This game should steer towards horror orientation
It should be less of a competitive scene. Remove SBMM. Focus and return horror elements. There should be no excuse for saying "Horror eventually wears off". Removing horror in this game ruins the vibe.

Horror has never been removed though?
SBMM is aimed to make the game more fun. It's not fun playing against a killer that has no clue what they're doing and it's not fun killing survivors at 4 gens all the time.
It does have a competitive scene, but every game does and you can ignore it in this one. MMR is not visible and grades don't really mean anything so there isn't really any stakes to losing.

Where is the connection between Horror and SBMM?

Horror always wears off eventually.

They haven't removed anything. If it feels like they have it's because you've become desensitised to it. Hence, it "eventually wears off."

Give me the name of a horror multi-player game that does not loose his horror after a few hundred hours? The more you know the less you are scared of the unknown, I don't think it is possible to not wear off with time.
Also as people mentioned before they did not remove horror, it just disappeared as people got better aat the game and spend more time playing, that's just how it is.

I dont mind killing survivors at 4 gens all the time.

Dbd is still a scary game for new players and for certain things people don't face often and aren't prepared for. Horror has never been removed from dbd but you can't just suddenly put it back in easily since people are just too used to it. The shock value from horror is gone after ~20 hours so currently its just "now what". Sure you could change everything with hundreds of hours of work to make it horror again but in 20 hours its gonna be gone again.

Well.. the community really wants an action game more over a horror game.
and to some degree its understandable - horror would probably mean more hiding, avoiding the killer and therefore less killer-survivor interactions. That would be boring for many obviously and the game design itself makes this problematic as it would promote holding the game hostage from the survivor side which is a reportable/bannable offense.
i think there is some balance to be made though, the aesthetics for example definitely changed to be more clear, less dark areas, less foggy environment. Sure its again the same problem: hiding without interaction but also probably optimization issues for last gen consoles, also people using filters, gamma, to gain an advantage over ‚vanilla‘ players.. still I think leaning more into horror aesthetics would be great.
also add new horror tropes into the general gameplay loop. I am talking about things like the crows (that are highly associated to the horror genre) revealing your location. I have made suggestions before and still have couple of ideas but well… at this point I should just create my own asymm horror game 🤪 (if only I was actually skilled enough for art/sound design and had the resources to do so..)

They could make a second game mode with darker lighting and what not, but playing against survivors that hide all game long is the most boring thing ever, so I don't think people would really want to play that, unless they get tracking perks like UW or Nowhere to hide, but otherwise I don't think so.

"Horror wears off eventually" isn't posited as an excuse for actively removing horror, it's presented as the reason you feel the horror has been removed to begin with. The devs certainly haven't been removing any, unless you count the maps being so dark you can't see as a horror element- but the game's certainly gotten less scary as you've played it, because horror wears off eventually.
The game's horror vibe hasn't gone anywhere. In fact, newer killers and even newer maps have maintained the horror vibe admirably. They just aren't actively scary to people who've played the game for a while... because they have played the game for a while.

Nah, bro. The Pig scares me even after 3.5 years 😳

The fear a player will DC, leaving me with a BOT is scary and I don't see that wearing off anytime soon 😕

Horror does wear off and you can't really change that. Imagine watching the same horror movie 100x. Even if you were genuinely scared the first time, you won't be scared anymore after watching it that many times. Dbd is the same.

It's good to know that horror is important to you, and we have no plans to remove those elements from the game. Horror is still a core part of Dead by Daylight's design, but as with any horror, the scares will become less effective over time as you get more accustomed to them.
MMR's job is only to give you closer matches, not make the game more or less scary or tailor to more competitive minded players. It's a big part of the reason why we don't show you your rating: It doesn't matter, it's not something you should stress over, it's just there to find you a roughly even match.

There is a difference between horror and getting jump scared...

Yes, but I'm scared throughout the entire match once I know she is the killer. Same with Ghostface but significantly more with The Pig.

On the note of:
It doesn't matter, it's not something you should stress over, it's just there to find you a roughly even match.
Do you feel the game is adequately designed for players to feel like "winning" does not matter, not a thing to stress over?
Because I think you guys designed the game to focus on winning and that makes the mindset you advocate regarding MMR incredibly hard to maintain. Personally I would say it takes so much that you have to ignore the game design in order to keep your MMR low, you have to rip yourself out of the experience of just gaming to remember that.
I don't know what you could do to fix this mechanically, but if you want to do something about this issue maybe consider adding some humanitarian good gamer feel good recommendations to the loading screen.
example:
" While you can absolutely exert yourself in a match to gain advantage, the game does not require you to strain yourself. We recommend you approach the gameplay calmly and collected, and don't forget to have fun. "
I hope you understand my point.

Why though? xD She is one of the weakest killers in the game, so probably not because it is going to be a challenge?
