Hidden Prestige: One Step Forward, Two Steps Back
I know that there's already plenty of posts about this but I want this topic to get the most possible visibility.
Quite simply, I hate this change.
I've been selected as part of the "test group" that doesn't have access to seeing other players Prestige ranks, and here are my thoughts after not seeing these icons the past 3 days of playing:
- I have not noticed any change in my match quality.
- I have not seen more people lobby dodging.
- I have not experienced any more or less toxicity than usual.
The only thing that I have noticed is that there's no more icons next to players names and a deepseated sadness because I now feel no motivation at all to level my characters past Prestige 9.
The entire point of having 100 Prestige tiers was to show your dedication/love to a specific character, and to also show it off to others- most notably the other survivors in your lobby, not the killer.
This change completely killed that feeling of accomplishment. WHY can other survivors NOT SEE my Prestige rank? Why can this not be something ONLY DISABLED for killers?
Prestige ranks are cosmetic- no more and no less than a Store cosmetic. They show off your love for a character, either by time (Prestige) or money (Store cosmetics). When you remove the cosmetic appeal of a Prestige rank, you remove the entire incentive to do so PAST level 9.
I completely understand why KILLERS shouldn't be able to see survivior Prestige in the lobby, but my teammates? I find that to be overkill. The issue with Prestige was tunneling/BM towards the survivor by the killer, not your fellow teammates.
Please BHVR, allow survivors to see this but disable this for killer. Allow survivors to feel that sense of accomplishment and show off to their peers the amount of time and dedication they put into their favorite characters.

I could be wrong, but I think the reason you haven't noticed any difference is because you're getting into matches with people who haven't been lucky enough to receive the hidden prestige update, therefore they're still seeing everyone's prestiges and dodging/being toxic etc. accordingly. I don't think we'll truly know for sure what impact it will have until the prestiges are hidden for everyone.

As a genuine question, would it still being show off in the post match screen not be enough here? That's still showing it off, and doesn't contribute to any of the lobby-dodging nonsense that it being shown in the lobby leads to.

You can still see the prestiges in the match end screen, calm tf down.
