Is Singularity supposed to be so loud or is it a bug?

Playing Singularity too long gives me a headache. Beyond his loud footsteps, which I can handle, there's also just an insanely loud mechanical whirring noise that pretty much drowns out all other game sounds. I can barely hear grunting survivors or even nearby generators when they are well progressed. Is this supposed to be like this?
