atm who do you think the game favors?

simple question. I know this post is gonna breed so much us vs them fights in the replies but please keep it to a minimum.

for me I'd say its survivor sided atm mainly because of mft and ftp+buckle up, along with the general lack of regression making playing nice a lot less viable.

    It's who bring strongest stuff.. if you play nice it's survivor sided, if you try hard with best builds/add-ons you can win most games

    I play both and for me it feels kinda fair. (but not playing high mmr i have to admit).More fair than a few years ago at least.

    But I am worried about what happens as soon as AFC takes place. If it really is the case that Killers can be looped above the hook on two-floored maps or shack, so survs get "free" escape, then I will consider it clearly survivor sided. It would annoy me on my killer games. Like.. half the map is getting kind of a save space for Survivors or something like that?? Guess I will just have to wait and see, hope it will turn out being a good feature..

    But at the current state, for me as a casual player, I see no role in big advantage. Only times when thought's like "unfair!" come to my mind are the so called "bully squads" but these are not the benchmark for the game overall I guess.

    yes that is trueI have seen clips of it happening. A killer standing above the hook will progress it as if they were actually face camping. This is especially ludicrous on the game, where the map is generally segmented and organized into neat squares. A decent pallet loop could easily spawn directly above a hook.

    If people get an "objectively fair match" (and MMR is just one aspect of that - just as important, or probably even more important, are the loadouts people bring) it's actually kinda balanced. The only issue is: matches are hardly ever "objectively fair".

    There are certain loadout options on both sides that immediately reduce the pool of viable loadouts for the other side to a tiny fraction of possible loadouts and very rarely the other side happens to bring stuff exclusively from that pool of loadouts.

    Usually, matches are a mismatch in one way or the other. In whose favor the mismatch is, is a coinflip.

    On the side of an experienced nurse with 3 blinks with perks on auras (especially nowhere to hide) and a lethal pursuer, on midwich. More than one survivor can't beat this #########.

    And so yes, in the case of most killers, the scales greatly outweigh the survivors, but only those who repair at least a little know how to play. 

    The survivors and their main ones are so paradoxical that they are both the strongest side in the game and the weakest side. They have the resources to win (sometimes even too much), but no one wants / knows how to use them and no one besides the content creators teaches them (yes, in-game training sucks is a fact).

  • Killer. Only way it favors survivor if all 4 are giving it 100%. All it takes is one weak link.

    Very much depends on killer, map, swf/soloQ, RNG of loops, skill level, etc.

    But considering strongest stuff on both sides (both sides 10k hrs each, 4xSWF with meta loadout vs meta blight with meta builds), it's slightly killer sided - but not super much.

    Overall it really depends.

    I don't care much for feelings about how the game is, I care about what the stats are instead when it comes to balance questions.

    But its probably within 45 to 55% anyway.

    Smart players.

    The current playstyle for survivors is just so dumb I can't believe how easy it makes the game. Every survivor just plans to trade on the hook, every hook. I could so easily turn every one of them into two downs, (STBFL+RB), but why bother? The guy that just got unhooked will come straight back to turn my second into a third. I win about half my wins just doing that. By the time the first hook and unhooking hooks are done, half the team's on death hook or at least one is dead. They'll still rush the hook, so it's fine.

    Camping is a problem? My presence doesn't seem to concern survivors. Does what I'm doing during the 1-5 seconds someone is on hook really matter at all? Teleporting is really the only way a killer can get away from the hook.

    The game is starting to feel like Tucker & Dale vs Evil. Doozy of a match, Entity, these college survivors just keep running up and killing themselves all over my property.

    Actually, I'd love Tucker and Dale skins.

    This question is asked all the time, and the answer is always the same.

    At lower skill levels, it's heavily killer sided.

    At higher skill levels, it's more survivor sided. Unless you play Nurse/Blight.

    Somewhere in the middle, is where it's theoretically balanced, but finding that ideal combination of factors in a single game is almost impossible.


    This is ultimately due to the asymmetrical nature of the game. Killer is the power role, Survivor is the teamwork role. The skill expression of Survivor presents itself in the form of cooperation, higher skilled survivors are better team players and their skill-curve is steeper as it's multiplied four-fold. (four good survivors are exponentially better than four bad survivors, particularly if the good survivors are using voice comms)

    Thus higher skilled survivors beat out killers, whose skill curve is much shallower as they only have themselves to rely on and improve as. A good killer isn't as 'better' than a poor killer is, comparatively to survivors, because their skill curve isn't as pronounced.

    This is an immutable truth, and cannot change no matter how much balance is tweaked. Survivors will always dominate the top end and killers will always dominate the bottom end, precisely so there can be balance in the middle. Nurse and Blight exist to give killers a fighting chance at the top, and to an extent, so do camping, tunnelling and stacking gen regression perks.

    Balance changes simply shift this whole dynamic one way or the other, but you still have the same two extremes.

    Whichever side got the better players. The MMR system is imperfect to say the least and pairing very experienced members of one side with inexperienced members of the other happens very often, in my experience.

    In a balanced game it depends on the MMR, but I broadly agree with the vibes I've seen others give - Killer-sided at the low end of skill, survivor-sided at the high end of skill, with the middle being fairly balanced and Blight & Nurse being able to tip the scales far further towards killer victory than anyone else ever could.

    Given how easy and powerful is camping and reluctance to change it in a meaningful way i.e. basekit monstrous shrine ( with very low % on high mobility and teleporting killers and high% on low mobility) + 90 sec per hook stage , I would say devs are leaning towards killer comfort.

    With a few exceptions, the survival is basically advantageous.

    The exceptions are as follows.


    The killer is a nurse, and one of the most skilled.

    If the Survivor is a novice who becomes obsessed with the chase, tells the Killer the location of other injured Survivors, or prevents him from repairing the generator, and then goes down on the other side.

    Yes, hits from difficult plays not counting all over the place while the gens get blasted through in minutes is so cozy.

    I consider it same as it always been.

    1) SWF, Blight, Nurse

    2) mixed group survivor, most killers

    3) soloQ, Trapper, Myers etc


    This changes with add-ons, perks, items, offerings.

    DBD was always about side that brings more resources, is more likely to win. It's not as nuclear as it used to be with Moris, keys etc, but still...

    It favors killers if the killer plays to win. By playing to win I mean strong perks and heavy camping/tunneling. That's why killer winstreaks are so absurd compared to survivor winstreaks. If these demon SWFs were as frequent as some people say then someone would have ended Momo's 1500 game Blight winstreak or Alf's 1000 game Nurse winstreak. CMWinter even managed to get a 166 game winstreak as PIG. One of the worst killers in the game. Meanwhile the highest SWF winstreak of the MMR era is only around 200 and that team included literal comp players who were using clock maps, call outs, etc. The sweat was far beyond what any other four man SWF would ever use in a normal game. Bottom line is Nurse and Blight are far more broken than anything your typical survivors have. My kill rate from when I bothered counting was 80%. My escape rate is 40% in solo queue.

    It depends, majority of the time it can favor either side.

    For killer, matches can go either way when versing survivors. You can verse Solos who tend to struggle a ton, or SWFS who have the upper hand most of the time. Big difference in comparison.

    For survivor, if your solo, you have no comms, so its harder to communicate and tell what perks the killer has, the killer could be running the most vile perks and add-ons and your teammates just DC and your left to die or go for hatch. If your playing in a SWF, you have comms, you can give information to your friends on basically everything that's going on, and you can plan things much easier, like going for saves, etc.

    If the survivors are Great: Survivors Only

    If the survivors are good: Nurse, Blight, (debatably) Spirit, otherwise survivors.

    If the survivors are decent: A tier killers and above, otherwise survivors.

    If survivors are bad: All Killers.


    In most cases at least.

    Imo the game is overall survivor sided when most of the killers in the game struggle if the survivors actually know how to play well.

    The actual number of players who are actually at that threshold is another discussion.

    But someone who considers "killer" as just the high tiers would probably have a different answer.

    Survivor win streaks can be equally amazing. Issue is it's harder to do, because you need 4 players on board and it's way more boring. It's not really fun to have longer queue than actual game duration...
