I spent too much time writing this thing. This is a hypothetical scenario where like killers, survivors have their own unique passive abilities. The perks in question would be removed as teachable perks, all other perks become universal. There are, after all, way too many perks in this game and they need to be condensed. The Exhaustion effect is also carried over into the abilities, forcing players to take caution when using Exhaustion perks on Survivors who already have abilities that cause it.

Dwight Fairfield- Leader and Prove Thyself become his ability, adhering to his status as a leader to unite his teammates together.

Meg Thomas- Sprint Burst and Adrenaline become her ability, cementing her signature title of  “athlete who can outrun most killers.”

Claudette Moral- Botany Knowledge and Empathy become her ability, solidifying her as a healer who does her job best.

Jake Park- Calm Spirit and Iron Will become his ability, establishing him as a natural survivalist akin with his environment.

Nea Karlsson- Streetwise and Urban Evasion become her ability, attributing to her experience on the streets and evading authorities.

Laurie Strode- Sole Survivor and Object Of Obsession become her ability. She has always been the core survivor of Myers’ attacks and is primed to be the last one standing.

Ace Visconti- Ace in the Hole and Up the Ante become his ability. Ace is a walking symbol of luck, or so he believes, and his presence affects the luck of everyone in the trial.

William “Bill” Overbeck- Unbreakable and Left Behind become his ability, allowing him to push through the most dire situations for a last chance most others don’t get.

Feng Min- Technician and Alert become her ability. Feng is well vigilant of her surroundings and able to quietly seize the objective more efficiently than others.

David King- We’re Gonna Live Forever and Dead Hard becomes his ability. His allies deserve his best protection and he’ll pull through to keep everyone on their feet in the face of danger.

Quentin Smith- Vigil and Pharmacy become his ability, giving him what he needs to support his team and keep them healthy.

Detective Tapp- Detective’s Hunch and Tenacity become his ability, respecting his title as a detective who stops at nothing to bring justice and take down the perpetrator.

Kate Denson- Dance With Me and Boil Over become her ability. Kate is a songbird who lives for the thrill and is highly difficult to contain.

Adam Francis- Diversion and Autodidact become his ability. Adam is highly intelligent and able to think his way through most situations.

Jeff Johanson- Distortion and Breakdown become his ability. Being a quiet artist, Jeff prefers attention away from him and will take any chance he gets to keep away.

Jane Romero- Head On and Poised become her ability. Jane is a determined go-getter and let’s nothing stop her when she’s set on completing her goals.

Ashley J. Williams- Mettle of Man and Buckle Up become his ability, establishing Ash as a survivor like no other who fights back to protect his team.

Nancy Wheeler- Better Together and Inner Strength become her ability, letting her break through hardship by uniting her team together and healing herself.

Steve Harrington- Babysitter and Second Wind become his ability, cementing him as a protector willing to risk it all to save someone and get away safely.

Yui Kimura-  Any Means Necessary and Breakout become her ability. Yui Kimura has been through stalkers and trauma which have only fueled her resolve to help other’s in need.

Zarina Kassir- For the People and Red Herring become her ability, allowing her to sneak around killers and toss herself in the fray if it means saving a life.

Cheryl Mason- Soul Guard and Repressed Alliance become her ability. Heather “Cheryl” Mason has been through indescribable horrors and has learned to use her own abilities against The Entity.

Felix Richter- Visionary and Desperate Measures become his ability. Felix carries great architectural expertise on his shoulders and uses his skills and determination to assist his team.

Elodie Rakoto- Appraisal and Deception become her ability. Being an occult investigator, Elodie has a sharp eye for little details and a crafty nature that allows her to trick killers.

Yun-Jin Lee- Fast Track and Self Preservation become her ability. Yun-Jin has always been a solo act, seeing her own survival as a practicality above all others most of the time.

Jill Valentine- Counterforce and Blast Mine become her ability. Jill is an adept STARS member who can fight back against killers without direct confrontation.

Leon Kennedy- Flashbang and Rookie Spirit become his ability. Leon is skilled in adapting to his surroundings to meet the objective and will bravely fight back against any threat that harms his team.

Mikaela Reid- Clairvoyance and Boon: Shadow Step become her ability. Skilled in the dark arts, Mikaela can see what others cannot and can help provide protection from the killer’s senses.

Jonah Vasquez- Corrective Action and Boon: Exponential become his ability. Jonah is an expert mathematician and can analyze situations at a whim to either correct mistakes or quickly turn the tide in his favor.

Yoichi Asakawa- Parental Guidance and Empathetic Connection become his ability. Yoichi has an unmatched ability to hear the dead, and their presence defends him from danger and helps him reunite with his allies.

Haddie Kaur- Inner Focus and Residual Manfiest become her ability. Haddie knows of the existence of other realms, allowing her to see into the unknown where others cannot. Fully aware of approaching oblivion, she is fearless and directly stands up to any foul being that comes before her.

Ada Wong- Wiretap and Low Profile become her ability. Ada is a skilled survivalist no one can fully predict, allowing her to slip away and keep eyes on the bigger threats.

Rebecca Chambers- Better Than New and Reassurance become her ability. Rebecca is a young healer who brings a joyful light in the darkness with her presence.

Vittorio Toscano- Potential Energy and Fogwise become his ability. Vittorio has been in The Entity’s realm for centuries, and has adapted to its strange properties to gain an advantage.

Thalita Lyra- Friendly Competition and Cut Loose become her ability. Thalita is an upbeat ally who empowers her team and is difficult to catch.

Renato Lyra- Blood Rush and Background Player become his ability. Renato is always deadset on the prize and little will stop him from grabbing for it, either pushing through great pain or springing into action to help someone in need.

Gabriel Soma- Troubleshooter and Made for This becomes his ability. Being from the distant future, Gabriel is physically conditioned to analyze problems and guarantee his own survival.

Nicholas Cage- A unique situation where all three perks; Dramaturgy, Scene Partner, and Plot Twist become his ability. Nicholas Cage is a famous actor who can make a great show out of anything, and will ham it up every chance he gets.

Ellen Ripley- Chemical Trap and Lucky Star become her ability. Ripley has gone face-to-face with the greatest dangers imaginable, and has taught herself how to improvise hindrances to the enemy and keep herself calm.

Why does everyone always assume stuff like this? Very pessimistic assumption. I've always been all for Survivors being different. The fact they're all just skins still boggles my mind as its an extremely lame part of the experience that could pull in more people if it was expanded upon.

Let's assume BHVR are smart enough to not let that heppen and make all Survivor abilities equally interesting abilities that everyone likes. :) I honestly think they should do what the board game did. Give each Survivor one of their own perks as a 'signature perk' that only that Survivor has. This would actually balance many things out tbh. Then you couldn't have 4 people running the same perk as often.

I think it'd go over a lot better in DBD since many players already know most of the teachable Survivor perks. Let's say we have a Dwight on our team. He's the only character that can have the Leader perk/ability. This would help new players learn that when Dwight is with us we'll always get the Leader buff. I think they're missing a huge opportunity with this. By having them all just be skins, none of them really stand out. Players just kind of go toward a Survivor they connect with visually or perk wise, which I don't think should be the case.

Its just a free for all. Anyone can have anything..which makes it so confusing tbh..especially as Killer..

As far as I know, the devs wanted to do this in 2016 and quickly abandoned the idea. imagine that the killers also play with their unique perks. it would be terrible

I don't even have to bother reading it. Just no...

We don't need survivor character meta. It's bad enough they have different height and sound volume.

Well, they were supposed to fix sound volume between survivors, but never did... Feels bad to be Jeff main after Iron Will nerf

Killers already dodge because of prestige, imagine seeing 4 Megs in the same room

Also, killer will know what abilities players have and have a huge adventage for that

we already have living example which is Identity V where every survivor is unique, and thaths what happens there. In ranked at least.

But i love the idea of survivor having to use 1 of his signature perks in his build, in fact thats what i always do, so playing every survivor feels bit unique, and lets you to explore new perks as well(yeah there are adept, but thats bit different). Maybe even give small buffs if perk youre wearing is signature.

Since we dont have ranked mode, i doubt people will go super sweaty like in IDV and play only survivors with meta signature perk, although amount of megs and dwights will definitely increase, even when its already most popular survs.

If it was 4 survivors vs 4 killers, it would make sense for survivors to have their own unique abilities. The problem is the game isn't that.

Survivors need to be equal in strength since the game needs to be balanced around 4 survivors facing a single killer.

    No, just no.

One of them would inevitably be the best and you'd see them constantly in like 30% of your games.

So no, thank you. Survivors don't need to be special, what is special about them is that there are 4 of you and 16 perks in total the Killer has to watch out for as is.

Adding innate skills to that 16 long list is overkill.

Passion is great, was fun to read, and think about, but you do inevitably create a meta around specific characters being the top picks for survivor with a suggestion like this.

In an ideal world, all effects would be equally as valuable as each other. Vittorio's Potential Energy and Fogwise would be comparable in value to Meg's Sprint Burst and Adrenaline. Sadly that will never be the case.

You sacrifice the freedom to play whomever you like with any build you like, for characters to be more true to their concept... but distinctly better or worse than each other, and that would be a hefty loss.

It recreates the probmem TCM currently have. Forcing survivors/victims to play a certain charecter to get advantage. It limits creativity very bad.

I would love for a legion to be chasing Tapp or any of the RE characters and they just turn around with a gun. Had an idea a while ago, where survivors could equip a pistol that could be used to stun Nemesis, but has extremely limited ammo.

its very hard to do a power without it being overpowered and then everyone picks that one character.

I think Survivors should have powers but it needs to be really small power so it does not impact too much.

Nah, Survivors shouldn't have passive abilities. What if, instead, we gave them things that allow them to do particular tasks better? We can throw em in the bloodweb, give them add-ons to boost their power, that way every Survivor can be helpful in the way they like most. Maybe we have one for healing, one for doing gens, one for combatting the Killer.

How do you guys feel about the concept of taking hooks away from Killers in a last ditch save?
