a killer from doing that if they can get away with it and many slowdown perks make that possible.
I get that you want to use perks like Eruption to go for as many hooks as possible but people who want to "win" typically don't play like that
I'm not saying it's a bad thing but it is a fact of the game imo

It is probably the most annoying perk to deal with in solo queue, which is pretty much all I play. I hope they take a look at it as it really is very unfun dealing with Eruption with multiple other slowdowns too

Belive it or not when i play survivor i'm only getting camped (by some killers) when my chase last a bit too long for the killer taste, or some that camp the first down at 5 gens just to bother the player, hit them on hook ecc....other than that i don't see many killers camping in my surv games unless the killer is in trouble and does it as last resource cause hes loosing, wich is a completely fair tactic.
but again theres not perks that reward a killer for standing in front of the hook, And theres many many other gens defense perks, eruption in my pov is a bit too much for solo q players when combined with other perks
About gens going to fast its a problem that comes from the devs in my pov, killers complain that gens are going too fast and they add more slowdons, resulting on survivors gen rusing more cause they usually expect killers to run 4 slowdowns.
solo q complaing about gens being too long and they ad gen speed perks every ptb basically, resulting in the killers bringing 4 gens perk.
theres no balance and not variety really, its a vicious circle

Exactly. Specifically, this is the only perks besides mediocre Jolt that rewards killers for getting downs. With other perks, by the time you hook the survivor or walk up to the gen, the gen could be done. So Eruption is a massive time saver, which I guess killer just doesn't deserve to have, according to popular opinion.

You just want the perk nerfed, what not just find a counter solution.
And did there's no way to tell when Eruption will go off ,I just typed this and figured out the solution if you know someone,has just been injured in soloq that must mean they potentially go down also you saw the killer kick the gen and he's getting downs you have already been notified their running eruption haha survivors

The problem is
I know this generator I'm on has eruption on it
I see my teammate is injured
The question is how do I both be productive while my teammate is being chased and avoid a penalty that stops me playing the game for 25s at the same time
It's not like Pain res where you can physically see when a hook is about to happen, an injured survivor going down could be quick or it could be dragged out.

Idk man your the survivor main, just wait till the chase is over or stay on the gen, there's usually two people on it anyway,thats what the swfs do.

I prefer Killer these days, at least I don't have to deal with eruption when I'm playing killer
But yeah that's the problem, you either do nothing until someone goes down or do what you're supposed to (gens) while your teammate is buying you time. It's a lose/lose
Or you know, be a swf as we all keep saying.

Now you tell me how do I counter, COH,while two survivors are 75% thru a gen,I chase one off injure the other one ,commit to a chase,get deadhard,and then adrenaline pops and bam everyone is healed

Thats not a counterplay, u are literally giving the killer eruption with no eruprion being triggered

Uh-oh- another Eruption thread. I’m seeing a trend. I’m calling it- it’s going to get even more popular to the point where it’s old Ruin/Barbecue popular. Then it’ll get nerfed in the second half of 2023 after all the complaints.

Wow, you lost an entire half a gen from the killer having to down 5 times. That's like really strong or something. Reminds me of pre-nerf Pop and Pain Res.
You can't heal, but you can be healed. It's not the same.
I like how it's always "20 minute matches" yet I haven't been party to even 1, at least not because of the killer's "OP slowdown." It's not a lack of comms itself that causes this. It's solo having horrendous matchmaking that gives you awful teammates, and no other reason.
No, you won't be able to do anything as killer. Not against good survivors.

Yeah but they don't lose regression, that's the whole point to their counter,one it goes off you'll probably be halfway across the map in chase with a survivor and, that's the gen as soon as you even go back to it or you might not even make halfway their

Tunneling and camping is in no way easier than it used to be. That's absolutely untrue. It's more widely utilized than it used to be, because (shocker) every other playstyle is unviable. Survivors have base BT and Haste, the perk BT, Kinship, Reassurance, and regular old hook bombing/body blocks. So how is it easier?

usually killers use eruption with others gen regression perks, lets say they have pain res or jolt the gen is gonna regress anyway and u wasted time doing nothing

No they lost ~1.89 generators from the killer getting 5 downs (125/90 + 0.5), the incapacitated effect is gen regression in the form of opportunity cost since otherwise they'd be sitting on the gen that just got eruptioned.
Compare this with Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance which would only cause 0.75 gens worth of regression and you might start to see why a perk having double the regression of a meta gen regression perk at the "cost" of kicking a gen instead of finding a scourge hook can start to be a problem.

i probably just eat the eruption cause i have no way to know when my teammate is going down , even using bond or empathy, ideally if u see the killer has eruption u can maybe go to another gen if u know somebody is getting chased and hope that he didn't kick that one aswell xD but even in this situation u have to run around the map to find a gen first or maybe sobody else is gonna be hit by eruption, idk its just talks anyway , they are not gonna touch the perk any time soon in my pov (see the 6 years to fix dh ) but i can understand the frustration of the OP.
PERSONALLY it doesn't affect me cause when i'm on survivor i do one gen max per game if not half of it xD i prefere the killer to chase me even if i die, i don't wanna sit on a gen the whole game, but i also understand people that like to do gens and be stealthy and escape

i mean yeah if a swf plays to win and not to mess around theres almost nothing that the killer can do,it's imbalanced, u can just hope they die for altruism xD eruption does basically nothing if they have coms i think the guy is a solo q player and probably see it every match, its like when killers go against survivors with the same build every match, its boring and frustrating
It s not even the killer to blaim for using the perk, talking for both sides if a perk is strong u are gonna use it. Nobody is gonna put himself in a disadvantage to favor the opponent, unless u are memeing around

Killers still camp with this perk in the game, and did so before it's existence.
The camped with BBQ, they camped with Discordance, they will camp regardless of what perks are in the game, so using it as an excuse not to change something, simply isn't good enough.

Been playing for a few hours and man this perk is annoying and worse still it punishes solo players the most.
I was in a game where at least 2 of my team mates were in a SWF, so I worked with two of them on every gen and their team mate was obviously telling them when they were about to go down, so they could indicate to me when to also hop off the gen to avoid Eruption.
So against SWF's Eruption was getting virtually no value but against solos it is making life miserable. Something has to change with this perk that is for sure

we can talk about nerfing eruption ones the gens increase another 10 seconds in time. They still fly by like it was nothing so ofc killers bring gen regression meta.

you have multiple ways to track the killer and your teammate in solo q. You just don't want to run information perks.

I dont have many information perks unlocked on my account. I just moved to PC. I had to restart completely. And the fact that I would have to run two perks (one to track the killer and one to track the survivor) just to counter a single perks because I decide to play alone is dumb.

Every killer I faced still camps and tunnels anyways. Do you think it is going to just magically go away? Camping and tunneling are the most optimal ways of playing the game when done right, so everyone is going to do it regardless if they are winning or losing, it's always been this way, and it will remain this way for a long time.

The Killer also had Call of Brine and Overcharge, so all I could do is sit there and watch my generators get kicked while I cant do anything.
I wish Eruption blocked the generator instead of Incapacitated, Incapacitated makes a frustrating cycle where they kick the generator, regress it even more and apply Eruption again, only to get hit by Eruption again, repeat. Blocking the generator solves this frustration a lot, and at least I can work on my Archive challenges while I wait.

If they are camping with Eruption, that means they're hardly even using the perk. Therefore no reason to complain about Eruption.

The issue is that the reward is overtuned, not that there is a reward in and of itself. If it's taking killers 15-20 minutes to 4k, they shouldn't be 4king those games in the first place. At a certain point the survivors have extended chases well enough to win and the killer hasn't chased well enough to win. That's what people are getting at. Not that you said this, but it feels like some killers are saying "15-20 minutes for chases is fair" and that's just not the case.

There is no perk combination that is going to reliably show a survivor when a teammate is about to go into the dying state. DbD isn't a counterpick game on that level.

Exactly and as I keep saying, this perk punishes the already weaker solo queue players not the SWF's
Either way, I think it will end up getting looked at as the perk is downright frustrating to deal with in solo queue and has no real counter play.

U can’t track your teammate going down, bond and empathy only shows u that your teammate is getting chased based on their movement but now then the killer swing and they go down.

You are actually saying that seeing someone getting chased and getting hit quickly doesn't tell you maybe lay off the gen because they are going to go down soon? I've been hit by eruption in ONE match in the last SEVERAL months. When I run it as killer I've been chasing survivors near gens and WATCHED survivors let go as I get the down. If people know to let go for scourge they should know to let go for eruption. Even if you still get hit occasionally it's ridiculous to act as though there is no counterplay because there is. You just aren't paying attention to the game.

killers bring 4 slowdowns because survivors gen rush. Even with the 10s increase gen speed people are gonna still gen rushing and killers are gonna still run 4 slowdowns since those are the only type of perks that devs bring in every ptb. Devs are creating this metà idk why cause it’s boring for both sides

based on what u said never used the perks or u barely play survivors ( it’s not an attack I’m just explaining) Eruption doesn’t trigger when the guy touches the ground but when he enters the dying state, wich means that when the killer get the validation from the hit, eruption triggers so it’s before they touch the ground. Using those perks don’t give u an indication of when the survivor is going down, a chase can last 10 seconds, 20 seconds 1 or 2 minutes depending on map rng and both players experience. To do what u said survivors should be able to see the killer aura aswell to know when he’s actually starting the swing, and there’s no such perks other that wire trap or kinderd, even then the range is limited and they need to get cases really close to a hooked person or a gen that hasn’t been kicked yet. If u let go as soon as u see a person is getting chase not knowing how much the chase is gonna last u are wasting time doing nothing for n• seconds wich is basically giving the killer a free eruption without triggering it.
