My Game Mode Opinions...
In the latest Player Satisfaction survey, there were several games modes listed and instructions to select which ones would be "most interesting" or "least interesting." I wanted to go a bit further and give a little more detailed opinions on these...
Tag
- A random Survivor is picked to be a Killer.
- Down a player to swap roles.
- Survive for five minutes and escape.
Moderately interesting, I guess. I don't really have any strong feelings for or against it...that probably means I wouldn't play it, lol.
Deceivers
- Survivors work together to complete tasks before one or more "Deceivers" can kill everyone without being discovered.
- Played in rounds with voting between each round.
In other words, Among Us gameplay with DBD Survivors, to which I say no thank you.
Hide & Seek
- No generators.
- No hooks, only Mori on downs.
- Stay alive for 5 minutes to escape through the exit gates.
- Auras will be revealed every couple of seconds.
I guess this was meant to be a quick game mode? I'd be concerned about spending more time waiting for a match than playing one, since having one or more game modes will cause longer queue times across the board.
I do like the idea of more chase-oriented matches in general, so this mode would be interesting to me. Although a bigger concern of mine would be the aura revealed "every couple of seconds." I hope they didn't mean that literally, as that would be every two or three seconds. There won't be much hiding going on there. However, if auras were revealed every 30 seconds, as in the Object of Obsession perk, that would be much more fair for both survivor and killer.
Luck of the Draw
- Start the game with randomized perks and items.
Well, we've already had experience with this one, and it was well-received. I might go for it if I'm bored enough, and pray that I don't get screwed over with a No Mither/For the People combo...
Disgustingly Scary
- Fog is thicker and shrouded in darkness.
That'd be interesting. I hope there'd be a way to see generators or hooks, so we could at least be moving in the right direction...
Giant
- Sizes are altered! Killers are turned into giant while Survivors become tiny.
This might be interesting to try? I don't see myself enjoying it in the long term, though.
5v5
- Two teams of four Survivors and one Killer face off to control generators.
- Capture the generators by moving generator progress towards your teams's side in tug of war gameplay.
I think this is my number one most interesting mode. I like the idea of Survivors and Killers teaming up and facing each other. If I had to pick one mode to bring into the game, it would be this one.
VIP
- When the obsession is killed, everyone dies.
- Only the obsession can open the exit gates for everyone.
Oh boy, a game mode where the Killer's sole objective is to hardcore tunnel a specific player out of the game. We would need more details and/or some significant changes to make this game mode any fun. For extra details, my questions would be: Would the VIP have any tools to defend themselves, other than what we already have in the game? Would the teammates have tools to try to defend the VIP? Would they still have to repair generators, or would they focus all their efforts to defend the VIP? If the teammates had the sole objective to defend the VIP, then maybe, just maybe, this game mode might be a little fun? But as it is described here, I've voted this mode as the "least interesting" on every page it appeared on in the survey.
Bumrush
- More generators spawn on the map.
- Everyone moves at double speed.
- Survivors have 3 lives, from which they revive after a 20-second death timer.
This might be a fun "quick" mode as well. I imagine the Survivors and Killers running around super fast while the Benny Hill theme plays.
Zombie Tag
- A random Survivor is picked to be the Killer.
- Down a player to swap roles.
- Once a survivor turns into a killer, they don't turn back.
- Keep playing until there's only one survivor left.
This one doesn't really appeal to me personally. I don't have much to say on it…
Swapped Perspective
- Killers play in 3rd person while Survivors play in 1st person.
Now this would definitely add a new level of terror for Survivors. I might even be tempted to play more Killer with this mode.
2v8 Party
- 2 Killers against 8 Survivors
- Hooks are removed, but Cages of Atonement prevail.
This would be pure chaos, I think. I'd label this as my second favorite of the listed game modes, at least at first impression. I don't know how much I'd enjoy it in the long run.
TLDR: My two favorites would be 5v5 and 2v8 Party, while my least favorites would be VIP and Among Us Deceivers.

I'm psyched for bumrush because of the Jacket (Hotline Miami) concept. When in chase, survivors within 20 metres and the killer move fast. There was also a thing about him being in third person because of the top down nature of HM.
