Killer unlocked with iridescent shards suddenly gone after update

I play DBD on PC (windows)

Earlier today, before the rift update, I unlocked the Knight with iridescent shards. I played around a bit, got him to bloodweb level 15 or so. I quit the game, and a couple hours later, after the game had updated and the rift opened, I realized the knight was suddenly gone from my killer lineup, and my iridescent shards were back.

I don't know why this happened, but I am now very reluctant to unlock the knight a second time (or unlocking any other character) with shards or actual money, if this will happen every time a rift opens.

Hope this gets fixed soon.
