The only people who get punished are those who DC

There should be no reason to DC in a match, but lets be honest with ourselves there're a lot of reasons why people do.

Frankly put, there is no punishment for unsportsmanlike conduct and there should be, the only people who get punished are those who DC for not wanting to put up with the unsportsmanlike conduct of other people.

  1. Excessive tunneling by killers: You get off the hook only to be hooked immediately afterwards again, you get off again and immediately back up you go and are dead.
  2. Toxic survivors: I just got out of a match with a full team of them. I go to pick someone up, get the flashlight to the face, I get unstunned and immediately blinded again, get unstunned again and blinded once more. I have had this happen countless times, especially early in matches with 5 gens left.
  3. Body blocking for both survivors and killers. I get body blocked by survivors all the time when I will chase an injured person and someone crouches down in front of me to block. How is this not an offense? As a survivor I get body blocked by killers.
  4. People do not like certain killers, I have seen multiple people DC as soon as they see I play as the knight or Myers. I see it as a survivor when people see killers and immediately DC.

There're many more reasons but these seem to be the most common.

The issue is not the people who DC, the issue is the fact that there's a reason to DC. Get rid of the DC penalty and fix the game so people who feel the need to DC don't need to DC. If there is a problem with people DCing, maybe the devs should look into the underlying issues behind why people DC.

For your 4. argument, how do you propose they remove the reason to DC? Delete the killers that people dislike?

As a solo survivor, the main reason I see someone DC is if they get hooked first. That's part of the game and not a reason to DC. I've also seen a ton of DC's this anniversary if there wasn't 5 cakes offered. I even saw a survivor with the name "5 cakes or leave". To be honest I don't see any valid reason for dc'ing other than if the game froze and I think the penalty should be higher. I myself have dc'ed a few times if I got tired of the game, but by then I didn't want to play the game for a while and didn't see if I was penalized. But players should not be DC'ing left and right for small reasons like they don't like the killer or was downed first, that should definately be penalized.

You left out the biggest one, imo? Which is "I got chased first and went down too fast so I'm gonna DC."

Addressing tunneling and addressing unfun killers, as well as the disparity between SWF and SoloQ (to help address bully squads) I understand, but eliminating the DC penalty will increase DCs in situations that you simply cannot address, which is one side getting mad that the other is playing the game.

To highlight this - when you say "I get body blocked by survivors all the time when I will chase an injured person and someone crouches down in front of me to block" that's just taking hits. It's an intended mechanic of the game and people are going to use it to spread out the pressure beyond just one person. There are even perks that reward/punish taking hits - look at Mettle of Man and Forced Penance.

And on the other side of things, "As a survivor I get body blocked by killers." this is also an intended mechanic of the game - they use it to deny you material like windows or pallets, and you have to play to the limits of what can be bodyblocked if killers are clearly looking to do that. Body blocking is something both sides can do to get an advantage, even if it often comes with a risk or a cost.

DCing will never be fully eliminated, and removing the DC penalty in a world without tunneling doesn't suddenly make it so people will just DC when the situation is maximally unfun. They'll DC the second the game goes the slightest way against them, like many do now with the penalty.

I’m a killer main and I definitely dont agree with point 2. Doing a Flashlight save is not toxic. Or even chain blinding you like you explain. There is an extremely simple way to counter this watch youtube videos on this. It’s your fault if you fall for a flashlight save or a chain blind. Even when blinded it’s still pretty easy to track a survivor.

I love to get a full squad with flashlights. That means they’re not doing gens. Their altruism will most likely lose them the match.

People with flashlights usually just wanna have fun and go for sick saves, and they usually end up dead for it. Just watch the youtubers with the flashlights, half the time they die. No flashlights mean everyone is just on gens instead. There isn’t a more boring match than that

There are absolutely people who DC because of unsportsmanlike behavior, but there's also a whole lot of people who DC just because they rage quit, and there's even some who DC to try and deny some stuff their opponent(s) might get (Bloodwarden, rewards, adept...)

OP is right about one thing regarding this game. Unsportsmanlike or toxic behaviour is not punished in this game. As the other side you have to endure it or suffer the consequences of a DC. And because it happens more than once, that DC timer starts to rack up easily.

People who misbehave in a game should not get away with it.
