4% jump off hook before 2nd stage, yet still dead next hook

I was on hook obviously and a survivor came to unhook me the last second before i went into second stage and they got grabbed off me by the killer. So, once that animation of survivor being grabbed finished, i instantly went to pull off hook. I managed 4% jump off hook before 2nd stage, but i still died next hook.
Maybe timer was still counting in to 2nd stage whilst i was in off hook jump animation?
