Why I'm dissatisfied with the MMR change
Disclaimer: I'm discussing my own personal experience and how it affects my personal playstyles so it may or may not be relevant to anyone else.
I would summarize myself as having two playstyles, Killers I Kill with and Killers I Meme with. I separated the two groups and only killed with certain Killers and only memed with others so that my MMR didn't go crazy.
For the Killers I Kill with I would self-impose that, given no BM, there would be no tunneling, no camping and no survivor intentionally dies before the fifth hook at the minimum. This would generally give me 10 to 12 hook games for the games I won.
However, with the increased difficulty from the soft cap being raised my games have become a lot more difficult and this makes it much harder to enjoy the game and stick to my playstyle. With the increased intensity of the games I have to be on top of my game at all times or I'll be routed. That's not fun and was originally one of the reasons why the softcap was lowered to begin with when MMR was introduced.
It also makes me feel as if the game mechanics want me to tunnel. To be clear, I have no interest in tunneling but, if I want to have a more relaxing game, it feels like my choices are just play survivor only, start tunneling or just play something else (which, honestly, is just what I did over the last week. I'll probably start back up with Chucky).
In addition, my queue times are noticeably longer so I'm now waiting longer for a less satisfying game.
My other playstyle, the Killers I meme with, can be summarized as things such as jumpscare Mikey or Backpack! Backpack! where I load up Starstruck, Agitation, and Iron Grasp and don't hook but rather chase survivors with someone wiggling off on my shoulder. In these cases, the survivors are guaranteed to get out as long as they unhook each other.
With these games, I'm now being placed with survivors that I practically need to babysit to keep alive. They're really, really new. I don't have any interest in killing them to get to a higher MMR as I would feel like I'm kicking puppies if I did so these games are no longer as enjoyable either.
I understand the change was probably done in order to be more competitive but I don't play DbD to be competitive; I play DbD to have fun. For me, playing for 10 to 12 hooks and not having to concentrate like a mad fiend is fun. That was the fun level of difficulty for me. Memeing around and getting laughs is fun. Being ultra competitive is not fun and it was complaints about the intense nature of games that got the soft cap lowered in the first place to begin with in the days when Dowsey was still playing and had to wait 45 minutes for a match.
I know I'm just one player and you (BHVR) have to consider the game as a whole but, for my vote, the continual increased competitiveness is not fun. I don't want to tunnel to relieve pressure on myself, I don't want to have to always be on the top of my game to not get routed, and I want to play the Killers I like the most; not the Killers I barely play since the matchmaking is taking the fun out of the Killers I play the most. That's not what I paid for.
Anyway, I hope you find my input helpful and thanks for reading it.

Killers apparently each have a separate MMR. The ones you meme with would be in low MMR, hence why you're getting baby survivors, and the ones you kill with would be at least in mid MMR at this point I would assume. At the very least you're efficient enough on those killers that matchmaking seems to think you need a challenge.
Personally, I'd cop the losses and just let yourself settle in a bracket that you're more comfortable in (the devs have said in the past that your strategy should win at least half the time, or else matchmaking isn't working. IMO it hasn't been working but the recent changes might be a step the devs are taking to get it working correctly, so I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt). But it really comes down to what you want out of the game. Best of luck.

just play the game to have fun not to win

For the killers you kill with: as long as you keep playing like you usually do and lose (instead of starting to sweat to keep up) your MMR will drop until you're back under the soft-cap. In the mean time it'll be pretty painful but I don't there's a way around this (unless you just afk but that's not fun either).
For the killers you meme with: Unfortunately I don't think there's any way around this issue either other than starting killing the newbies. I suggest you keep memeing but don't spare all of them and you should go up in MMR pretty quickly.

I'm not playing to win; I'm playing to have fun and I'm not. If I were just playing to win I would have been tunneling and camping from the get go instead of striving for hooks. That's my complaint; it's not fun.

I do agree that the only foreseeable way out of this is to just take the losses. However, what happens if I don't fall below the soft cap or rise above it again? Then the same issue recurs.
Part of the reason why I'm mentioning this is because one of the common themes in the forums is being tunneled is not fun, Killers feel like they have to tunnel because of the pressure, etc. Tightening up MMR restrictions, especially while most gen regression perks are garbage, puts more pressure on players and encourages tunneling or, if you don't want to tunnel, either slowly losing interest in the game or just dropping it completely.
Neither of those are conducive to DbD's health and I'm hoping the devs aren't focusing on competitiveness as a goal instead of a means to reach fun as a goal.
It's kind of frustrating. Thanks for listening.

I'm going to try but I don't find sweating to be fun. Hopefully it'll improve.

Exactly. Killers that play to win will get survivors who play to win. With this new MMR how hard both sides try/sweat to get wins should match up a lot more often. It is also good that it keeps newer survivors who will struggle the most away from more experienced killers. I see the MMR changes as a great thing for dbd and have personally noticed my matches are more close and fun now when I play both sides.
My advice for OP is to just let the MMR readjust itself a bit. If you play for 12 hooks and fun without sweating for the 4k things will be fine. However if you keep upping your game to ensure you get a 3-4k its only natural the game will keep putting you against better survivors, as consistently winning should. If you want to play chill and have more chill games then don't sweat so hard in the end game to ensure you get a 3-4k by slugging, tunneling, etc. You lose a game with a 0-2k occasionally by continuing to play chill without pulling out all the stops and the MMR will do the work.
