The absolute mess pain res (and dms) has become
6.1.0 removed the info and interruption part of pain res, a good change! Then, literally two weeks later in 6.1.2.... they did this, with quite possibly the worst reasoning I've ever seen from the devs:
So they brought back the interruption part of pain res, and why was that exactly..? To remedy something means to "set right (an undesirable situation)." What exactly is the undesirable situation here??? That survivors got a lot of skill checks? What is so undesirable about that? You could literally just get off the generator and eat the 20 second gen block from merciless storm if you were so afraid of skill checks for whatever reason, but now you're straight up forced to do so when this interaction happens. They didn't even say it was an issue, they just said what it was and what they were doing to get rid of it, no real indication as to why exactly they wanted to fix this non issue.
But I mean whatever right, even in solo you could always just react to the aura of a teammate getting hooked before the perks activated, and get off the gen right as they do and you'll be good to get back on. The only things that made this an issue was the chance of getting a skill check right as you got off the gen (resulting in it regressing 10% and notifying the killer), and blindness, which are both dumb in their own regard and weren't super common, so overall it was alright, you could basically always dodge pain res to deny value from dms, and this even goes back to pain res's release.
And then last update happened, and now hook related perks trigger much sooner, making it much harder to react to the aura of the survivor getting hooked and dodge pain res. I will concede that I initially thought it was impossible to react to now, but after a little testing it's just harder, but not impossible. Still, it adds to the annoyance of that part of pain res that has no reason to exist, and to the gap between solo and swf, since a swf can easily comm when they're about to get hooked, and waste much less time not doing the generator than a solo would have to, unless they want to take a pretty decent risk reacting to the hook aura. Also adds to the problems of obnoxiously timed skill checks and blindness as mentioned before.
Please just remove the scream/interruption part of pain res again, it has no reason to exist besides being an annoyance and screwing over solos more than they already are. Please remove it from jolt too, it has no reason to exist there either. I don't know why it was changed at all or why it wasn't even documented anywhere, but if it was for the same reason as pain res, that is ridiculous. Getting "too many skill checks" because of merciless storm is an absolute non issue and the way it was "fixed" was absolutely absurd.

While I sympathize, I will say that it's a lot less oppressive since Pain Res is capped at 4 uses a match. Not really much of an issue, imho.
Surge is even less of an issue. You need to hook someone and then down someone within 32m of a gen within 30 seconds while someone is on it. That's so conditional that it feels like a non-issue, although I am confused why the scream was added.

I will have to agree with @GrimReaperJr1232 here.
How often do you even get this problem? For me it's so rare that why even bother? Why try to fix something you might maybe see in 1 game in a month, when there are a lot of clearly very broken things in game that should get priority?
Also I would even begin to ask if it is problem at all. DMS is conditional 30s stall. If you play it right, the perk does nothing (maybe u later come to gen so it gets blocked for say 10s, but chances are nobody would be able to work on that gen anyway). So it's clearly not OP. So why would such an interaction even be problem? (Especially compared to deadlock).
The only thing that needs to be fixed is early survivor cries and pain res activation. But that looks a lot like bug and I presume/hope it will be addressed

I agree with both GrimReaperJr1232 and Gandor.
Pain Resonance is still a good Perk but the 4 Token - each for one survivor - makes it balanced and fine. In addition, survivors are still able to let go off of the Generator before the hook happens and also keep in mind which token is already used. Even the combination of Dead Man's Switch and Pain Resonance is still fine like Gandor already explained.
Surge/Jolt is also a fine Perk too. The screaming and interruption addition is a nice buff for this Perk but it is still a balanced Perk. You can only use it on M1-Killer and it is also rather weak on big maps. The combination of Jolt and Dead Man's Switch is even weaker and another slowdown or regression Perk would be much better than DMS if paired with Jolt.
Overall, in my opinion all of these Perks are fine and don't need a change.
If I remeber corretly, Otz said that this early survivor crieses on the hook are the correct way of when survivors have to scream. But only one of the developers can tell us if this is a bug or intended.

You only have 4 uses of SH: Pain Resonance, so it's not as bad as it was before.
Also if you are seeing a Survivor being hooked for the first time, you just get off the Generator if it has the most progression (which you can see via the Survivor HUD) to avoid SH: Pain Resonance with Dead Man's Switch.

Pain res is still a top tier perk after the change, and this change is still completely pointless and does only negative things. Even if jolt doesn't trigger DMS, it still gives info, which can be dodged by swfs but nothing can be done about it as solo, it's stupid

"How often do you even see this" will always be a nothing argument to me lol. Anyways it's a problem because solos have to risk timing the dodge (which is actually challening now), whereas swfs can just comm when they're being hooked and is much less risky. I agree these perks are fine overall but that doesn't mean they don't have flaws, and the interruption/scream effect is one of them. Particularly the jolt one since it's literally the same problem as old eruption, just on a much smaller scale

My question is WHY did Merciless Storm trigger 40 skill checks? Why didn’t they try to just fix that?

Removing the scream parts of these perks realistically would be a qol change, particularly with how obnoxious the timing is now to dodge pain res and how literally not possible it is to do it with jolt in a solo, but of course in a swf. If the effects are so insignificant that a swf wouldn't care to dodge them (which they do actually), then why are they even parts of the perks? Jolt and especially pain res don't need this bonus and inconsistent feature, and it only works out to be a negative thing

they didnt even need to, tbh

I don’t want 40 skill checks lmao

then just get off the gen
2 -
I don’t want my gen blocked either 😝 I want things to work as intended

I'm tired of gens blowing up its so annoying I hope they remove it, its fine on maybe one perk like Eruption but this game already has a problem with incessant loud random noises; gen explosions don't need to be there too.

That is intended lmao, the way it works now it literally blocks the gen, either hit the skill checks or the gen gets blocked, that's how the perk works
1 -
I don't really appreciate it with eruption either, they recognized the problem with it disproportionately affecting solos and just made it (much) less bad when they could've just fixed it

they have habit of changing wrong thing to fix the problem. they needed to rework merciless storm to only trigger for fix time window if they dislike that interaction. the simple fix is just making merciless storm trigger at 90% progression for 8/9/10 seconds. personally I don't think there was anything wrong with that interaction. merciless storm is not great perk for someone that is experienced with skill-checks and the perk is not strong even when a player fails the check. it also only works once per gen.
a lot of recent dbd changes seem to be just indirect changes to try to revert back to pre 6.1 dbd. it is like people cannot adapt to any changes.

Agreed, I don't understand why they felt it was a problem either, before you would have the option of hitting the skill checks or just giving up and eating the 20s, now you're just forced to eat the 20s, so it's like they thought this situation was too good for survivors...or something?

I know how Merciless Storm works. But it isn’t intended to give you 40 skill checks. Your choices are just suffer the penalty or push through them all.
0 -
I mean yeah we know it's not intended just because they changed it, but the way they changed it (and therefore intend it to be, maybe?) makes it so now there's only the option of suffering the penalty, I'd very much like to have the option to push through them all, I would think you would prefer that over current too? Just since it's straight up more options for the survivor

I mean if I had to choose then yes I’d prefer the option to push through. I play on Switch though and while it’s not impossible it can be difficult to hit them all every time given the low fps. I’d just rather they fix the issue overall.
