As a killer main, no its fine. Id rather take the 50/50 chance of a surv winning and I move on or guard gates for a kill (if possible).

Taking it away would make 1v1 boring as hellll and a pain in the butt to try and look for a stealthy surv.

The game doesn't count hatch as an escape. The devs have said the game considers it null and void. Hatch was introduced because of endgame stand offs, where the game devolved into hide and seek. It's purely a means to an end, and killers are far more likely to find hatch than survivors are anyway. Getting angry over a survivor getting hatch is pointless. Literally all it gets them is extra bp.

Nothings stopping the survivor from refusing to die however, forcing the killer to either open the gate or basically hatch stand off 2.0

The only thing I really dislike about the hatch (beyond the occasional survivor just waiting for their team to die) is what I believe people call "slugging for the 4k." I've had a lot of games as a survivor when there are only two people left, but one is left on the ground as bait for the other because I guess the possibility of the fourth survivor escaping via the hatch is absolutely unacceptable to some people? So it just becomes a game of "Heal downed survivor, one of the two remaining gets slapped back down, rinse/repeat until both survivors have been neutralized." I guess in terms of the possibility of getting more bloodpoints from healing and being chased, that could technically be a positive, but 1.) Bloodpoints are in abundance now and 2.) If there are two or three generators that still need done with two survivors remaining, there's no hope for either of them beyond one dying and the other maybe finding the hatch.

But at that point it isn't the hope of "winning," it's just the hope of getting to the next game. People generally don't like playing or watching games where the outcome is already decided. Refusing to let someone the possibility of getting the hatch and instead drawing out the game in order to secure four kills almost feels like a baseball team going up to bat in the 9th inning after the losing team has had their turn at bat for the 9th inning. It's completely redundant in baseball (which is why it doesn't happen) and I feel like it's similarly redundant in Dead by Daylight.

Though I'm also of the opinion that changes to the hatch system won't change anything. It's players' overwhelming need to not just win, but completely dominate that causes the most undesirable situations in the game. There could be the best implementation of mechanics that a 4v1 has ever seen in gaming history and people would still find ways to make the game unfun for themselves and, by extension, possibly others.

Really I think all people need to make this game fun and balanced in their mind is for them to change their perspective and expectations.

As much as I hate hatch... no, it needs to be in the game. The last survivor should not be at such a disadvantage that losing is guaranteed. And even if the EGC just started, the survivor would still be outclassed against the vast majority of killers and maps. I wish the final escape were skill based rather than luck, but its better than a 3k=4k.

Maybe closing it instantly kills the survivor like when egc runs out? The survivor instantly escapes so I dont see an issue there. I could see the point that the killers faster and thus is more likely to find hatch, but thats really only true for blight. 15% more speed isnt gonna change the RNG nightmare of hatch. But then again i run NWO in all my builds so closing hatch is just an insta win for me anyway.

There’s literally nothing wrong with the hatch, though.

-It incentivises the last survivor to continue the game instead of just going AFK. it creates gameplay for the killer and final survivor when the game is essentially over.

-No “holding game hostage” situation as it can force the EGC if found by killer first.

-it’s not a “free escape” as the game still registers it as a loss for survivors. The only incentive is essentially the BP bonus for a hatch escape.

-The hatch is RNG dependant so, as the killer, you have just as much luck finding it first as the survivor does. That’s balanced in my eyes.

the only thing I can think of is it denies the killer a true 4K, which is the only possible “issue” I can find with the hatch. Even so, it’s still a W for a killer as the survivors have well and truly lost if that game reaches this stage.

Anybody who complains about hatch would not have coped years ago pre-hatch nerf when multiple survivors could just escape mid-game, or when the hatch used to spawn early so survivors could just camp it until their team dies… now that was unfair/unbalanced.

Well, to be fair if they want to think that let them, the team lost and finding something to get 5K points means just that, and that alone. Maybe they "won" the hatch standoff? Woo exciting haha.

And for folks who stand on it to taunt, well, a lot of times the killer manages to close it, and well, that's the way it goes. I don't blame them for closing it. If you find it, just leave and be kind.

I've also had killers close it in my face after them giving me the impression to use it, ah, that's always a fun experience as well!

The Hatch is there to encourage the game ending and not being dragged on forever, The Killer can Slug for the 4K if they think they can find them. At times the Killer finds the Hatch first and the Survivor can be found at the gates. Its all about ending the game when its clearly over in the Killers favour.

Don't you see it? Like the alternatives without Hatch would be drawn out long waste of both players time.

I think it FEELS like a loss because the Survivor TECHNICALLY escapes from a game you have won as Killer. But look at it for real, you caused the Hatch to spawn, You deleted 3 Survivors. You won by any rational estimation, bHVR would clap.

Ofc the Survivors in Post Game Chat will never recognize that, they are eternally silly.

yea killer has the option to be petty or not care about the last survivor escaping. hatch makes that decision on behalf of the killer. hope you can see the problem.

Hatch escape is not a win. Some survivors may see it as that, but it's not. BHVR's MMR sees it as a null. You didn't die and you didn't escape. Hatch is there so the game will end quickly. If a hatch is closed and the survivor is able to open the gate and escape, then that's a win because it takes skill to do that and isn't an instant escape. Escape does not always equal a win.

Without hatch, 3K basically guarantees a 4K. As there's no way survivors are getting those doors open solo. Escapes like that are incredibly rare. I think the hatch is fine.

that's gotta be the dumbest and most pointless offer i've ever seen.

for example, okay, let's say all the other 3 are dead and i'm the last one standing with literally 3+ gens left. so, what do you expect me to do? somehow repair them all in 2 minutes without the killer finding me and escaping through the gate peacefully? don't tell me that hatch is too "op" for you at this point. it's way better to end the match soon than being left there for an whole hour hiding in lockers

You don't repair gens when there's only one person left. The gates/hatch open up after the third survivor is dead.

No, hatch is fine. As most people have said, it doesn't count as a win for the survivor, but it gives them a reason to keep playing. *Especially* in solo queue. Getting teamed with a new player who dies at 4 gens or a player that suicides on hook after first down should not punish me by putting me in a completely inescapable position.

If you posted this because you are genuinely seeing survivors in every other game sitting on the hatch, then that means that you are winning every other game and have nothing to complain about.

Some questions have always arisen onto my head about the hatch...

It doesn't count as a win for survivor, is something like "null". The survivor just gets awarded bloodpoints..

If it doesnt count as a win, why it is giving BP to the survivor? Shouldnt it also give points to the killer then? A true "null" case would either give nothing or give bloodpoints to both sides. If it awards you for escaping through hatch and killers get nothing, it certainly counts a a "win" for the survivor and not as a "lose" or "null".

It is not fair for the survivor to not have a chance to escape if he is the last one. Not fair to guarantee a 4k out of a 3k.

Wonder what would happen if the killer was given something similar? Like, he had a bad game, and all the 4 survivors escape, but when the last one crosses the exit gates, there is like a 15% - 20% chance that he instantly dies. Of course that would count as "null", but still give 5k BP to the killer. Would the survivors be fine with that?

The hatch itself is fine. It’s needed to prevent stalemates where 2 survivors hide in hopeless situations for an eternity.

However, I’m a firm believer that playing selfishly for the hatch from the start of the game with perks like Left Behind is unhealthy and those perks should be changed/reworked. Clairvoyance’s hatch aura reading can go too.
