Skull Merchant's First Skin Proves this chapter is a sex grab

Oh wow! Sadly sex and horror is a together, be it cheesey, be it hot and horror, me it where campers go around a campfire and drink and well.....we all know how Jason died lol, it's always been a thing, will always be a thing, yes I wish myself a little bit more horror though sadly I still ######### myself when ghost face comes around the corner or Myers is staring at me lol!
1 -
Also when I played Golden Axe, Mortal Combat etc, old games horror/action, even the nurses in silent hill, well sexy and skin is a thing and always has been, I mean anyone seen the babysitter movies? jinkeys lol
3 -
I'm just extremely worried at the fact that there's people playing this game that are genuinely aroused by a mutilated ghost, a putrefied priestess that keeps puking herself, and so on.
4 -
lol let me introduce you to the internet lol
1 -
Next chapter is baywatch with new killer Pamela Anderson, in full swimwear and surfboard.
1 -
As a Female, I fully support this! will we have David too?
0 -
I get called a sex addict, a mentally ill individual and lots of other nasty things IRL by some people in the street just for being bisexual while there's people out there getting aroused watching mutilated stuff, animals, vomit, etc. It really bothers me!
2 -
well those people then can go and get stuffed.....but there are people out there that do get aroused by such and well, these things and ome of them are illegal and such, but everybody gets objectified by everything, betwen looks gender, race, between getting surgery and such etc etc the list goes on, we need to be happy with who we are or we allow people to cause hate for us. My son, my youngest is autistuc and the struggle, but if we cant love who we are, how the hell are we going to allow anyone else too?

Her design comes across a lot like a skin made by old men for boys/men :)
It's not like she is the first female skull sniper with blatant close-ups of her butt and boobs.... oh wait... Kojima did that already. Maybe Kojima is doing their skin designs 🤷
Skull merchant at least has hair... lmao
2 -
omg lol
1 -
Have you ever seen the horror movies that DBD is emulating? They've got a long way to go to catch up with the sex.
6 -
Not the main point but what part of Thalia and Renato's clothing do you think would be in inappropriate for a coastal city in, well, South America? You do realize the cities have high humidity and can reach temperatures higher than 35 degrees Celsius?
1 -
esp with vampyres, I am not sure what the huge problem is with her clothes? yes do I wish they got the Predator in her even if they did the sexy walk sure, am I a huge fan of the new killer? no she looks like some BDSM Mistress about to spank you but hey her clothes are fine :)

whose body is also chopped up into pieces and moves in a twitchy, unnatural way
who is not a perfectly health lady doing a sexy walk
Yeah, I'd say there's a fairly obvious difference going on, there. Outright sex appeal on Killers was previously tied up in the grotesque, even Trickster, who's a kpop star, is a bloody mess with a bunch of unnerving mannerisms and creepy laughter. The most conventionally attractive going around was obviously Wesker, but that's just RE, and at least he kept his shirt on. The Survivors got more appealing outfits, but at the same time, no sexy walk.
So, SM is blatantly the most sexualised thing so far, and it's reaaaaaaally cheap because there's not a whole lot else to her appearance. Mask. Claw. Ho hum.
2 -
I remember the crop top thread. Some people gave you major ######### over that for no reason which was hilarious.
1 -
This abomination of a skin, the head and weapon are awesome but the body manages to have less subtly then a truck full of bricks
5 -
Here you go. Front and Back.
Edit: I've been Ninja'd but I'm leaving it.
3 -
sm is also bloody. her hand is so bloody that her base cosmetic looks like a prestige
1 -
I'd have less issue with the horny if the Drone Bone Zone had more merit as a killer.
Like, the Trickster's lore was good. He had an identity that made sense, an easy to follow path to madness and murder, and the things he wore made sense - he's a flamboyant narcissist showing off for his fans. When he's shirtless and decked out in glitter and mascara, I get it. For the Skull Merchant, who's a dissonant mishmash of cutthroat corporate exec, tech fanatic, and LARPer of her inexplicably-gone-for-milk dad's manga, I don't have that clear sense of identity and I can't actually figure out why she's wearing this cyberpunk playboy garb. Which is what makes it feel like a sex grab - there's no in-universe justification, so all that's left is the Doylist one.
Granted, there are some very horny bait skins already out there - we just got the Hooked On You collection, lmao - but those at least weren't the character's only launch cosmetic. Maybe I'd feel differently if there was anything I liked about this chapter.
7 -
It's a pretty subtle amount of blood. Yeah, the claw (and then to a lesser extent her arms) have some. Her mask's got some artful spots. But still way less than Trickster's default.
See, the point I'm making on the sexiness isn't is this good or bad, it's just 'this is the most blatantly sexy thing so far put into the game, with the least amount of offsetting creepiness'.
Now, the bad part is that her design is just lacking in cohesion, so it's just 'here's a sexy outfit and walk'... because.
5 -
This is 100% what I am saying. It makes SENSE for Trickster to have sex appeal and show skin - it works with his lore and who he is as a character. It's, for the most part, well written. Skully on the other hand, clearly only had her sex appeal as the main focus of selling this chapter and not her story or gameplay.
Hence why I am saying this chapter is a sex grab - BHVR knew the sex appeal would sell so they completely lazed out on lore and gameplay. There are no other redeeming qualities to her release.
1 -
In some ways this is the scariest chapter BHVR has ever made because it contains the thing a lot of players fear most, an attractive woman.
At least you'd think that from the reaction to it lmao.
7 -
Just a reminder these exist
6 -
Hooked on You is a different game though with the whole point of making the characters sexy. Regardless of that, they already had proper backstory + lore BEFORE this. Skull Merchant exists only to be sexy and not to have interesting story or gameplay. Like I've already said, no problem with her being sexualised. It's just that it is the ONLY thing about her.
1 -
calem, im sorry, but there are female killer who have been sexualized for years in dbd, huntress is a perfect example of this so is the artist as well, she was the "mommy" of dbd for a while, but also who cares, its only a game as well, we are all here to have fun, not not pick and cry about something that actually does not affect the game or gameplay, maybe keep discussion to things that are affecting played games a and suck might be more useful here , also may i remind u of all the skins dropped in the past that are sexualized or can be, aka spirit from the new game hooked on u whos skins are now moving to dbd , trapper in his tighty whities, and a few others, so why stop and pick on this killer when its been done many times before, once again this is a game we are here to play and have fun on, so if ur just gunna cry about cosmetics, then maybe its time to hang up dbd and move on
4 -
I dont mind, there are 31 killers, there will be this kind of killer, and there will be that kind of killer.
We have a Killer who float, a strong buff one, a corpse, a ghost, a rotten one, a near death one, a killer who had a rough looking because she ran for all her life.
Then we have a still alive - sexy killer. Nothing wrong with that.
Unless they keep releasing "sexy killers" type, then thats the problem.
The bad thing about her is back story, Mori, and power that 3 Gens related.
0 -
To be fair, Huntress "mommy" is caused by us fan artists, not Devs, like most other killers.
1 -
People are too used to abnormal women.
6 -
You've clearly not read anything else I've said in the replies. TL;DR other killers have gameplay + lore, while SM exists solely to be sexy. I am NOT against sexual characters. I am also not even focusing on the cosmetics, it's the entire chapter. Her skin was just the thing that made realise sexualisation was BHVR's focus this entire time, and not a good story + power. This whole release is just sad. You have provided nothing to the discussion.
0 -
Tbf the entire discussion is pretty subjective when you consider that the entire premise relies on suggesting nobody likes playing the killer for thier power which is just objectively false.
3 -
drone mommy?
1 -
I feel partially responsible for this.
Hmm...
Shirtless clown when?
2 -
And how many skins do we have now with topless guys and ripped muscles? I think you can handle one scantily clad female in the see of GD beefcakes.

-
Although, the lore has nothing to do with the sexy walk and appearance.
So... <_>
1 -
Tbh this is what happens when the community screams from the top of their lungs "THIS GAME ISNT SCARY AND NEVER WILL BE!!!" They stop focusing on horror. SM is action themed with slight horror elements which is what this community claims the game is
2 -
Considering the outfit is supposed to come from a manga, if you've ever seen one it's pretty par for the course.
1 -
This is what we expect now
0 -
The difference is that the sexualization of those characters came up from the community organically and was then requested. This is just... "Hi, nice to meet you! Would you like to treat me as a sex object despite having no idea who I am?" kind of vibe. If people in the community started sexualizing Dull Merchant and requesting sexy skins, that's when you make the sexy skins... not before they even know who she is.
And before anybody asks: yes, it felt kind of the same way with Vittorio but not quite as insidious because the first time they did it with a new character it was an anomaly. But now they've done it with 4 new characters in a row (Vittorio, Skull, Renato, Thalita) implying a pattern of just creating conventionally attractive characters with revealing outfits right out of the gate purely for profit, which is pretty scummy.
3 -
But if it was this way around and this kind of outfit was added to Skull Merchant after fan request…
then the complaints would be the devs were forced to do it and didn’t want to create the character like this themselves and they only added it after seeing the performance and feedback on Skull Merchant being bad
its as often just a lose-lose scenario for the devs really.
people don’t like the Skull Merchant and try to justify hate comments towards the devs instead of constructive criticism regarding the actual design. At least many people do this with arguments like she is too sexy or it was a failed Predator license.
1 -
I can't quite see how they'd be "forced" to do anything requested considering the sheer number of majority consensus community requests that they regularly ignore (i.e. make Red Forest smaller, nerf some of Blight's more egregious add-ons, incentivize not camping hooks, etc.).
2 -
I have seen the ‚forced‘ argument quite often on different topics regarding DbD. I know it doesn’t make sense, doesn’t change the fact toxic community members still use it. Especially if it comes from a popular content creator and their followers use it then..
0 -
Ah I see what you mean there. Though, at the end of the day, for me personally, I'd rather have the sexualization come from the community and then be responded to by the devs instead of the other way around, as when BHVR does it for a brand new character it just comes off as a scummy business tactic.
0 -
I have seen posts for a sexy Killer, this was requested.
1 -
I was interested to see if they would ever do it, but I was hoping it would be for more reason than 'sexy because manga because sexy'. Like, she's just tautologically so.
And literally nothing makes that walk work.
1 -
Trickster had something going for him. Like he looked inhuman, and i know dbd lore isnt something to go by but at least his was sort of compelling. He seems like a crazy maniac. This lady has nothing going for her so i can understand why they went the corny with an h route. Her design feels empty. Also does anyone remember when they removed the thong from Claudette's community skin? Or felix’s pubes from his one outfit. Like they were always careful not to cross a line. Now they realized sexiness is marketable so it’s no wonder why they cashed in on it.
2 -
To be fair, almost all aspects of her design have weak explanations, or no explanation at all. I have no idea where her tech comes from or how she learned to create it or why it's made of skulls or why her mask looks so goofy or why she's even called The Skull Merchant. The sexy strut is the least of her problems, in my opinion.
1 -
Hell, even I could get behind a sexy killer if it was some kind of Femme Fatale archetype, integrated into her power and backstory to create an actually compelling character. But this is definitely not that. Her sex appeal is just... there, for seemingly no reason other than to make money. Same with Vittorio, Renato, and Thalita. Just feels scummy when they just use sex appeal right off the bat to make money instead of waiting a bit. I mean, it's March. Summer is coming up in a few month. They really couldn't wait to release the revealing/beach outfits until then when it's actually kind of appropriate for most people? Meh. I care much more about the gameplay side of things anyway, but scummy business tactics really piss me off.
2 -
The sexy strut is the one that feels literally the most broken. Fairly sure there's something off about that walk cycle and it's so hard to tell if it's deliberate or from trying too hard.
At least Vittorio got to show off cool alchemical/magical tattoos in the process. They added something to the characterisation, that way.
And the siblings are dressing appropriately for their locale, so give 'em that.
6 -
you guys read the Lore? heh
