Tome Challenge Progress Resetting.

A number of Tome Challenges have reset their progress for me upon finishing a trial, they do not explicitly mention having to complete the entire challenge in a single trial.
This has happened to me on both Killer and Survivor. Tome Challenges this has happened to me on so far:
- Liberator, Tome 5, Level 1.
- Deadly Deceit, Tome 5, level 1
- Sore Ankles, Tome 12, Level 2
So far this has happened to me on two different Survivors, being Kate Denson and Nea Karlsson. For killer it happened on Nemesis.
Perks used:
Nemesis: BBQ & Chilli, Lethal Pursuer, Save the Best for Last and Deadlock.
For Survivors: Adrenaline, Off the Record, Dead Hard and Windows of Opportunity.
Edit: I have a number of Challenges that are mid progress, is there a limit to how many Tome Challenges that can have their progress kept track of?
