Aura Layering
Please have Survivor auras (if a Killer) layer above generator. Going purely by Z-Depth in this case is just depressing.
Playing "spot the fringe of red behind a generator" is not a great experience and one of the weirdest things to undermine the value of aura perks. Especially when it's not intentional; the other players just haven't gotten off the gen.

Ok, if we can have killer auras visible in the 'magnifying glass' effect that is present when someone is hooked - half the time it makes running kindred pointless because by the time the Magnifier effect is gone and no longer obscuring the killer they've left the effect radius and you didn't see in which direction they went which is a vital part of the perk .

It's intended that way, so that survivors can hide their aura behind generators.

And? I'm saying that doesn't seem like a good idea to have other things obscure auras, which is barely ever intentional on the other player's part and just tends to be "I'm staying on this gen like my life depends upon it".

That doesn't makes sense as normally it would be purely coincidental, when you can see their aura you are just in an angle where the gen aura is hiding them. And even if you where right, then what is the point of revealing the aura if they can hide it for free if they are in the right spot?
The visual cues should be reduced in size in general, for everybody. I don't know how many times I couldn't see where the survivors go when unhooking or a gen is completed because of the damn "magnifying glass" as you call it. But I agree, the auras revealed, specially those of the survivors and killer, should be drawn on top of everything else.

Because every mechanic has some kind of counter or workaround. Why else would hiding in lockers also hide auras?

Because as you said, that's the way to hide your aura and counter aura reading. Auras not showing on top of other auras or visual ques is because how the game rendering works, doesn't have anything to do with "mechanics".

Because hiding in lockers is meant to hide auras, which is why auras don't display at all.
Hiding behind gens is just the game layering auras by z-depth normally after making sure they're on top of anything else (however it's doing that), which is why you get things like a tiny fringe of red as someone's head bobs along in the gen repair anim or something.

Apologies, but I don't know if there is a proper name for the 'magifying glass' effect and that's just what it looks like to me, so I went with that haha.
I don't even know why it's in the game - it's not as if you can't see someone being hooked and when the game first launched the aura of the body on the hook was just bigger. Imo it looked better. in fact being able to counter Pain. Res's scream effect counts on you being observant of the aura before it's hooked.
Auras are there to be visible, so they should be on both sides.

As effects go, it's plain ridiculous. I can't think of any other game where you can be within spitting distance of an objective, and then it'll light up and hide everything around it to give you a notification that it completed.
"Hi, we wanted you to know Survivors have completed this generator, so now you can't see the Survivors that were on the generator or anything around them, have fun working out which way they went". That it also hides auras, it seems (there aren't many Killer side perks that would trigger at the same time and... yeah, I'm not playing Survivor just to test how auras are hidden) is just silly.

this is one of the reasons why bitter murmur isn’t all too good of a perk
wishing they would just reduce the size of the giant obscuring objective whatsit bubble
