In my opinion, DBD has three main balance issues above all other balance issues, which are the following:

  1. Balance gap between swf and solo survivors
  2. Camping and tunneling
  3. Map design

There are certainly other important balance issues as well, like the balance gap between the strongest and weakest killer in the game, as well as overpowered addons and/or perks on both sides (Eruption for example). But I consder the three problems listed above to be the most fundamental balance problems that DBD has.

The gap between solo and swf survivors has always been a problem, but has become more and more noticeable as killers have continuously been improved and brought into a better spot. The hud icons change won't completely close that balance gap, definitely not, but it's a great first step, and I hope we will see some more improvements in the future as well.

Camping and tunneling are still meta strategies, and are absolutely insufferable to go against. It's some of the worst gameplay I have ever seen in an online video game. The tunneling nerf we got was great, but clearly not enough. So I really hope we see some more nerfs to tunneling and camping as well.

When it comes to killers however, the biggest struggle they have are maps. And I was honestly losing hope for map balance considering the newest map we got with Knight isn't very balanced either, in my opinion at least. Too big, too many safe pallet loops.

However, Eyrie of Crows getting changes is a big surprise. Obviously we have to wait and see how these changes will be, maybe the map will still be a problem. But it's great to see that we are getting changes to that map, because BHVR has also understood how survivor sided that map is. So I would really hope that we see more such map changes in the future as well, making maps more balanced.

While the game does have a decent amount of balanced maps, it also still has a lot of survivor sided maps as well, which are very problematic. Map balance changes are the buffs to killers that the game desperately needs, incentivising them to play fairer and more skillful. These killer buffs in conjunction with nerfs to camping and tunneling, as well as solo survivor buffs, would bring the game into a so much better spot.

It’s a good start if the map is actually better but at this point I don’t really trust their map design team until I see an actually good map with my own eyes so I’m waiting to see how it is in the PTB.

But yes, if the redesign is good and they do this with more maps in the future, that is a huge step forward.

Yes very true, but looking at the dev update, it does seem like they have at least partially understood why the map is so survivor sided, so I am decently optimistic.

They stated that the map will have it's size reduced a bit, and the shape changed to a squared one. That alone should be a noticeable improvement. The one new pallet loop they showed in an image also seems fairly mindgameable actually. Not useless for survivors, but the killer will have a chance to get a hit at that loop if they outplay the survivor.
