Singularity is a fun vacuum
Singularity has maybe my favorite visual/audio design of any killer and any potential enjoyment is ruined by him being (in my opinion) the worst gameplay designed killer.
- Requires map setup. Any killer that requires map setup may as well start with 1 less generator right from the beginning because that is exactly what will happen as you spend a minute trying to set up your biopods in advantageous places around the map. This amount of time will increase or decrease exponentially depending on what map you are in. These are two of the WORST parts of playing killer. (Map dependency and setup time)
- Power is incredibly easy to negate. While other setup killers like trapper or hag can also face power negation singularity is in a very unique spot. Trapper's traps take an amount of time to disarm, provide information when they are disarmed, and he even has addons to punish you for disarming them or making them take longer. Hag's traps require quite a lengthy amount of time for crouch walking and wiping them away, or if a smart survivor triggers them while you are occupied at least you have the benefit of (usually) successfully downing and hooking someone. Singularity's biopods are disarmed by a survivor interacting with a chest (which they can do even if holding an item already) and then disables the biopods for such a length of time they may as well be removed entirely. It also removes any slipstreams you happen to have acquired by using your power successfully. This leads into problem 3 ->
- Slipstreaming takes too long and is not rewarding. For some unfathomable reason the only way to slipstream a survivor is by shooting your blob at a wall, then taking the time to look through it, then looking at them, then either waiting several critical seconds for it to reset (during which they will likely remove the blob AND disarm the biopod with an emp) or breaking out of camera mode (which takes enough time for them to do the previous mentioned cleansing) and then finding them. Why is it so roundabout?? Why not even have the option to just fire the globs directly onto survivors and have a cooldown period? Also when slipstreamed the ONLY downside a survivor suffers is the ability to be directly teleported to by either a biopod or the biopod gun. So even if the survivor doesn't have an EMP on hand they can just... walk away. Stand behind a small obstacle. If the Singularity chooses to chase he will almost certainly waste time while other survivors finish generators unimpeded. Slipstreaming other survivors by proximity is zero threat. EMPs are so plentiful and so quick to use that survivors will immediately remove them.
Let's say in a hypothetical scenario you successfully slipstream a survivor and begin chasing them. What next? You can use your M2 to fire and close the gap! Great! Except for the following problems: The time it takes to spawn next to them is so long this is only effective if you are around 10 meters away up to the maximum range of the biopod gun. The reticle for the biopod is also extremely finnicky and more often then not you end up placing a blob on a random wall, removing one of the biopods you so painstakingly set up earlier!
I'm sure more well known and more articulate players have already shared their grievances regarding this killer but I felt compelled to post as I am so incredibly disappointed by this killer. I love literally everything else about him other than how he plays which is the most important part.
TL,DR: The singularity has so many shortcomings there is no reason for anyone to pick this killer over another, more effective and FUN one.
