Yellow Glyphs don't work

I'm playing through Steam and yellow glyphs are not functioning when skillchecks are hit

For me, on Xbox, it seems like the game is reading the button press as a hold, and if I'm still "holding" the button when the needle leaves the skill check zone it fails.
