My friend and I live about 20 mins from each other but seem to be on different servers?

Neither one of us use a VPN and we are in the same timezone. Why is it that when the lobby belongs to me, our ping is higher than if the lobby belongs to him? We also seem to get more killers from South America when in my lobbies.

I'd like to fix this if possible but I don't know where to begin because I don't know what causes this.

Another factor that tells me we aren't on the same server is the BP bonus. When I have a 100% bonus on killer, he sometimes has a 100% bonus on survivor.
