Potential idea to make Bubba more fun?
I think everyone can agree that Bubba, being relatively unchanged since his release in September 2017, has an outdated power. This can be said for quite a few old killers (Trapper, Myres, Pig, to name a few) but IMO Bubba is the one causing most problems.
The issues with him basically come down to how boring he is to play as and against, of course opinion may vary but I think that's the general consensus. Right now, his gameplay consists of finding a survivor, ending a loop quickly by downing or forcing a quick chainsaw break on the pallet and moving onto the next loop, downing and then hooking. In most cases, that hooking is the last one for that survivor but that’s beyond the point. His power is dull and doesn’t leave much room for a skill ceiling. In comparison to the other chainsaw killer, Billy, his power is so mundane. To be a good Billy you need to learn how to do fast flicks, need to rebind Q and E to turn, need to learn to master loops as his power isn’t as easy to use on pallets, all these little things that take hours of practice to get good at are absent in Bubba. (Not to say Billy is perfect, he's wildly underpowered right now but I digress)
My proposal to Bubba is to bring him more in line with the powers given to new killers today. My thought was a set of different modes Bubba can be in. Normal, Hunter and Rampage. Hunter and Rampage would be modes that Bubba can select (like Knight selecting guards or Clown selecting bottles) and would need to charge. Each power could also come with its own mask, bring back the old Bubba masks but in a different way - preferably all the same race as him to avoid… that. Obviously this would be difficult to do with cosmetics and all but considering he has like 2, I reckon it could work lmao. Anyways, the powers:
Normal: This is the state Bubba is in by default. This state is pretty much identical to how Bubba is played right now, with the only difference being that if he hits a survivor with his chainsaw they are instadowned, but he then stops using the chainsaw. This prevents him from getting snowball downs while in this mode.
Hunter: In Hunter mode, Bubba’s terror radius is reduced to 16 metres and he can now place “Bait” (like buckets of chilli or something) that if a survivor spends too much time around without breaking it (or knocking over the bucket) they get drawn in by it by losing control of their character who starts moving towards the bait and eats it, which takes 1 health state - regardless of current health state so it could down you. The tradeoff for this mode is that his chainsaw takes longer to charge and is louder. This mode’s terror radius is predominantly for sneaking up on gens etc/scouting for survivors without giving away your location too quickly. Paired with Monitor and Abuse this could make for some very easy grabs. The bait should add a layer of complexity too which allows for better strategy to be developed by killers and survivors to play as/against him.
Rampage: In Rampage mode, Bubba’s speed is increased to 120% and his terror radius increased to 40 metres. The benefit of this one is that he has built in Spirit Fury and he can now chain instadowns with his chainsaw. The only exception being that if he hits someone with the Endurance effect, they still go into deep wound but Bubba’s chainsaw does end to allow them to escape. This is to prevent Bubbas from instadowning straight off the hook killing both the hooked survivor and the saver, as right now this is completely unavoidable if Bubba is near the hook - especially basement. I think everyone knows that a Basement Bubba is GG from the start lmao. If the Exposed effect and Billy can’t instadown Endurance then neither should Bubba. My intentions for this mode is to give Bubba his current power in a much more exciting form while still limiting the current bullshit that entails lmao.
I personally like these ideas - obviously or I wouldn't be sharing them - but I have no idea if they’re actually any good lmao. If anyone even slightly likes it and has some adjustments to suggest then please do share them, and if anyone doesn’t like it and thinks I need therapy or something then again, please do share but be nice <3. I know the devs probably look at ######### like this and go “well akchuwally the stats say he’s fine” and I say fair enough, but the stats don’t take into account how enjoyable he is at the moment. Honestly idgaf if everyone agrees that this idea isn’t the one, I just want a fun Bubba any good change will do D:

increase chainsaw speed+yellow chili basekit done

I disagree that Bubba is boring, he’s one of my favorite killers to both play and play against. Sure his power is simple as he’s an older killer but that’s not inherently bad.
The only changes he needs imo is some kind of nerf to his camping and he should get yellow Chili basekit as it feels almost required to have a Chili addon on him (if you’re not planning to camp all game that is).

incoming bubba complaints+otz upgrading bubba to A-tier in next tier list. I think bubba does take skill to play. that is why his kill-rates were some of the worst in the top 5% list posted last year.

100% what @sizzlingmario4 said. He's very fun (both as and against) if he isn't the camping kind
Just a note - giving him both speed AND chilly basekit would make him too strong if he actually then takes beastmarks and award chilly.

A nice QoL buff to all levels of play would be batching charges. Right now the second you tap M2 while sawing, the charge is used, and the saw timer resets. That means if you tap M2 2 times at the start, you burn all the charges but only get 1 saw duration. If it were batched, it would queue up the charge to be used when at 0%, that way you don't have to memorize the timings and can just tap the button once or twice can focus on the chase and its mindgames. I think that would help newbies and veterans alike.
Then if they fix his bugged and worthless Iri, that would also help him be in a better place. The tuning guide is basically a worse version of Purple Chili (same bonus per charge), and since it combines the charges, it slows you down further than you'd expect from what the number says. The saw speed is programmed to reach certain speed thresholds after X% of a charge, not X seconds. That means if you only have 1 charge of the 3 times combined, you reach full speed much later than if you had the normal 3 charges.

For iri addon - AFAIK this was (long time) bug that got fixed in PTB (so in next patch it will work correctly)

I see no reason to add more to Bubba, people like a simple Killer and keeping it simple is good enough-
Infact, it makes me happy I dont have to sweat some super skills to play him, he makes for good comfy and relaxing Killer play.
Well compared to many other Killers that is.

Just make it so there are not random invisible hitboxes near objects, so you don't get into tantrum.
I have a chainsaw but some branch I can walk through is able to trigger my tantrum...

that is worst thing ever. I hate the random polygons they put in some maps like badham and garden of joy where your chainsaw goes in tantrum. i wonder if these random branches are for blight slide tech because they are ultra-annoying for bubba chainsaw.

TBF I feel like Devs are removing those. Like GoJ was awful. Now it's just bad (but predictably so). A lot of maps had random stuff that's no longer there (going to basement in Thomson's comes to mind). There are still issues with newer maps (IDK about Toba, but definitely shattered square) - hopefully those will be fixed too

if a map is full of these branches, they become infinities for bubba chainsaw when you can legit loop a rock/tree/fence and because survivor model is smaller than killer. the survivor is faster than bubba's chainsaw due to tighter route vs wider route.

If Bubba were even more fun, I'd explode from delight.

No offense, but I'll believe it when I see it. Too many bugs were fixed, only to crop back up in the very next patch. Sadly patch notes in regards to bug-fixes aren't that reliable. That's just one of the 'quirks' of playing DBD.
