Friend adding system

I tried adding my friend who plays on Xbox series X, I typed the username including the # with capitalisation and doesn't show up. Just type in username only and none of the # matches. I join the same lobby as the friend I want to add through another friend and when I add my friend it says "Sent friend request to" blank.
Click on nametag, send friend request (PC sending request to Xbox series X player)

Im having the same issues. My friends and I tried using PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox but we cant find each others accounts. We typed in the usernames with and without tags but its not making a difference.
